Olsens Expand The Row Via Eyewear

Clothing. Check. Footwear. Check. Jewelry. Check. Now Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are also adding sunglasses to their growing fashion empire. Fabulous. Come Spring, you'll be able to purchase four styles of sunglasses retailing from $325 to $390: a metal aviator pair, vintage-style brow-line shades, an oversize square shape, and a '60s-inspired round frame. "We're testing the market first and obviously these are four very different silhouettes, so we're seeing what people are responding to and we'll open up a couple more silhouettes for Fall," Ashley Olsen said. Look for the Spring styles at Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York.

Our favorite twins are at it again and we couldn't be happier, or rather, our BFs couldn't be happier. Next on tap for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen: designing a men's collection.

The line will be a part of their upper-tier label, The Row. Ashley came up with the idea and has started the design process for the collection which is rumored to debut in Fall '09. Ashley is known for her cool mixed masculine style so it kind of makes sense. Excitement for all.

On Our Radar: Olsens Launch Eyewear for Spring

The Olsens are often spotted out and about in sunglasses, so it makes sense that their next move in the fashion industry should be to introduce eyewear. It has just been announced that the stylish twins will team up with Linda Farrow eyewear for Spring 2010. Initially there will be four styles: a classic metal aviator, an oversize square frame, vintage-inspired brow-line rims and a pair of round shades taken from the Sixties. Ashley explained the shape choices, "We tried to find certain pieces that look good on more than one face, to pay close attention to how they fit certain faces and make them wearable at the same time."

The sunglasses will form part of The Row range and will retail from $325 to $390 (about £205 to £245). Mary Kate explained that the process hasn't been as straight forward as they thought.

"Designing eyewear was definitely more complicated than we thought, and of course we wanted to be extremely hands-on. From what I understand, the first year with eyewear is figuring out what the process will be like for us specifically. I think everyone does it differently, whether it’s looking through old materials or archives or working with drawings and measurements."

Fab Flash: Ashley O. Peddles The Row

Late last week, Ashley Olsen made an appearance at a Dallas boutique to promote her designer collection, The Row, wearing a cashmere tunic and black leather leggings from the line.

Since Spring 2007, when the collection debuted with 18 knits, production has expanded to 110 looks for Fall 2008, including a $4,500 natural kangaroo coat and a $4,000 seamed black leather poncho with raw edges.

"What it always comes down to is simple, clean lines and beautiful fabrics," Ashley said. "The whole collection is based on fit and quality." She also mentioned that everything is made in the US, with the exception of cashmere knits, to maintain tight quality control.

Ashley is on hiatus from New York University to focus all of her attention on the label, taking the leading role so Mary-Kate can focus on her acting career. As Rae Miles, The Row's commercial director stated, "Ashley is there full time, every day. She's in all the fittings, picking all the fabrics and making the final decisions." Sounds like devotion!

Ashley Olsen shows us the power of accessories. To offset the all-black ensemble she wore to the David Letterman show, she threw on gorgeously large jeweled earrings that steal the show. Always one to represent her clothing lines, Ashley wore an LBD and black blazer from The Row. I love that the blazer is slightly longer than the dress. Another scene-stealer are her pointy velvet pumps. Chic all around.

Ashley Olsen Works It in Underwear & Talks Fashion For V MAN

Ashley Olsen stripped down to strike a few moody poses for the upcoming Summer issue of V MAN, which hits newsstands this Thursday. She chatted with Marc Jacobs about her forthcoming men's collection for The Row, and the two designers also touched on her work ethic and the differences between her and Mary-Kate. Here's more:

On doing a "celebrity line": "The way I look at it, I had a career as a child. I had a career in an industry in which the media kind of. . . they're obsessed with the young girl thing. But when I turned 18, I moved to New York, and I haven't really done anything to be a celebrity. I've been transitioning from acting as a kid to doing something that I'm choosing for myself - to be a part of the fashion industry. . . the outside perception is very different because you do have celebrity brands, people like Jessica Simpson and Kimora Lee Simmons, and those are celebrity brands because they have their names on them."
On working with Mary-Kate: "The Row is really something that I'm doing while my sister still wants to focus on acting. She's my partner in The Row, but she trusts me with the every day. I mean, I see her like ten times a day."
On being different from her twin sister: "When I was 14, 15, 16, 17, it was harder because the two of us were still very similar. We had to work through what's special about us, and then the media had to work through it. . . I've never been one to engage the media to say that I'm different. I actually did the opposite and I totally went internal. I was like, "See y'all!" I want to be behind the scenes, and I don't want people to know anything about my personal life. I have a job, I take it very seriously, and I work really hard."

Ashley definitely puts in overtime as an ambassador for her brand, but we still enjoy the occasional public appearances with her man Justin.

Freaky or Fabulous: Ashley and Mary-Kate's Laced Ears

Girls just wanna have fun. That's exactly what Ashley and Mary-Kate did this past weekend at the Opening Ceremony reception in Japan, when they paired Maison Michel's laced ears with their LBDs - was Madonna on to something? Check out Ashley donning quirky lace Mickey Mouse ears with an LBD from The Row collection, cream coat, Ralph Lauren tortoise sunglasses, studded sandals, and funky red handbag - both from Prada.

Mary-Kate complemented her rabbit ears with a ruffly Toga frock, Prada ankle wrap platforms, and a studded bag from the same designer. No doubt, the two are known for their unique style - play this game to see if you can tell the two apart - and kudos to them for making fashion fun. Catching Up With Mary-Kate

Here's how Mary-Kate's week went last week: Tuesday, CelebStyle is giving away pieces from the Elizabeth and James jewelry line; Wednesday, chatted with Fab while drinking a non-vanilla iced latte; Wednesday night, partied with fashion folks at Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld exhibition; Thursday, attended Proenza Schouler's Fall show while wearing a pair of shoes from Elizabeth and James's shoe collection; Saturday, attended the Independent Spirit awards in Proenza shoes. Whew. See how it's all intertwined? It had to be fate, then, that led me and Mary-Kate to a surprise convo at the Elizabeth and James design studio in NYC.I had an appointment to see the highly anticipated Elizabeth and James shoes and to preview the Summer clothing collection. No silly, not with Mary-Kate, she just happened to pop by when I was getting the scoop. Intros were made, Fab stood in shock.

Then we talked all things Olsen. Me, sipping on my GNC smoothie, her sipping her non-vanilla iced latte (she asked the deliverer to make sure it wasn't vanilla - are you getting this, Yum?). We then talked shoes. I can't reveal more pictures yet, but the finely crafted shoes come in either very flat or very heeled form - no in between. My favorites were the pony hair loafers and black suede ruched d'orsay open toe sandals. The Steve Madden team is very involved with manufacturing, sourcing, and distributing the shoes but with the girls’ aesthetic and the Elizabeth and James shoe designer, they are very different from the Steve Madden shoe lines. The shoes are very well made, being produced in China, Mexico, Brazil and Italy, and a price point below heavyweight heels like Louboutin or Manolo. MK spoke about how Ashley was inspired by a trip to Greece and hence created the gladiator sandals.

We then chatted about the quick success of The Row's menswear launch; MK was surprised it took off so fast. I swear, everything they touch turns to gold. We also talked about a friend of mine who worked as their illustrator on their junior line in LA - she said to say hi Jevon! Lastly, she was wearing the Balenciaga sandals in the photo on the left, black holey legging/tights, and an oversize black sweater. She was very polite and mellow. Mary-Kate and Ashley Stick Together in Work and Travel

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen had the layers piled on Tuesday when they arrived at LAX. They're back in California after a few weeks in NYC, where they debuted their new Olsenboye range for JC Penny on Good Morning America. The twins also took to the city streets in a customized treat truck to show off their line, which is set to include bags and shoes as well. The collection will be more moderately priced than The Row or Elizabeth and James, as the newly-minted CFDA members continue expanding their empire.

Do you like Ashley's latest look? Apparently it is part of her new line that she debuted at a Balenciaga party. MK was there to lend her sisterly support as she tested the waters. Things are still very hush-hush on Ashley's new world of fashion but FWD has some of the scoop. FWD reports:

While celebrity guests attending the Balenciaga party at Barneys Friday night wore Ghesquière nearly head to toe, Ashley Olsen used the opportunity to test drive a piece from what The Daily has learned will be the name of her forthcoming line, The Row. Her cropped navy-and-forest-green plaid-printed jacket was a chic update on the carpetbagger look for which she and Mary Kate have become best known. While details remain under wraps, the voluminous little blazer looked a healthy contender for Ashley’s foray into the world of designer fashion.
