NARS's 15X15 soiree, hosted by Marc Jacobs and Daphne Guinness, brought out a bevy of beautiful models to NYC. While Daphne went galactic, the PYTs opted for something sexier. Julie Henderson looked sweet in a strapless pink print frock; Selita wowed in purple Balmain; Anja emoted sultry pirate power; Heather opted for Balmain's spiky studs; and Lisa Marie Smith took the avant-garde route. Nars Celebrates 15 Years With 15 Stars and a Book

When couples celebrate their 15-year anniversary, the traditional gift they might give their mate is crystal. But when François Nars celebrates his company's 15th anniversary, he makes a book, with all proceeds going straight to charities. And as you might expect, it's not your ordinary coffee-table publication. To commemorate the company's quindecennial anniversary, Nars plans to release 15x15 ($80) in mid-November, with only 1,500 copies hitting the presses.

The book, which will be available for 30 days at 15x15project.com, will feature photos of 15 celebrities, from Marc Jacobs to Amber Valletta to Naomi Campbell. "Basically, I wanted people who reflected my taste, friends, and people I admired for their look and talent," Nars told WWD. Inside the book, you'll find two inspirations behind each photo, along with a featured makeup product. Nars promises, "You don’t get bored." And after looking through some of the photos below, I couldn't agree more.

It's a deep, sophisticated purple with subtle gold flecks that a cool girl like Kim Gordon might wear if she were invited to a fancy-pants brunch. Season after season I create beauty-related gift guides because I personally love gifting beauty products to my family and close friends. I realize that perfumes, makeup, nail polish, skincare and haircare items are quite personal purchases, especially when it comes to colours and scents. However, there are a handful of cult items that have been best sellers for so long, it's hard to ignore their universal appeal. Goodies like Chanel N°5 , Nars blusher in Orgasm or Revlon Red nail varnish don't make the most popular lists for years on end for nothing. So tell me, when it's time to indulge someone special, do you buy beauty products as presents?

Love It or Hate It: A Rainbow of Colors at Derek Lam

With the rainbow of colors featured at Derek Lam for his showing at 2010 New York Fashion Week, I think we all sensed a bit of an '80s vibe. Tom Pecheux for NARS Cosmetics created this vivid look. "I wanted to dot the lips red with my fingers rather than draw a straight line of color," he said. "Instead, I chose to do that with the eyes. I love when the multiple colors are drawn straight across and outward for a very tribal effect . . . It was Coney Island chic," he added. Of course, runway looks are meant to look a bit extreme, but could you see yourself wearing a more toned-down, less heavy-handed version? I have to confess; I most certainly can.

All Aboard! The Nars 2009 Autumn Colour Collection Is Here

Not only does this year mark the 15th anniversary for Nars Cosmetics, but last Monday was the highly anticipated launch of the brand new six-item Autumn 2009 Colour Collection. The inspiration behind the goodies came from none other than the young and precocious icon, Lolita. François Nars was "looking for a model who could represent the modern, independent woman, but who also had a girlish, innocence about her."

It's funny, because I thought the ad campaign doll looking model was Lily Donaldson, but it's actually a Canadian beauty named Heather Marks whose career began in 2003 with Givenchy. The photographs were taken in New York City by François Nars himself, and Heather is wearing the products from the '09 line whose names incidentally were influenced by Nars' pursuits and interests, yet they don't necessarily have any direct correlation to Lolita.

My favourite product is a nail varnish called Tokaido Express (£12.50). From a distance it looks black, but up close it's a purple shade with gold flecks that look rich, exciting and ridiculously chic. Wearing this polish is akin to wearing a fabulous cuff or statement piece.

Fast Ride Lipstick: (£17) is an edgy, dark mulberry (and totally intimidating lipstick) that falls somewhere between an intense stain, and a gothy purple. What I love is its that the sheen keeps it looking fashion forward and seductive.
Mekong Single Eyeshadow: (£15) is a must for those with green or hazel eyes. The black-brown shadow contains rose gold flecks that make green eyes pop!
Silk Road Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is a new pair of powder shadows that were influenced from traditional damask fabrics. One side houses a frosty pink whilst the other side is a rosey gold with golden shimmer.
Brumes Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is another new powder shadow duo that has a matte charcoal shade one side (great as a liner or for the ultimate smoky eye) and the other side is a sparkly sky blue hue.
Indian Summer Duo Eyeshadow: (£23) is the most fashion forward of the eyeshadow pairs. Inside there's a frosted khaki shade beside a bold, matte, mustardy colour.
Tokaido Express Nail Polish: (£12.50) is black-plum varnish enhanced with finely milled gold sparkles and is named after Japan’s famed high-speed railway. From afar you'd think it's black, if you look a little bit closer, it's far more interesting!

How To: Get January Jones's Cocktail Chic Makeup Look

Last night at the TCA AMC cocktail reception in California, actress January Jones arrived in a cutesy black-bow frock with her hair styled in a chic coif and perfectly flawless makeup. January always looks amazing, but I like how her makeup isn't too overdone here. With some filler on her brows, a dewy base, a touch of black liner, mascara and finally a tomato red lipstick, this siren makes getting red carpet ready look as easy as pie!

Begin with a clean, well hydrated face and then apply a primer followed by a tinted moisturiser. Dab concealer under the eyes and around the nose and mouth. Blend with your ring finger and dust a loose mineral powder all over to set the look. Then, buff it out with a fluffy, dry brush so it doesn't appear to heavy.

EYES: Since eyes and lips are the centrepiece for this look, you'll want to keep the shadow simple so that you can focus on the liner and your lashes. Dust a cream powder shadow all over the lid and then use a taupey brown in the crease for definition. Use a similar brown or dark blonde colour to fill in your browns and then use a brush to ensure they are blended. Next, curl your lashes and apply one coat of black mascara. Then, using a liquid or felt-tip liner, begin to line your upper lashes at the base extending and thickening the line past the outer corners of your eyes. Follow with a touch of liner on your lower lashes, but be careful to keep it light. Next, apply false lash pieces to the outer corners of your eyes and finish with another coat of mascara.
CHEEKS: Blend a liquid luminizer to the tops of your cheekbones, on the bridge of your nose and to the center of your forehead. Then, apply a touch of baby pink blusher to the apples of your cheeks and add a hint of bronzer to your temples, chin and nose if you feel you're looking too pale or too pink.
LIPS: Lastly, line lips with red lipliner and fill them in. Blot with a tissue so that the colour isn't too deep and then using a lip brush, apply your sexy red lipstick all over. You can use a clear gloss on top if you wish, or leave the look creamy or matte. Go get 'em tiger!

Nars Launches Sexy Summer Range as the Brand Turns 15

Get excited because today, Selfridges's is launching a two week sneak preview of the new Nars Summer 2009 Collection inspired by Francois Nars' love of the tropics. The nine products are chic, bold and seductive. He says, "The look for Summer 2009 is sophisticated, but colorful." There are three eye shadows, two lipsticks, a lip gloss, lip liner, nail polish and an amazing bronzer that makes a great addition to cult classics like Laguna, Casino and last season's bronzing multiple.

The star product of the group is clearly the tropic eye shadow. This enchanting teal blue flecked with sexy silver is captivating and different. I'm a little shy with blue shadow, so I think I'd wear it as an accent colour in the crease or as a liner. Do you wear blue eye shadow?

Also, to celebrate the 15th birthday of the brand and to promote the newbies, on 24th and 25th April, one of my favourite makeup artists Jane Richardson will be doing personal consultations.
