Another Reason to Get More Sleep: Performance

Your lack of sleep could be affecting your performance at the gym...

The amount of sleep a person gets affects his or her physical health, emotional well-being, mental abilities, productivity and now performance too. Studies have associated lack of sleep with serious health problems such as an increased risk of depression, obesity, cardiovascular disease and Type 2 diabetes.

According to new research presented at SLEEP 2007, athletes who get an extra amount of sleep are more likely to improve their performance in a game including faster sprint time and increased free-throws. Furthermore, athletes also reported increased energy and improved mood during practices and games, as well as a decreased level of fatigue.

What does this mean to you? Well, get more sleep, even if you're not an athlete. If you're overtired, you may not get as much out of your exercise routine as you should. Besides, no one ever said, "Gosh, I am too rested to workout today", now did she?

Fit's Tip: It is recommended that adults get between seven and eight hours of sleep each night. Don't have time? Then at the very least, try to fit in a nap during the day. Work isn't the issue, being a mom is? Then ask your husband to help you sleep an hour more tomorrow morning.

Which Was Your Fave John & Edward X Factor Performance?

So, you finally voted John & Edward out of The X Factor, but - good or bad - one thing I don't think you can deny is that they were incredibly entertaining over the final live shows. Out of all of the acts they certainly had the most choreography and biggest stage shows, possibly to make up for their less than perfect pitch, but the boys worked hard. Leona, Mark And Josh Entertain The Royals With Variety

The bill for this year's Royal Variety Performance included Leona Lewis, Take That, Jimmy Carr and gorgeous Josh Hartnett, and was filmed last night at the London Palladium. Before he headed out to Soho Josh appeared on stage in front of Prince Charles in the annual show which also included Rihanna, the Pussycat Dolls, Josh Groban and Duffy on the bill. The performance will be aired on December 17 on BBC1, but until then here's a sneak peek at gorgeous Josh and Mark Owen in their all-black suits as well as glimpses of some of the other performers from last night as they left the Palladium. I can't wait to see the show!

Do You Agree With the Uproar Around Adam's AMA Performance?

Of all the outrageous performances at Sunday's American Music Awards, it's American Idol's Adam Lambert who caused the biggest stir. His appearance, which was aired at the end of the show near 11 p.m., involved Adam pulling a dancer's face towards his crotch region and kissing the keyboard player. It apparently prompted over a thousand complaints and was edited for the West Coast broadcast. Adam's scheduled appearance on ABC's Good Morning America tomorrow was cancelled as a result, a decision Adam took issue with today on Ryan Seacrest. He's instead bound for CBS's The Early Show. Adam seems to be handling all the pressure, though all the hype is perfectly timed to drum up press for his new album. So, tell us - do you understand the uproar around Adam's performance?

Girls and Guys Get Glam For the American Music Awards!

The American Music Awards took place last night in Los Angeles, celebrating the best in US music from the past 12 months! Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night, dominating the female categories and getting gongs for favourite artist in both pop and country categories as well as beating Michael Jackson to the huge award - Artist of the Year. Taylor's in London at the moment and missed the ceremony, but Michael's family Jermaine and Janet were at the ceremony and picked up the late singer's four awards.

Country act Gloriana were shocked to beat Lady GaGa to Breakthrough Artist award, while Twilight picked up yet another award for Favourite Soundtrack. Performers included Whitney Houston, Jay-Z, Black Eyed Peas, Shakira, Rihanna, Lady GaGa as well as a performance by Adam Lambert that's got everyone talking - see why under the cut!
