Actress Mischa Barton may look like she's cavalier about letting her hair dry she sips coffee and smokes a fag in New York City, but the reality of this photo is that she's actually on set waiting to into hair and makeup for her new TV show The Beautiful Life. I know a lot of ladies who don't blow dry their hair. Some have curly q's and avoid dryers as they cause frizz, whilst others are simply low maintenance and/or don't want to cause heat damage to their precious locks. I on the other hand can't afford to let my hair dry naturally as it just winds up looking messy and unkempt. How about you - do you ever just let your hair dry on its own?

A smiling Mischa Barton stepped out last night in New York City in a sexy outfit for a music party at the Cooper Square Hotel. Not only was she dressed in a dark ensemble, but her hair is a richer colour brown than we've ever seen her don. Recently, she's veered from her typical blonde hair to varying shades of brunette. Out of these four colours in the past four months which do you think looks the most flattering on Mischa?

Over the weekend Mischa Barton and Pixie Geldof hung out with some pals in a Camden park. The O.C. veteran, who I'm so excited to see back on the small screen in her new sitcom A Beautiful Life (out this Autumn in the States) has recently dyed her blonde hair a rich shade of chestnut brown. I happen to like her darker, as I think it brings out her blue eyes, but it's hard to picture her without her signature (extended) blonde hair that also works really well. Which hair colour do you like the most on Mischa?

Love It or Hate It? Mischa Barton's Milan Look

Actress and front row fashionista Mischa Barton was looking glowing at the Vanity Fair party at Milan Fashion Week. She went for a natural makeup look, with a rose coloured lip gloss, black lined eyes and peachy blush. Her skin always looks flawless but I thought she looked slightly tired in this picture. It could be the social whirl of Fashion Week, but I also think she suits fresher shades and pink near the eyes is always dangerous.

Her bouffant hair had shades of Helena Bonham Carter but I actually liked that Mischa was experimenting with candyfloss hair styles and the messy, slightly matte texture that is so on-trend right now.

On Our Radar: Mischa Barton Creates Hair Accessories

Banking on her hippie aesthetic, Mischa Barton has teamed up with designer Stacey Lapidus to create a hair accessories collection.

“Accessories are fun and they’re easy to wear. I’ve always loved headbands and have worn Stacey’s headbands for a while,” said Barton, shown left wearing one of Stacey's creations.

The Mischa Barton for Stacey Lapidus line will include groovy headbands made out of feathers, silk, crystals, and pearls. The full collection was shown in NY during Fashion Week festivities. The headbands range from $40 to $200 and will be sold at boutiques and specialty stores.

There's no denying that Mischa Barton would look good which ever way she dyed her hair. She suits both blonde and brunette. She has been talking about her changing hair colour to Cosmopolitan.co.uk. explaining why she is currently blonde, "It's just perfect and handy for the summer." However, don't get too used to it! "It's just temporary. I'm about to go off into other roles and I'll probably have to completely change it up again." Which hair colour do you prefer on Mischa?

How-To: Purposely Messy Updos

Y'know, usually when I think of rock stars, I think of long hair flying around stage. But at tonight's Fashion Rocks event, most of the revelers had their hair pulled up. Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Esposito and Mischa Barton were among the women who went with a messy, imperfect updo-which is exactly the kind of stylish but unfussy look you'd want to wear at a music-meets-fashion event.

There's something really sexy about this, too, because it isn't as buttoned-up as more formal updos can be. And best of all, it's easy to create a variation on this look in just a few minutes. For my tips, read more

After towel-drying hair, spray it with a lightweight styling spray such as Bumble and bumble Styling Lotion ($24). Work it through hair, then use a paddle brush to separate and dry hair with a blow dryer.

For Jennifer Esposito's and Mischa's look, work a small amount of mousse through the hair at the back of your head. This will create volume. Now, I haven't been able to see the back of Jennifer's head, but Mischa is rocking a fancier version of a look I like to call "I have to run to the grocery store and my hair is a mess." Basically, you're going to make a crazy ponytail. Gather most of your hair with one hand, leaving a few face-framing strands loose. Use a Goody clear, "ouchless" hair elastic to create a high ponytail in the back. From there, double up on your ponytail: Divide the ponytail into four sections, then bring one at a time back to the base of your ponytail, securing it with another elastic. I know this sounds complicated, but it really isn't. You know how sometimes you just "fold" a quick-and-messy ponytail into itself so it doesn't hang as long as it normally would? That's the general idea.

For Jennifer Lopez's look, pull your hair straight back (from the front), then gather the hair in the back of your head and pull it into a high ponytail. From there, try wrapping your ponytail around its base-think of the way a piglet's tail does a curlicue-and secure the hair with bobby pins. If your ponytail were a clock, you should be pinning your hair at each "15-minute mark," but you can do more. Don't worry if a few strands jump out! Messy is what you're going for.

Who Wears the Metallic Headband Best?

While we're still seeing everything from satiny flowers to wispy feathers (hello, Gossip Girl), metallic headbands are also ruling the fashion scene. Although we haven't seen Mischa Barton wearing her signature style as of late, she does carry a line of headbands in collaboration with accessories designer Stacey Lapidus. As for the hair accessories business, Mischa's not alone. Nicole Richie's House of Harlow 1960 collection includes metallic headpieces, which she told Pop were her favorite of the line. Then there's Paris Hilton. She has her perfume line to keep her busy, but that doesn't stop her sporting this Grecian-like adornment in sparkly silver tones.
