Test Drivin' the Dymo DiscPainter

This is the first time I've ever experimented with a CD disc painter before and I can honestly say: I'm hooked! If you ever need to make a batch of CDs - as a keepsake from a wedding, birthday, or party - personalizing each disc with an image, text or fun graphic is such a nice added touch! With the Dymo DiscPainter you can quickly and easily label CDs - the handy software it comes with gives you a ton of user-friendly customization options.

To get started, all you have to do is install the software on your laptop, pop the ink cartridge into the compact Dymo DiscPainter, connect the power and USB cords and off you go! To keep reading, and to check out a video of the DiscPainter in action (plus more pics!), just read more.

Once you get the image or design just the way you want it to appear on your CD - you can control the ink quality and choose from settings like matte, colored and glossy - insert a glossy, water resistant CD-R (it comes with three) into the DiscPainter and hit print from your desktop. And in as little as 30 seconds (600 dpi) to three minutes (1200 dpi), your disc will be completed and covered with a radiant image! The DiscPainter is compatible with not only CDs, but full-sized DVDs and mini discs too. Each unit is priced at $250 without the cartridge and $288 with.

Love It or Hate It? Painter's Chair

My grandmother was a painter and also a decorator, so she was very particular about the way her studio looked. Afraid her paints might ruin her studio floors, she painted them all black and then called in her friends for a splatterpainting party, purposefully painting her floors à la Jackson Pollock. This Urban Outfitters Painter's Chair ($298) is a bit like those floors, except much less inspired. Its allover splatterpaint is really just decorative, not functional. It's also a bit of a knock-off of Marcel Breuer's Wassily Chair. What do you think?

New Product Alert: MAC Painterly Collection

Okay, so I know I sound like I've reverted to sixth-grade Bella, but seriously, you guys: This is so cool. MAC has just released a line of new eye shadows called Paint Pots. The highly pigmented shadows go on creamy, but dry to a vibrant matte or pearlized finish. You'll need a makeup brush to apply it, but with these colors, I think it's worth it!

MAC has also introduced Technakohl (yuk yuk), a mechanical pencil liner, and I'm completely crazy about these Featherette lashes. Practical? No. Fabulously fantastical? Absolutely!

Nicole Kidman's Candid About Sexual Fetish and Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman has given a frank interview to British GQ for their December issue, and posed in lingerie for the accompanying photo shoot. While yesterday's rumours about her teaming up with Robert Pattinson for Bel Ami have been quickly denied, Nicole did tell the magazine about her relationships with other men. She reveals her penchant for sexual fetish, opens up about Tom Cruise, and speaks about the challenges of marriage. Here are the highlights:

On Tom Cruise: "I became famous very young. I became very famous because I was the wife of somebody. I did a lot of good, worthwhile work in Australia between the ages of 14 and 19 and then I married someone famous... I know my agents at the time were like, 'Do not get married! It will ruin your career!' And I was like, 'But I’m in love!' All I know is that I wasn’t someone interested in fame. And that’s not why I got married."
On her explorations in love and sex: "My life has been about exploring types of love. I’ve explored obsession, I’ve explored loss and love in terms of being in a grief-stricken place, I’ve explored strange sexual fetish stuff, I’ve explored the mundane aspect of marriage, and monogamy. But I’m still on that journey."
On Keith Urban's problems with drugs and alcohol: "I don’t talk about that. That’s the sanctity of our marriage. Our relationship is pretty much off bounds and we really don’t discuss it except to say we’re very together. And you know, you work on it. It’s a very adventurous, extraordinary place to be: incredibly raw, incredibly dangerous and you’re very much out at sea. You’re exposed. You could drown. When you commit to someone like that you live and die together by that decision."

On the state of her relationship with Tom during Eyes Wide Shut: "[W]e were pretty happily married throughout that period. People will always watch the movie in hindsight and go, ‘Oh no, that must be where it all went wrong.’ I don’t want to say whether anything is or isn’t true any more. Listen, people can mythologise and think what they want, and that’s where it begins and ends for me. The rest of it is information. Some of it is isinformation. And some of it isn’t. I don’t care now at this stage in my life to refute rumours, or confirm them... We’ll see where it takes me and where it ends up but, right now, I quite like that abandoned feeling."
On refusing to talk about Tom and Scientology: "I want to honour that marriage for what it was, and there is nothing I would go into about that. I have never discussed the intricacies of it and I never will."
On filming Nine after giving birth to Sunday: "I'd just given birth, so i was like, 'OK, I'm [still] a woman – I want to do this film! And I do have a life other than simply feeding this baby.' I think when you give birth you get itchy to get back to work and you want to feel life still goes on."
On what she wants from her career: "I make films that aren’t everybody’s cup of tea, I realise that. I get it. But that’s where i am. if I were a painter I certainly wouldn’t be painting for the masses. And I’m unwavering on this. I want to take risks. I want excitement, danger and uncertainty."
On not choosing the safe option: "I have a career where I have had to weather the storms. It’s become second nature to me. I’m used to my roles and the movies I’m in being criticised. I seek it out. In my life i do not seek out a safe place. I like existing in an uncomfortable place artistically. People can believe this or not, but in the end I hope my life will be a mix of extreme love and bold artistic choices. I’ve never wanted to be safe. I’ve never chosen safe relationships. And I’ve never chosen safe films. I would have had a much easier life if I did."

Would You Barter to Get What You Want?

Old-school savings are back in a big way. The recession has created a new generation of coupon clippers and deal hunters. But, it's not just about groceries and retail - even on big items, like home renovation. There's a trick to saving: try bartering.

I'll admit, the idea of bartering seemed a little beyond me - not just a retro throwback, but more like a nod to the real olden days. In actuality, bartering today is surprisingly sophisticated - and can get you a lot more than you might imagine. For instance, Camille Tominaro, whose vacation home needed a little renovation, used a little bartering innovation to get the job done. She posted her bartering proposal - a free vacation stay in her home, in exchange for the construction and improvements on the house - on Craigslist, and voila! Painters and carpenters responded to the add, did the work, and enjoyed their stay in the newly renovated house, as agreed upon.

Obviously, just as you would during a monetary transaction, be mindful of who you're trading with, look for references, and as a precaution, keep it local when you're trading services. So, what do you think? Would you try bartering as a saving solution?

On the Market: Former New Orleans Home of Vampire Enthusiast Anne Rice

The former New Orleans home of Anne Rice, author of Interview With the Vampire and the Vampire Chronicles series, is on the market for $3.7 million. The 1850s home has a transitional style, with both Greek Revival and Italianate elements. It boasts double galleries with Corinthian and Ionic columns, massive antique beveled mirrors in the double parlors, antique landscape murals in the dining room, gorgeous millwork, and exquisite plated ceilings.

The house was the inspiration for Mayfair Manor, the Garden District home of the characters in Rice's Mayfair Witches. The home's oak tree, swimming pool, and iron scrollwork side porch figure prominently into the script. Rice and her late husband, poet and painter Stan Rice, lived there from 1989 to 2004. With five bedrooms and seven-and-two-half baths, a pond, a three-car garage, a guest house, a cabana, and a courtyard, it's truly a dream home. It's a big job, and people often hire painters to complete it, though this Su Casa reader did it herself (nice work!). Have you ever painted your home's exterior? Fab Exclusive! Rachel Roy Dishes Inspiration and Favorite Pieces From Her Macy's Collection

Rachel Roy is officially our latest girl crush, thanks to an amazing Macy's Rachel Roy event we attended in San Francisco. Walking into Macy's contemporary department that night was like stepping into a cool lounge complete with a dope DJ - who played some of my favorite old-school jams - fabulously dressed people, delightful bubbly, and RR macaroons. And, of course, the breathtakingly beautiful Rachel Roy was present. We shopped 'til we dropped and managed to sneak in some one-on-one time with the charming designer. Did you know she's a Bay Area native? Born and raised in Monterey, baby. After talking about the Bay Area - more to come on that topic - we found out which pieces were her favorite from the collection and who inspired her.
Which pieces from the collection do you think are the most bang for your buck?

"That's a great question. Because I'm older, I tend to go for the classic looks - like the trench coat. You can take the belt off and wear it a million different ways. I like that you can also wear it like a trench dress."

A trench dress?

"Yes, like a painterly kind of trench coat. And I try to do pieces for young girls to wear, like to an interview, and also be able to wear to a party - a look that mixes both."

Day to night?

"Yes, depending on how I dress it up or down. And you know kids don't have a lot of money, so I want to give them that versatility. But I also want to keep them chic, modern, and respect them to not just throw junk out there. It's time consuming and there's a lot of work, but I'm really trying to my best to put together a collection that respects the consumer."

I love this red and black print.

"I love that. It reminded me of Yves Saint Laurent's hieroglyphics from back in the day. He got the inspiration from his home town [Algeria]. I could never do that in my designer line, and that's one of the big prints for me here. In my designer line, I have to find a print that's kind of 100 percent me."
