Trend Alert: Ripped Jeans

Earlier this year Balmain's £1000 ripped jeans caused quite a stir and although I find their price tag quite ridiculous, I can't shake the idea of ripped jeans from my mind! Fortunately for me, you can now get a very stylish pair for a lot less than that.

For a rock chick look opt for a skinny pair in faded denim. Simply team with ankle boots and a band t-shirt and you'll quickly be mistaken for a roadie I'm sure! Layer over bright coloured tights for a funkier (and warmer) style. Alternatively, for a more laid back look go for ripped boyfriend jeans.

Nicole Richie likes to wear hers skinny with a waistcoat, Heidi Klum wears them flared with a pretty blouse and Eva Longoria rolls hers up with a stripey top.

Nicole's Starbucks, Scarf, Skinny Jeans and Progress at School

Nicole Richie's quick trip to Manhattan with Harlow and to check out New York Fashion Week was already over yesterday afternoon as she was back to traffic school in LA. Not quite as glamorous as front row watching the runway, but Nicole always manages to make her Starbucks and skinny jeans work. We're not the only ones noticing Nicole's traffic school diligence - yesterday the judge commended the starlet for her progress "in compliance" with her court order. A followup hearing is set for Feb. 20, 2009, and it looks like it should be easy for Nicole to stay out of trouble from now until then.

How To: Perfect Plaits for Jennifer Ellison

After designers showcased multiple braids this season, including the skinny pirate plaits at Jean Paul Gaultier, the braid could well be crowned the hair trend of the 2008. While most of you love this look it has become a touch ubiquitous in celebrity world, with both Nicole Richie and Jessica Simpson making the trend their own, with single, double and triple braid styles.

Last night, at Dolce in London, Jennifer Ellison followed suit with a Grecian, milkmaid braid wrapped around the crown of her head, as well as a fluffed-up, pulled-back up do. Perhaps it was because the colours didn't seem to match, but there was something odd looking about this style that made me think it was a hair piece.

Admittedly, plaits can be tricky as you're walking the line between Little House on the Prairie and Grecian goddess. For a few easy tips, read more.

For a quick up do, follow Nicole Richie's lead with a braids and bun style. Simply take two sections at the front and plait so you have two long plaits falling on either side of your face. Then scrape hair back into a messy bun and pin. It's supposed to look slightly unkempt so don't be too neat.
For a flattering milkmaid braid, either use a hair piece that matches your hair colour correctly, like Sienna Miller, or wrap around the centre of your head, instead of the front, like Salma Hayek.
Use your centre parting as a guideline, then create two braided plaits and secure each braid with a small hair band. Aim to cross the plaits over the top of your head and secure each side with bobby pins.
For an easy, pirate plait look, just take random sections of hair and plait. Take from the underneath of your hair to make for an unstructured look.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden are already battling criticism that they've been going out on the town too much since Harlow's birth, but the happy new parents certainly looked like they had baby in mind out shopping in LA over the weekend. Not even going to comment on her being back in the skinny jeans already, sigh. At least you can't deny that Nicole and Joel still look adorably in love. Also curious about what Miss Richie thinks about the Paris/Benji relationship. I kinda feel like Nicole would be less into the "we could be sisters-in-law" thing than Paris. Really though, I'm with you guys - wanting to see those Harlow pics, please.

Brody Admits It's All a Ruse

Brody Jenner, Former Prince of Malibu, drummer in the band Facehumper and starlet-dater extraordinaire, has finally opened up about the heartache of his failed Hollywood relationships. That, or blowing the cover off of how fake it all really is. In next month's issue of Details, Brody and his "manager- slash- publicist-slash- agent-slash-stylist" Spencer (aka, the d-baggiest character on all of reality TV, which is saying a lot) sat down to talk about all the nonsense. Here's more:

Spencer gave Brody invaluable advice on who to date:"Here's what you're gonna do. You're gonna start dating Nicole Richie. And you're gonna get that skinny bitch to eat, all right? You are about to become The Guy Who Got Nicole Richie to Eat. Process that sh--, bro. You'll be, like, a f---ing hero to America."
On his relationship with Lauren Conrad: "Basically," says Jenner, 23, "I made it, like, my mission to try to go on a date with every girl on The Hills."
On the crazy world that is LA: "This whole scene, this whole town – it's so fake," he says. "It's like a movie set, like my life is a movie set. These people, they all think it's real, but it's not."..."I wanna meet a girl who has nothing to do with L.A., a nice, normal, real girl."..."Actually, you now, that's gonna be a component of our new MTV show – me leaving L.A. to meet a normal girl. It might be hard, though, with all the cameras."

Ah yes, though he may sound like a creep with the Nicole Richie stuff, at least he's an honest creep? And a cute creep? That too. I'd say that maybe saying this all out loud will hurt his chances of sleeping with further MTV reality starlets, but who's kidding who here -- he'll keep doing just fine.

Posh Voted Worst Celebrity Legs?

Victoria may seem to have it all - a gorgeous husband, beautiful kids, a successful book and fashion career, and even a-list celebrity friends. But unfortunately, Ms Posh doesn't have it all. According to a recent poll she tops the list of worst celebrity legs. Nicole Richie comes in second and even Madonna was in the top ten. From that you can assume that the voters disapproved of super-skinny celebrity legs but Kate Moss comes in at #2 on the "best legs" chart and hers are quite thin as well.

Fab Body Guide: It's a Petite World

A Fab reader recently wrote in asking us to start PetiteSugar. Since that's not on the roster (but you never know...) we decided we could do a Fab Body Guide dedicated to petites.

I lightly touched on the subject with Rachel Bilson, but here are many more helpful tips on how to elongate your silhouette, accessories dos and don'ts, and online retail shops with stylish fashions for petites.

Tips on elongating your small frame:

Wearing similar colors, or monochrome, gives the illusion you're taller. It provides a continuous flow from one item of your outfit to the next.

When you don't want to wear all one color, just make sure the silhouette of your outfit is lengthening. For example, if you want to wear a fuchsia blouse with white pants, make sure the hem of the pants sweeps the floor, even with your high heels.
To avoid looking wide, stay away from horizontal stripes and colorblocking; you can certainly do skinny stripes though!
Another style that makes you appear wide is anything overly billowy, a la Nicole Richie's tiered mini dress. If you must dabble with the trend, steer clear of tiers.

Speaking of creating continuous flow, make sure your shoes and tights are similar in color. A black outfit with a white shoe will chop up your leg and make you look stout.
Avoid super long tunics, especially if you're wearing a long skirt or pants. With a skirt that hits above the knee, mid-thigh grazing tops are a more acceptable. Also be wary of cropped jackets and tops - they don't call them cropped for nothing!
When wearing cropped or capri pants do like Sarah Jessica Parker and wear them with high heels.

Accessories Dos and Don'ts

Do wear pointed toe shoes because they are more lengthening than round toe.
Don't wear T-Straps, bows, or heavy buckles on your footwear because it creates a wide, chunky effect.
Do wear flats, but keep your outfit silhouette slim.
Do stay away from wide, colorful belts. If you're going to wear a belt, opt for a skinny one.
