Reader Review of the Day: Olay Body Wash Plus Body Butter Ribbons

Olay Body Wash ($5.29) was a staple of my college dorm bathroom in the Winter, when no amount of lotion could keep the indoor heat from drying my skin out. I haven't used it in a couple years now that I live in more temperate climes, but the most recent version incorporates body butter, and it sounds just as good as the original. Reader hippiecowgirl wrote a nice review of it, so I'll let her take it from here:

"It's really creamy and moisturizing. I used it as a body cleanser and a shaving cream at the same time. My skin felt fresh, and I got a close shave, so it definitely serves both purposes well. The only thing I didn't care for was the perfumey scent. I plan to purchase this again in the winter when my skin is extra dry."

After 25 Years, Twiggy's Back With Olay

Long gone are days when models became washed up before their 30th birthdays. Take "the big six" of the '90s, for instance, whose varied careers have withstood the test of time. Also take note of Twiggy, the waifish model who became the face of the '60s while still in her teenage years. And now, the iconic model, who turns 60 in a few short months, is back in action.

After first appearing in Olay ads in the mid-1980s, Twiggy, née Lesley Hornby, is slated to be the face of Olay Definity, an antiaging skincare line. "I am delighted to be fronting the new advertising campaign for Olay Definity. Like many women. I trust Olay to meet my specific skincare needs," she said. I only hope I look as ageless as Twiggy when my big 6-0 drops by.

This is my favorite lotion. I usually use the formula for extra-dry skin in the Winter and it really works on all my areas of dry skin. I apply in the morning after I shower and don't need to worry about reapplying until the next day. It also adds a touch of shimmer, which I love!

Is Eco-Friendly Packaging Important To You?

After my friend Babyassface pointed out how wasteful Olay's packaging is – especially because it's practically impossible to recycle - she received a lame, canned response. She's encouraging people to write letters to Olay, explaining their preference for a more environmentally friendly packaging system. I definitely prefer to buy products with minimal (or better yet, no) packaging. What about you? How important is environmentally friendly packaging when you're shopping for beauty?

Beauty Brands Team With BET For "My Black is Beautiful"

This is pretty cool news: Procter & Gamble, the company behind brands such as Cover Girl and Olay, is teaming up with BET for a new TV show called My Black is Beautiful. Set to begin in March, the show is based on the P&G campaign of the same name. Each episode will feature interviews, personal stories, beauty tips, and other content aimed at celebrating black beauty. The first episode features First Lady Michelle Obama, a surefire ratings winner.

My Black is Beautiful isn't a new idea, though; the campaign began in 2007 to encourage women to define their sense of beauty on their own terms. And after taking a look at the website, I think P&G is on the right track. Check out this excellent discussion guide, and set your TiVos to see how the show pans out.

Anastasia Achilleos' Expert Tips For Bright Eyes

Celebrity facialist Anastasia Achilleos certainly knows a thing or two about making the most of your features. She has a wealth of celebrity clients, who are rumoured to include Kate Moss, Sadie Frost, Daisy Lowe and Gwyneth Paltrow.

In conjunction with the launch of Olay's fantastic Definity Eye Illuminator (£24.99), I spoke to Anastasia about some tips for keeping your eyes looking bright throughout the winter.

"Invest some time in making compresses for your eyes." suggests Anastasia. "Take some cotton wool discs, soak them in water and place in the fridge to cool for 20 minutes. Then apply a little Olay Definity Eye Illuminator around the eye area and place the pads over each eye, with eyes closed. Then lie down for 10 minutes whilst the effects of the coolness and the hydration of the product really gets to work."
"Before applying an eye cream or makeup spend a few minutes massaging the eye area." says Anastasia. "Sweep your fingers across your brow line until you reach the outer corner of both eyes. With your two middle fingers stretch the skin vertically to create a gap of approximately one inch and hold for five seconds. Continue the movement by sweeping two fingers beneath the eye socket to come back to the bridge of the nose." Repeat this three times.
"Use a brightening eye cream every morning and night to reduce the appearance of fine lines" adds Anastasia. "Dab small dots evenly around your eye area, under eyes, outer corners and eye lids and massage in gently."

Product Review: Everyday Sunshine

As a firm believer in gradual tanners – especially those of the budget variety – I was intrigued by the buzz around Olay Complete Care Everyday Sunshine Body Moisturiser, (£5.99).

It won Best Body Self Tanner, in the Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards, and recently every other person I compliment on their sun kissed glow, has told me it's actually Olay.

Despite being quite pale, I accidentally bought the 'deep sun-kissed' colour, so was a little apprehensive when I realised that this may not be all that natural looking. Plus I noticed my hands were looking slightly orange after I applied it, so don't forget to scrub, if you want people to think you're naturally brown.

I really liked that the consistency was creamy, and it was super-easy to apply. The only thing that put me off, slightly, was that typical biscuit-y smell that fake tans sometimes give off. That aside, there was no streaking, and the colour, which instantly looked fairly deep, was even and natural-seeming.

Everyday Sunshine has added vitamin E, as well, so your skin feels really soft and pampered. I didn't do any of the prep you're supposed to do before using a fake tan – all that exfoliating and moisturising elbows and knees – but the effect was fantastic.

I am now in a routine of using it once every three days, but if I'd chosen the lighter colour I'd probably be using it everyday to build up the tan.

Who needs the beach? Summer in the city has never been so glowing.

Must-Have of The Moment: Olay Regenerist Touch of Sun

I've got to tip you off about this newish Regenerist Touch of Sun UV Defense Regenerating Lotion ($15.19) from Olay. It has become nothing short of a cult craze in the United Kingdom and Australia. (However, be warned, if you are a reader from across the pond or down under you'll want to know that this gem may also be called Olay Total Effects 7x Touch of Sun. )

Not only does it claim to moisturize with a light, non-greasy formula, gradually create a non-streaky and natural looking facial tan, improve the condition of the skin in seven days and help diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles, but it also contains SPF 15. I personally haven't tried it yet, but I've been reading tons of reviews and I feel obliged to share both the pros and cons with you. To find out what they are, read more

CONS: Apparently if you don't wash your hands really well, the stains can cause major stains - even on your fingernails! Also, it's slightly orangey and if you are really pale, steer clear from using it daily or you'll turn an unnatural shade.
PROS: Believe it or not, it doesn't streak, and the moisturizing aspect of it is getting great reviews. Many feel that it is light and absorbs quickly. Also, doesn't have that icky, self-tanning cream smell.

Doing Drugstore: Olay Regenerist Thermal Skin Polisher

I am a bathroom snoop. Whenever I go over to somebody's house and use the loo, my eyes scour the room to see what people are using. Even better is what happens when you stay at a friend's house: You sometimes get to try out something new. A few weeks ago, while staying with my brother and his wife, I was able to try Olay Regenerist Thermal Skin Polisher ($12.59).

Like Prescriptives Instant Gratification, this Olay product is a warming, exfoliating product meant to brighten skin. Unlike Instant Gratification, though, it's an everyday product as opposed to a mask. I was shocked by the high quality of this stuff. If you'd blindfolded me, I would have guessed that it was from La Prairie or another high-end brand.

The polisher has a clean, slightly clinical smell with gentle exfoliating beads. Like many expensive skin treatments, it contains glycolic acid to help renew skin. Plus, the warming sensation is somehow stimulating and relaxing at the same time. After using this stuff, my skin was clean and healthy-looking without being too dry or shiny.

Beauty Byte: Marcia Promotes Skin Cancer Screening

Skin cancer is very prevalent in our society today, so be sure to take advantage of the free skin cancer screening program next month, called Skin Cancer Takes Friends.

According to reports, Olay and the American Society for Dermatological Surgery have teamed up with Desperate Housewife, Marcia Cross, to spread awareness of the program, which is meant to encourage people to bring their friends to dermatologic surgeons for a free screening. Look out for Marcia, who will appear in a national print campaign in Shape Magazine and in in-store visuals.

"I'm proud to be part of a cause that is near and dear to my heart," said actress Marcia Cross. "Having had two family members suffer from melanoma, I've come to understand the importance of skin cancer detection and prevention."
