Paris Fashion Week, A/W 2009: Balmain

Christophe Decarnin stuck with a tried and tested approach for his Autumn 2009 line which was shown at Paris Fashion Week yesterday. Working with his by-now signature rock'n'roll glam look, this collection included uber-short minis, body con shapes and a fair amount of sequins. He also continued the penchant for exaggerated shoulders, in fact, they were so extreme that two models nearly became gridlocked on the catwalk! There was a very familiar feel to the garments which are sure to attract party girls all over the globe.

Decarnin added sex appeal with slit front harem pants, fetishistic boots and revealing gowns, which are likely to be a red carpet hit. He is widely celebrated for breathing life in to Balmain, but this season questions are raised as to whether he needs to move the brand on even more. Best of 2008: Fabulous Fashion Week Shows

2008 spawned a tremendous flurry of fabulous Fashion Week shows. Let's see, there were New York Fall and Spring shows, Milan Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, London Fashion Week, and LA Fashion Week. Oh, and don't forget all of the ravishing Resort and Pre-Fall collections. Some of my faves were Proenza Schouler's Fall line, Alexander Wang's Spring offerings, and Balmain's Spring collection in Paris. All different, all divine. Which were your favorites? Runway Hair Gone Wild

It wouldn't be the runway without some dramatically wild looks. After all, fashion shows are meant to showcase avant-garde style. All this week, models have been strutting their stuff during Spring 2009 Fashion Week in Paris, and I've put together a collection of some of the most extreme hairstyles thus far. While most of these looks aren't for everyday wear, they're sure fun to see - or not see, in the case of Maison Martin Margiela.

Paris Fashion Week, A/W 2009: Miu Miu

Paris Fashion Week closed with a bang on Thursday with presentations by Louis Vuitton and Miu Miu. The younger sister of Prada seemed to come of age this season with an exotic themed collection. There was a very glamorous feel to the Autumn line with sleek silhouettes, pencil skirts and sparkly embellishment. Tapestry like prints dominated the show with plunging necklines and soft tailoring.

Generally hemlines were below the knee or calf length teamed with elegant heels or patent ankle boots. The footwear really stole the show (as always) as ankle strap, zip back heels cemented their place on the fashion radar. Bejeweled tights were also prominent offering a key accessory trend for the cooler months.

Aside from exposed bras, this season saw Miu Miu unveil a new elegance bringing timeless dresses in to the contemporary age with embellishment, prints and carefully draped fabric.

Which Milla Jovovich PFW Look Do You Like Best?

Model and Mum Milla Jovovich has had a busy week in Paris. She has attended enough shows to tire even the biggest fashion editors and has had a killer wardrobe throughout. She was one of the best dressed at Dior where she sat alongside Charlize Theron and Eva Green and was also spotted front row at Chanel, Nina Ricci, YSL and John Galliano. Milla also partied with Roberto Cavalli at his Paris store opening. Out of all of her outfits, which do you think is the most fab?

Paris Fashion Week, A/W 2009: Chloe

Hannah Macgibbon took Chloe back to it's classic roots for Autumn 2009 picking up where Phoebe Philo left off. This was her second collection for the French design house which has been a bit rocky over the past few seasons with many changes at the top. There was plenty of soft tailoring on show with oversized boyfriend blazers, and baggy trousers.

There was a calm colour palette with neutral tones and muted khaki. This emphasised the casual, loose fitting fabrics and the soft pleats. The baggy trousers with turn ups are sure to be popular and incredibly wearable.

Accessories were key from tiny box clutch bags to oversized handbags, along with over the knee pirate boots and lace up ankle shoots. It was great to see Macgibbon getting the design house back on track, but I hope her next collection takes the next step in bringing the soft Philo-esque designs in to the contemporary times.

Paris Fashion Week, A/W 2009: Alexander McQueen

Whilst many designers are playing it safe this year in order to remain commercial, but you can rely on Alexander McQueen to go to the other extreme and bring a bit of drama to Paris. He deliberately defied the credit crunch explaining to WWD, “This [economic] crisis isn’t my fault. I have to be who I am. This is hard. It’s old McQueen, aggressive McQueen. In this business, you have to be aggressive and have aggressive feelings.”

His autumn collection is sure to leave people divided (Fab US wants to know if you think it's freaky or fabulous) but I applaud his loyalty to his own creativity. The show took place around the debris of McQueen's previous shows and began with classic houndstooth designs, which could be interpreted as a dig at his previous employer; Givenchy.

He ruffled a few feathers with Hitchcock inspired pieces and bird print dresses. Then he got surreal wearing skirts as jackets, jackets as skirts, and lampshades and umbrellas as headwear.

The designer used a vast range of materials to create the pieces from goat-hair to plasticised raffia, from organza to photographic snake print, mixed with more classic textures like chiffon and silk. Shoes once again caused an issue as models were frightened to take each step. What do you think of McQueen's creations?

Paris Fashion Week, A/W 2009: Chanel

Chanel is always the collection I look forward to. I'm intrigued as to how Karl Lagerfeld will once again interpret trends in a very classic, chic way. This season he was inspired by Beau Brummell, who is widely credited with inventing the modern man's suit. His style was interpreted with suits, little black dresses and double breasted jackets all adorned with lace applique and teamed with flat boater hats. Lagerfeld mainly drew from a monochrome palette with shots of pink and green detailing and knitwear.

There was a lot of celebrity support as the likes of Claudia Schiffer, Freida Pinto and Lily Allen sat front row (vote on the best dressed here). None caused quite as much fuss as Kate Moss though who took her seat between Jamie Hince and Mario Testino whilst the photographers almost ruined the catwalk scrambling to get a shot of her.

Paris Fashion Week, A/W 2009: Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney is famous for her tailoring and her laid-back cool approach to fashion. This season was no exception as she presented her Autumn line in Paris yesterday to a star-studded front row. One of the best thing about Stella's designs is that they're wearable, sexy but yet still comfortable which was shown through slinky bubble mini dresses. For this partywear she combined silk and sheer fabric for a fun thigh skimming look.

There are never any animal products in her collection so she added texture with loopstitch wool coats that looked cosy enough to snuggle up in and a non leather sheen cupro biker jacket.

Tailoring came in the shape of her signature boyfriend jackets with long lapels teamed with leggings or ankle grazer trousers. Accessories included thigh-high knitted silk or perforated faux-leather boots, skin tight ankle boots and elbow length gloves.

Paris Fashion Week, A/W 2009: Weekend Round Up
