Last night, MTV's show, Teen Mom wrapped up its first season with a check-in with Dr. Drew. The girls have done a lot of maturing since we first laid eyes on them in 16 and Pregnant, but they still have a lot of growing up to do.

We recently attended one of my son's classmate's birthday party at the local firehouse. As part of the celebration, the firemen gave a demonstration of what to do in case of an emergency. During the lesson, one child began getting antsy because he wanted to climb on the firetrucks.

What happens when a parent acts like a child? We were at a private jumpy house party when my son came running over to me in hysterics— choking on his words and pointing in the direction of the blow-up slide he had been on. Before I could calm him down to figure out what happened, the grandfather of another partygoer came over to tell me that he had "chewed out" my 3-year-old because he had pushed the man's granddaughter on the bouncy stairs.

Rubber ducky may make bath time lots of fun, but keeping baby teeth clean, tots hydrated and little hands germ free requires a whole different bag of tricks. Fostering healthy habits and grooming techniques is a chore for squiggly children who would rather play in the sandbox than scrub in the tub, but it all comes down to parental modeling. As unreal as The Real Housewives of Orange County can be, last night's episode raises an interesting question: can stricter parents be better? Housewife Lynne complains that she can't get her daughter Alexa to do what she says — in this case, showing up for an appointment with a "youthologist" designed to help motivate her.
Alexa tells her mom that she skipped the appointment because she was hungover.

When did cursing go from four letter words and those with a token five to half of the dictionary? Words like "crap" and "sucks" always teetered on the thin line between appropriate language and swearing for some, but now it seems that everything is a bad word. "Oh, my gosh," "heck," and "whatever" are off limits in lots of households as are "stupid," "dumb," and "butt."

Yesterday my friend and I went downtown to take our children to the museum and for lunch. While enjoying our meals, I gazed out the window and saw a nanny with a preschool-aged boy and an infant. It appeared that the boy needed to use a restroom, but rather than seek one out (including the possibility of using the one at the restaurant we were seated in), she had him unzip his pants and pee right on a parking meter in the middle of a busy city street – like a dog.

How clean is clean enough? We wash our baby's clothes in special detergents, sanitize their toys with kid-friendly cleaning supplies and try our best to keep their nurseries free from outside germs. When it comes to cleaning baby bottles and pump equipment many mamas opt for a double cleaning – first washing the items in warm soapy water and then sterilizing them in either the dishwasher or special sterilizing machines.
