Beauty Byte: Pete Wentz Is Really Into Hair

Ashlee Simpson's red hair has earned her fair share of attention, but it's her boyfriend Pete Wentz who's leaping into the salon business. The guyliner king is opening his own salon in Chicago.

Like his casual clothing line, the punk-themed space will be called Clandestine Industries. Lead stylist Ben Mollin, who you might remember from his stint on Shear Genius, will deliver hipster cuts for men and women. No word on whether we can expect to hear lots of Fall Out Boy or Pete's old band on the stereo system, but I imagine the mall-punk brigade is going nuts right now.

Gossip Girl Gang Gather For American Eagle Event

A handful of those Gossip Girl cast were out at an American Eagle event in New York's Times Square last night. Leighton Meester was wearing a daring dress and some striking makeup - what do you think? - and she hung out with Michelle Trachtenberg who showed off her flawless pale skin with her hair pulled back! Jessica Szhor looked great in grey, and Leighton's man Sebastian Stan wore a scarf to ward off the chilly weather - perhaps he gave it to Leighton later in the evening! Other guests included Pete Wentz and Adrian Grenier.

Ashlee, Pete, and Bronx Keep Trucking Along

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson brought Bronx along yesterday for a family trip to a CVS in LA. Bronx looked excited to get home and play with his new toy truck, which Pete handled as the trio made their way to the car. Ashlee coordinated her all-black outfit with her new dark hair, which she's free to alter now that she's off Melrose Place - though we're going to see a whole lot more of her in some saucy scenes still to air this season. There are whispers that Ashlee might be Broadway bound to reprise her role in Chicago, but for now she and Pete are all about fun California times with Bronx.

Do, Dump, or Marry? Pete Wentz

During Fall Out Boy's Madison Square Garden concert over the weekend, Pete Wentz officially laid down the flat iron and sounded the death knell heard 'round high schools everywhere: "This is the death of the Emo haircut," he proclaimed, before Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus shaved off the stick-straight strands that have been his trademark for a while.

Some find the singer and husband of Ashlee hot because of his hair, others in spite of it. Regardless of what his head looks like now, what about the man underneath the mop?

Beauty Byte: Pete Wentz to Launch Makeup Line

Who would have thought that emo heartthrob Pete Wentz would become such a beauty-industry mogul? He's already announced his plan to open a salon in Chicago, and now the king of guyliner is branching out into cosmetics. He's about to launch a collection of five vegan, punk-themed pencil eyeliners called WentzPentz. Pete said:

"Fall Out Boy has always been known for its pop hooks and good looks, and like David Bowie before me, I am known for my displays of cosmetic derring-do. For too long, I've been keeping my eyeliner know-how to myself. Now, with the debut of WentzPentz, guys - and girls - everywhere will be able to have a piece of the Fall Out Boy lifestyle."

Sold individually, WentzPentz eyeliners will retail for $3.99 each at Hot Topic. They'll be available in five shades, each inspired by Pete's childhood in the Chicago area:

In addition, Pete plans to partner with Ken Paves to design his own line of clip-on hair extensions for men. "Jess [Simpson] has had great success with hers," he said. "I hope to get Hair Dude up and running by late 2008."

Update: Since Pete's "makeup collection" is amazingly being reported as fact by the Chicago RedEye and other publications, now seems a good time to emphasize that this was an April Fool's Joke. (Click the "he said" link above.)

Pete Is Mad For Plaid and His Baby Bronx

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz coordinated their plaids for a rare night out at LA's Chateau Marmont on Friday, and yesterday Pete got his hair done at the salon. He's been busy promoting the new Fall Out Boy album and preparing to host the Australian MTV Awards at the end of March, and he recently found time to chat about both his band and his most important project of all - fatherhood. Here's more:

On sharing the spotlight: "My recurring nightmare is finding that Johnny Depp has joined our band. Don’t get me wrong, I love the guy’s work. But imagine being in a band with someone who’s a million times better-looking and charming than yourself. I wouldn’t stand a chance. Same goes for Barack Obama. How could I say no if he wanted to join the band? Maybe he could do some dancing at the side of the stage. That would be cool."
On Bronx: "Until I became a dad I never knew peace of mind. In the past my brain would never stop. Now I’m a father the world no longer revolves around me. When I’m with Bronx, he’s got my complete attention. He’s the only thing that occupies my thoughts. It fascinates me to speculate on what he’s thinking and feeling at any given moment. I also love to speculate about what kind of man he’s going to become. He could be another Neil Armstrong or Christopher Columbus. Who is he going to fall in love with? What’s his hair going to be like when he’s 15? Then, while I’m fantasizing about all this stuff, he’ll go to put his hand in his mouth and end up smacking himself in the eye. He’s the single greatest achievement of my life."
On how he and Ashlee get their son to sleep: "To get our son to sleep we play him Bob Dylan’s 'You Belong To Me.' Or a little Sinatra. My boy’s probably the last person in the world to appreciate my singing voice. Although I wrote a lullaby especially for him - you’ll find it on our new album if you look hard enough - it’s a hidden track. We had so much fun doing it I’m going to put out an album of songs for children. "

Pete might not want the president to join Fall Out Boy, but he naturally also has an opinion on the new first dog. He's never one to be short for words, but it seems like baby Bronx has opened up a whole new well of inspiration in his father.

It Was Another Slimy Kids' Choice Awards

After showing off their looks on the orange carpet, the stars got down to the real fun at the Kids' Choice Awards on Saturday night. Miley Cyrus was the night's biggest winner taking home the awards for Favorite TV Actress and Favorite Female Singer, but she managed to avoid being slimed. Orlando Bloom was not as lucky as he got the night's biggest sliming honor. Rihanna kept herself dry with her umbrella-ella-ella while her co-presenter Brendan Fraser got some of the sticky green stuff all over himself. Love seeing Shia and Harrison together on stage, but really, Mr. LaBeouf needs to figure out the hair - not good. Ashlee and Pete made fun of their mutual love of eyeliner while Cameron Diaz graduated from winning the burp contest to taking home the Wannabe award. Fun fun all around. Ashlee Simpson turned 24 on Friday, and Pete Wentz celebrated by taking her to see Wicked in LA on Saturday. The couple matched in Fall essential beanies, to go with Ashlee's unmistakable long red hair. While Ashlee's been in LA, Pete's been busy promoting his upcoming Fall Out Boy album in NYC and keeping us updated with his blog and Twitter. Pete also recently donated money to fight Proposition 8, proving that he's committed to making the world the type of place they want to raise their son.
