I love robot voices! They always sound weird and robotic and hilarious all at the same time. VozMe is a website that lets you create mp3s from text and already has me in geeky giggle fits. You just type something in the text box and hit "create mp3" and a robot will say what you just typed. You can even save your creations by clicking "download mp3" in the pop-up window, and then do a "save as" from your browser. The robotic voice even works in Spanish and you can add VozMe to your iGoogle page. My head is spinning with pranking opportunities and who my first victims will be - looks like the pizza guy is about to get an order from Hal!

JooZoo: Spoiled Sweet or Spoiled Rotten?

That's not a fancy dog tag, it's JooZoo, a new portable mp3 player for pets created by Korean company Innobitz. I'm not quite convinced it will relieve pet's stress and improve health as the company claims, and a doggy mp3 player seems like just another gadget for those with money to burn.

And, actually, quite a bit of cash burns at that – this 18-karat gold and diamond-encrusted device costs between $1,500 and $2,000. Am I overreacting here? I know you have an opinion, too, so share it with me!

Colossal MP3 Player Spotted at Walgreens!

Need a GIANT MP3 player? Spotted in the aisles of Walgreens, a $22 dollar MP3 player - the size of your head! Walgreens and their genius digital music player manufacturer have apparently glossed over the fact that iPod's success came largely from its convenient small size to bring you the Colossal 256MB mp3 player! Who cares if you don't own any bags big enough to fit it. It's COLOSSAL!

Who knows what they were thinking with this thing - it has just 256MB and requires 2 AA batteries, and the packaging gives away no sense of irony whatsoever.

Don't bother checking online for this bad boy - I could only find it in person at a downtown San Francisco store. I have half a mind to go back to that Walgreens and buy it, just so I can wear it around town as a social experiment. And it's pink, because, you know, a white one just isn't attention-catching enough!

Fergalicious Samsung K5 MP3 Player

Did you happen to catch the hot little player in the Fergalious video, or in the Wait A Minute video by the Pussycat Dolls? Released in September, the Samsung K5 MP3 Player comes in 1GB, 2GB, and 4GB storage capacities with all of the standard MP3 player features including MP3/WMA audio playback, JPEG photo viewing, FM radio, and an alarm clock. With a set of external speakers, you can use this player as a mini boombox. One downfall is it isn't Mac compatible, only Windows XP. Go to Amazon to purchase the Samsung K5 for $200.

The Mickey MP3 Player Finally Comes Stateside

I can't believe it was sooo long ago (like last year long ago) that the Mickey Mouse MP3 Player surfaced and that we've had to wait this long for it to finally come to the US. Before you think I'm crazy for saying something from Disney is geek chic, hear me out. This $70 player is super tiny, comes in four stylin' colors, and can hold up to one 1GB of music. I already have an iPod and an iPhone, but the cutesy wootesy Mickey ears are calling my name.

MP3 Sports Wristband Concept

There's no denying the new, teeny-tiny iPod shuffle is great for working out, but its lack of a screen and additional features doesn't always make it the ideal player for a serious athlete.

This concept for a wearable MP3 player by Nathan Davis serves to solve some of the slipping and skipping issues brought up with larger sports players.

It has a silicone band that lets you wear it on your arm or wrist, and it has an OLED display housed underneath a layer of polycarbonate. The screen slides up to reveal transport controls, and sound is transmitted to Bluetooth headphones. On the outer edge of the player is a jog wheel (with bumps), which is a tactile sensitive ring that can be rotated in either direction. This jog wheel controls the tracking of the song or the volume. The user can switch between volume and tracking mode via the button on the outside. There is no headphone jack. The player would use Bluetooth technology, eliminating the tangled mess of wires that conventional headphones have but adding to the sensation that you feel like you aren't even wearing a music player.

Lego MP3 Player: Love It or Leave It?

Is it just me, or are Lego-themed products popping up everywhere? I just spotted another: this colorful Lego MP3 player ($40) on ThinkGeek.

It has all the functionalities of an iPod, holds 2GB of music (about 500 songs), and features a digital display and USB connection. The coolest part: it's made from actual Lego pieces, so it'll snap together with any Legos you already have. Build-an-MP3-player, anyone?

Lesson Learned: Don't Run a Marathon With an iPod

I can't make it more than a few miles without some driving tunes in my ear, so running a 25 mile race sans iPod would be out of the question. Thankfully, I'm not looking to win a marathon anytime soon, but if I was, I'd know that running with an iPod is a dangerous move if I want to take home the gold. Take for example, the winner of the recent Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon winner, Jennifer Goebel, who was disqualified after being photographed during the race with an iPod in her pocket.

The racer says she only listened to her playlist during the latter part of the race (you know, when you hit the proverbial "wall"), and although the rules of the marathon state that the judges have a choice to ignore the "no iPod rule" of the traditional race, this group took her medal and sent her packing. It's true - most marathon races do have a ban on MP3 players during the race, but if the judges don't have to acknowledge it, why would they?

Protect Your Ears: iPod Safety

Who doesn't crank up the tunes occasionally for a rocking cardio session or to block annoying conversations on a morning commute? Unfortunately, dialing up the volume of your iPod can adversely affect your hearing.

We all know that prolonged listening to loud music can lead to hearing loss. Hearing experts say the maximum safe level for listening with ear buds or headphones is 85 decibels, but most people push the volume past competing ambient noise, which for NYC and DC is 80 decibels. This five-decibel window doesn't allow for much play when it comes to hearing your tunes. The European Union recommends a 100-decibel limit to MP3 players sold within its jurisdiction, with the purpose of decreasing associated hearing loss. But the US has no volume cap for music players, and recent tests found that many MP3 players crank all the way to 115 and 125 decibels. Hearing specialists recommend not only decreasing the volume but also the amount of time we all listen to our mighty iPods. Listening to one at maximum volume for only five minutes can begin deteriorating the delicate hair cells that line the inner ear, which decode sound waves into signals the brain interprets as sound.

I just set the volume lock on my iPod to about 80 percent of maximum volume, and I urge you to do the same with your MP3 player, whatever the brand. Easy listening might just mean hearing forever.

Love It or Leave It? Clip-On MP3 Player

If you like the way the 2G iPod Shuffle can easily clip onto your bag or sleeve for easy access, here's a new MP3 player that may give the shuffle a run for its money. Coby's MP-c852 MP3 Player looks like a giant clothes peg turned music player. Featured on Chip Chick, this 1GB clip-on MP3 player comes in five colors including blue, red, pink, silver and black and can play WMA and MP3 files, just don't try syncing it to your iTunes playlists.
