More Chuck, Less Trauma, and Scrubs On the Way!

Earlier this week I broke down the ins and outs of Fall TV with my scorecard, but there are a few new developments to add. First, we've got another one to add to the R.I.P. list - NBC has pulled the plug on Trauma, and the show will be removed from the lineup after the initial 13 episodes are aired. I can't say I'm particularly sad about this development, since it means good news for one of my favorites: NBC has ordered six more episodes of Chuck, which was originally intended to have a shortened season. Plus, now that Trauma is out, it's more likely that Chuck will be back even sooner than March!

That's not all the news for today: the new (and improved?) Scrubs is officially on its way, with the season premiere scheduled for December 1 at 9 p.m. Hopefully the show will add some much-needed punch to the Tuesday night lineup which is a little lackluster right now.

NBC Fall Season Announced

We are still watching our favorite season finales but we have to switch gears to begin thinking about the networks new fall schedules. NBC announced theirs today and the big news is that both the Matthew Perry and Alec Baldwin have shows about the behind-the-scenes look at a late night program. These are by far the shows I am most interested in checking out. The sad news is Joey got the ax and Scrubs is once again on reserve like it was this year.

A brief look at the other new series:

Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (fall): The previously announced star of the schedule that isn't football. In this hourlong drama, Friends alum Perry and West Wing alum Bradley Whitford play producers of Saturday Night Live, sorry, "a popular, late-night comedy show comedy sketch show."

Heroes (fall): "A high school cheerleader learns that she is totally indestructible." No one-trick pony, this hourlong drama about ordinary people discovering their inner Superman and Wonder Woman, also promises a stripper (Final Destination's Ali Larter) who "uncovers that her mirror has a secret."

Kidnapped (fall): Prison Break meets Dynasty in this hourlong thriller about the abduction of a teen-aged boy, and focusing on his well-to-do Manhattan family, his kidnappers and his would-be saviors in law enforcement. Best-case scenario for NBC: The show's a hit, and the kid doesn't go home for a very long time. Timothy Hutton and Dana Delany head the ensemble cast.

20 Good Years (fall): In this "high-energy romp" of a sitcom, John Lithow, 60, and Jeffrey Tambor, 61, play friends who optimistically estimate they have two solid decades left to change their lives.

30 Rock (fall): SNL head writer Tina Fey plays the head writer of SNL, sorry, "a frenetic television variety show." Frequent SNL guest host Alec Baldwin costars, as do SNL regulars current, Rachel Dratch, and past, Tracy Morgan. NBC said it was not known yet if Fey and Dratch will continue to work on the show that actually is called SNL.

America's Got Talent (January): Regis Philbin looks for new talent that presumably producer Simon Cowell isn't looking for on American Idol.

The Singles Table (midseason): Because no NBC schedule would be complete without at least one attempt to redo Friends, this half-hour comedy sees five "witty and single strangers" bond while consigned to the "singles table" at a wedding. John Cho (Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle) stars.

SNL Coming to Thursdays for Presidential Election

So, Buzz just gave me the scoop on NBC's upcoming Fall schedule.

Saturday Night Live will be bringing a half hour of its "Weekend Update" to Thursday nights beginning Oct. 16. It'll be like Jon Stewart – but live and at primetime!

NBC's president of entertainment thinks "there's nothing better than Saturday Night Live in an election year." Do you agree? Has SNL returned to its political-skewering roots with a Hillary/Obama-fueled renaissance? Would this replace your Daily Show/fake-news fix, or does SNL Thursday Night Live sound a little like reheated leftovers?

Heroes Get Lucky!

The cast of Heroes have quite a lot to be happy about these days. Not only did they get to stock up on some swag at the 4th annual Lucky Club before the fall TV Upfronts but it's just been announced that they're getting a spin-off! Check out more information on the new show, Heroes: Origins here! Anything that brings us more Heroes sounds like a good idea to us. A much better idea than Nathan Petrelli's beard at least. Hopefully Heroes: Origins will live up to the original, unlike the Grey's Spin-Off, which is already not our favorite.

NBC was the first network to announce its full fall schedule this week which included a bunch of new shows and some old favorites. There to celebrate alongside our favorite Heroes was some of the cast of The Office, whose show has been renewed for 30 episodes next season!

Is Gina Gershon the Next SJP?

Gina is signed on to be the main character in Lipstick Jungle created by Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell. The show is being considered by NBC for their fall schedule. Gina's character is a high powered, hard working married woman in NYC. Here's more:

The book and the new TV show, both of which are considered something of a follow-up to "Sex and the City," follow the trials and tribulations of three best friends, who also happen to be among the most powerful and successful women in Manhattan.

Unlike "Sex and the City," in which most of the main characters were in their early- to mid-30s, the stars of "Lipstick Jungle" are in their 40s and much further along in their careers.

NBC is still casting the two remaining main characters, top-tier fashion designer Victory Ford and Nico O'Neilly, the glamorous, brilliant magazine editor.

Matthew Perry Working Out

Matthew Perry has been getting back into shape for his new show, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. We are eagerly awaiting the new NBC show which will also include Amanda Peet, Steven Weber and D.L. Hughley. A similar show is being developed with Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin. NBC says there is room for both of these comedies about behind the scenes of an SNL like show. We can't wait to see what happens this May when the new Fall TV schedules are announced. Stay tuned.
