Designer Spotlight: Sofie Ølgaard

I recently met Danish clothing designer Sofie Ølgaard and was swept away by her unconventional creations. A local nail spa was hosting a shopping event and Ølgaard's rack stood out. Not because it was flashy - the Sweetie Cups au natural cupcakes take that cake - but quite the opposite, because it was so clean. I studied every piece, each silhouette captivating me more than the previous. But the one that stole the show was the navy silk drape dress (center). I had to have it - it's subtly sexy for night, but with a tube top underneath and leggings, it works for day. If you appreciate complicated silhouettes versus vivacious colors, Ølgaard is your fix. Non Voyage: Make Chicago Your Kid's Kind of Town

When you are through celebrating the bright lights of New York, head to the Midwest to give your children a taste of Chicago. The Windy City, which isn't really as breezy as kids might think, offers a scaled down version of big city living with its own unique flavors and sights.

The newly reopened Shedd Aquarium is one of the hottest destinations for Chicago-bound kids with its up close and personal looks at beluga whales, sea otters and sharks. Try visiting a local aquarium to get an aquatic animal experience. The Shedd's Polar Playzone allows kids to dress up like penguins and practice waddling around with an "egg" between their legs, sliding down ramps and experiencing life in a freezing atmosphere.
The Crown Fountain at Millennium Park is a big attraction for tots with its 50 foot towers bookending a reflecting pool of water and its video images that spout out water at unexpected times. Recreate the fun water experience with a backyard sprinkler that the kids can run through to cool off on a hot day.
Fill the kids up on local specialties like deep-dish pizza and Chicago-style hot dogs. Gino's East may make the perfect deep-dish pie in their restaurant, but instead of having it flown in, get your family to create your own perfect cornmeal-crusted deep-dish creation. Chicago-style hot dogs are known for their heaping piles of toppings like mustard, onions, relish, pickles and celery salt, so have the tots race to see who can build the tallest frankfurter.
Navy Pier has become a giant amusement park for kids, complete with its own 150-foot tall ferris wheel. Recreate the ferris wheel with markers and scissors with these unique instructions.
The new SkyDeck at the Sear's Tower allows visitors to stand 1,353 above the city and look through a Plexiglas floor at the busy streets below. The experience can be easily recreated by placing tots on steps or a deck overlooking their toy cars and trucks on the ground below. See if they can identify the colors and models of the toys from such a height.
Finish off the day with some movies that showcase the Second City in all of its glory, like Adventures in Babysitting, Home Alone and Uncle Buck while serving one of Michigan Avenue's famed treats – caramel corn.

This Week's Fab Favorite: Chloë Sevigny

I hereby declare today Chloë day. Any objections? Earlier this week, she showed us her and her man's Coachella style. This morning, we commended Chloë Sevigny in her cool camel getup - all Chloé, all camel, you get the picture. Then, Chloé's LA boutique held it's opening party and our girl Chloë once again delivered quirky chic, but this time in cream and navy. And now, we couldn't help but choose our cool blonde for Fab favorite of the week. Chloë has always been a smart fit for Chloé, no matter who the current designer of the house is.

Chloë is confident, cool, and eclectic - and has a killer bod. You can't see it under her dowdy garb on Big Love, but you can see it here. Her little navy short suit has a scalloped rim and slight cut out at the bust. Atop is a scalloped cream blazer scrunched at the sleeves. Eyes down to her puppies, and her bowed Chloé sandals are a sweet surprise. Simple jewelry adds flavor, and a satin clutch, held ever so nonchalantly, completes the look. I know many peeps don't approve of her natural waves, but I love them - laid back and lovely, just like our Chloë.

Fab Body Guide: Elongate Yourself

You've all heard that black makes you look slimmer and taller. While that's true, it's not the only trick in the book. There are a dozen other ways to elongate yourself without having to look goth. Take a look at the real-life examples below. For The Spirit LA premiere, Eva Mendes chose a Bill Blass maxi that, because it grazed the carpet, made her appear taller. Vertical stripes, as shown in the center editorial, and long cardigans, like on Katie Holmes, can also do the trick. Proceed for more tips.

Maxi Dresses: Like in Eva's case, maxi dresses give the illusion of tallness because they provide one straight line from top to bottom, without any interruptions.
Long Cardigans: It's a misconception that everything long makes you look tall. But a long cardigan, past your waist, is one casual way to do it. The darker the color the better.
Long, Wide-Leg Trousers: Be sure to find a style that grazes the floor, and preferably covers your shoes. They're never to be worn with flats, only high heels!
Platforms: It's no secret that platform shoes can literally add inches to your height. For a more subtle approach, choose a shoe with a hidden platform.
Vertical Stripes: Unlike horizontal stripes, which cut you off, vertical stripes keep going and going.

Trench Coats: A thigh-length trench coat is a slick, sophisticated way to appear tall, especially when worn with over-the-knee boots. Avoid anything longer than the knee, please.
Over-the-Knee Boots: Speaking of over-the-knee boots, ones with high heels will give you an extra boost. Just be sure to wear them with demure clothing; you don't want to look sketchy.
Dark Colors: Black, dark brown, navy, dark gray - these moody hues and others like them are right for looking slim and tall.
Long, Skinny Scarves: Throw on an extra long, extra skinny scarf to take the focus away from your outfit.
Turtlenecks: These give the illusion of a long neck, so they're perfect for those who have a short one.
High-Waist Styles: Whether its skirts, shorts, or pants, if you have a flat tummy, high-waisted styles can make your torso appear inches longer.
Opera Gloves: Unlike cropped gloves, opera styles go past your elbow and make your arms appear super slender.

Celebrity Style: Double the Lauren Conrad, Double the Fun

You knew this was coming - I can't resist Lauren's laid-back chic sometimes. She's a bona fide girl about town promoting her Mark cosmetics gig, and then appearing on The Late Show With David Letterman last night. She pulled a Carrie Bradshaw wearing a studded belt with both of these looks. For David, she was tailored and tough in Alice + Olivia navy wide-leg trousers and Mike & Chris cropped leather jacket - no LC outfit is complete without a Chanel bag. For Mark, she wore a skirt from Whitney Port's clothing line, said studded belt and a Fab Yaya Aflalo polka-dot tank. Which look do you like better?

Which Style Do You Like Better?

Tinseltown is seeing double! Ruby Maguire and Violet Affleck are two charmed tots that dress in style while maintaining practical playground attire. Both little lasses wore a version of Splendid Littles pink and navy striped dress while out running errands with their parents. Violet donned leggings and her trusty SuperGas to complete her look, while Ruby kept cool in her matching navy Crocs.

Get the Look: Warm Minimalism

This living room from Livingetc took me off guard because, while it's notably minimal, it still has a cozy, warm feeling unlike the sterile modern living rooms I'm used to seeing. The modern fireplace stove looks sleek and handsome, while the painted white floorboards give the living area a cottage-y feeling. I love how all of the furnishings sit low to the ground and relaxed, while the colored-glass vase appears to be the tallest item in the room. The Furniture: Pick up a dark colored (navy, green, gray) sofa with clean, modern lines that's low to the ground, or cut the legs on an existing sofa loose to shorten it. Find a white coffee table with a funky shape that's also low to the ground, like the Cappellini one shown here. Choose a simple, contemporary, white side chair that also sits low to the ground; try a design classic like the Nelson Coconut Chair or the Fritz Hansen Space Lounge Chair. Use other white seating for empty corners and nooks in your home.

The Accents: Go for a tall, colorful, blown-glass vase to set on your funky coffee table. Set down some interesting reading the table as well, and lay a cowhide rug in natural brown on the floor below. Finish off the couch with a traditional, navy-striped accent pillow. Hang an old sign or a meaningful word printed onto canvas above a doorframe or on an empty wall. Pick up some roll-up roman shades in natural linen to shield some of the light. Replace your old fireplace with a sleek modern one.

Overall, restrain yourself from buying or displaying too much "stuff." Create a clean space by using a near-white palette with an uncomplicated color used on the couch and a punch of color in an accent. Find warmth on your throw rug and fireplace, rather than in bright colors.

Get the Look: Lauren Conrad's Dog Walking Layering Look

Lauren Conrad is not one to leave her dog, or her style, at home when she's working out. I love her dog walking gear and I'm always on the market for a good long tank to layer while working out so FabSugar did a little investigating for me to find LC's Daftbird Daft-Jersey Body tank.
