Do You Ever Send Back Unwatched Netflix Discs?

Sorry Netflix discs: when the weather's nice, it's just hard to sit down and watch a movie.

Even though I'm having fun, my poor discs are left languishing - and whereas I used to just let the discs lie around unwatched, now I have started sending the unwatched discs back. Rather than rack up entertainment debt, I just resign myself to seeing the movie at another, more convenient time, so I can get something more compelling to watch. Of course, sometimes I also realize that I've put a movie on my queue I was never really interested in to begin with, and have no hesitation to send it back.

Hey, a girl's got to get her money's worth. And now that discs are being processed on Saturdays, it's even more worth it.

Tell me, what do you do with Netflix or Blockbuster discs you don't watch? Do you keep them till you watch them, or impatiently send them back like me?

Using Netflix's Instant Watch? Then you may be as frustrated as I am trying to find movies and shows to add. I do a little dance if I already have a movie in mind, and when I go to add it to my queue, the little red "Add" button (meaning it can be added to the instant queue) is there.

Otherwise, not only is it arduous to peruse Netflix's website for instant flicks, but all the content isn't even in one place.

I had another reason to do my little dance when I found InstantWatcher. Straightforward and unfancy, Instant Watcher keeps a constant and complete list of everything available to watch instantly from Netflix. As a bonus, you can even add movies to your queue from the site if you're logged in to your account in your browser. Bookmark it now, I tell you.

Would You Keep Using Netflix If It Was Owned by Amazon?

I know it's kind of silly, but I've always been proud to be a Netflix subscriber, because I felt like I was supporting a local company. The San Francisco-based company has gotten huge, but its roots are in the Bay Area, where I am - and I like to think of it as a hometown company, a local affair that triumphed over the Goliath of BlockBuster.

That little local-biz-makes-good fantasy could be coming to a close, though, as rumors are swirling that Amazon could be taking over the mailed movie service.

The speculation - which is not new, an Amazon acquisition was rumored a couple of years ago - came about because Netflix's stock had gotten a little push.

What does this mean for us customers if it's true? It could mean that nothing changes, and it could mean that everything changes; we can't know.

What we do know is that my sweet little notion of supporting a local company would be done for. Would that make me stop using Netflix? Probably not. Would Amazon owning Netflix affect the way you felt about it?

Netflix Has Begun Processing Discs on Saturdays

It's a dance: To maximize your Netflix account, you know you have got to get that movie in the mail on Thursday, so it'll be processed on Friday and you can get a movie on Saturday. . . But if you ship that disc on Friday, you know that Netflix won't touch it on Saturday, and you'll have to wait for Monday processing. Some people don't even receive Saturday discs in their area!

Well, the seeds of change have been sown, my friends, because Netflix Saturday is coming up - confirming reports from back in January that Netflix would take on Saturday processing, so not only would you be able to receive discs that day, but a disc sent on Friday that got there Saturday would be sent out in time for a Monday delivery (phew). Of course, that's banking on Netflix doing their speedy one-day processing.

In any case, members in East Coast and Midwest regions have begun seeing Saturday processing, which hopefully means it'll bleed into everywhere else soon.

Me, I'm watching all my inboxes until then.
