I just love it when people dress with a sense of humor. Fashion people can be so serious and really it's all about experimenting with clothes and having fun right? I adore this Winter Mod look put together by miz_ayet. She is today's Look Book Look of the Day. She has put together a fun mod look and you can tell it comes naturally and she's having fun with it.

The Look For Less: Abaeté Bowie Black and White Dress

For the longest time, I've wanted an Abaeté dress for when I'm in one of my mod moods. So why, you may ask, don't I have one sitting in my closet as we virtually speak? Because I've never wanted to pay almost $300 for one of these Abaeté Bowie Dresses, $264. Lucky for me, and my fellow mod lovers, there's a cheaper solution!

Once again, Forever 21 pulls through when I'm looking for a cheaper version of an overpriced dress. This Forever 21 Two Tone Dress, $23, is pretty dead on, except that the colors are inversed. It is classically mod and screams "Abaeté!" I think I'll run over to Forever 21 after work today!

Look of the Day: Not So Mellow Yellow

Wendybird33 did a spot-on job channeling Rachel Bilson at the T-Mobile Sidekick 3 party in her not so mellow yellow outfit! She even mastered the actress' red-carpet pose. I love the juxtaposition of the oh-so-current bright yellow of the cropped jacket and its 60s-inspired mod buttons. And the Peter Pan collar is just the icing on the cake - so playful-cum-girly.

Look of the Day: Mod Nautical

I've tried the nautical look, I've tried the mod look, but I've yet to do the mod nautical combo. Fashionave921 exemplifies this look to perfection with her thigh-high gray tights, blue jumper, and yellow cardi. I'm smitten with her saltwater sandals, and her white belt cinches the whole look together.

Supersize This: Mod Girl

Every time I pass by a Baby Gap, I either have to run by or surrender my credit card, as I know I almost always succumb to buying more than my tot needs. Case in point - this mod outfit. Does my lil girl need it? No. But, it's to die for! Oh fine. . . death may be an exaggeration, but the striped topper, gold buttoned shift dress and hot pink cable knit tights set off cute overload alarms.

Très Bizarre: Bagel Face Body Modification

Would you like a lox schmear with that bagel in your forehead?

Club kids in Japan are kicking extreme body modification up a notch by having lumps and bumps injected into their foreheads (and other body parts) via saline inflations or injections of saline into bags that are inserted under the skin. These self-inflicted deformations (like the bagel face saline implantations above) look insane, but they can be deflated by the next day. Want to find out about other body modifications? read more.

Extreme body modification isn't new. A search led me to an illuminating list of body modifications, illuminating because they range from the mainstream and mundane to the culturally specific to the OMG they do not do that! You might be surprised, for example, that getting your ears pierced or practicing body building is considered body modification, but technically, that's what those are.

Culturally specific practices of body mods include the old Chinese practice of foot binding or Kayan women with stacked neck rings. And then there are modern body modifications I'd rather not think too much about: scrotal implants, eyeball tattooing, tongue-splitting, and the baffling practice of trepanation, or drilling a hole into the skull.

We live in a world where people have plastic surgery to conform to certain ideals of beauty, so even though I would never have a saline inflation put in my forehead to look like I have a bagel in it (and I would probably gasp if I saw someone who did), I think there's something interesting about body modifications to debeautify or to look nonhuman (like the horns or wings you can get through plastic surgery to look like devils or angels).

Summer travel means you'll probably be heading out in one of three ways: planes, trains, or automobiles! Of course, these methods of transportation will get you where you need to go pretty quickly, but boy, can they be noisy.

Sure your iPod and earbuds may do the trick when you need to zone out on the plane, but in my experience, they aren't very good for drowning out the sounds of that baby screaming in the seat behind you. Therefore, before you pack, check out my top three picks for headphones (priced from low to high) that will cancel out the noise and keep you sane for that long trip when you read more.

First up is the most reasonably priced option from Sony, the MDR-XB300. I have used these cans myself at the office, and for the low, low price of $39 dollars, you can keep your tunes in, and other sounds out. Plus, they are super comfy on my ears and head and produce rich and deep sounds, which is more than I expected for the price.

Coming in at $85 are the Plane Quiet Platinum Headphones, which got great reviews from users and high rankings on field tests on PC Magazine. I like the mod look, and would definitely rock these on my next flight out of town. Best part is they fold flat so you shouldn't have a problem fitting them in your carry-on.

These top of the line Quiet Comfort 3 Headphones from Bose come with a top of the line price tag: 350 bucks! Reviewers concur that these babies (that should be silver plated, let's be honest) have amazing sound reduction, excellent sound quality, and are super comfy, even for long periods of time. And this should be the case since these cans are smart: they can electronically identify the surrounding noise level and then adjust accordingly. Plus, the Quiet Comfort 3s also fold flat for easy transport, but if you're riding with these, you probably don't have to worry about space . . . in first class.
