Phillip Lim Makes One of Six New Scents to Try Out

Last night's launch party for the limited-edition fragrance set Six Scents was rather memorable - and not only because I've never before witnessed performance art inspired by perfume. The bash was held to celebrate the collaboration between six designers and perfumers who got together to see what they could come up with by exploring "the relationship between artist and nature." Six was the theme of the evening, with an equal number of films, art pieces, and photographic works scattered about the studio space.

Phillip Lim, Henry Holland, Damir Doma, Henrik Vibskov, Richard Nicoll, and Toga, represented the fashion end. Mr. Holland, fresh from his recent show during London Fashion Week, kept an eye on the proceedings as host. Phillip Lim wasn't there, but I was especially interested in his first foray into the fragrance world.

He partnered with perfumer Natalie Gracia-Cetto, who said she was "inspired by Phillip’s unique and special style: easy to wear to go to work and stylish enough for a night out. It’s a fresh and sensual unisex fragrance that can be worn all day long." It includes notes of both white and black pepper, patchouli, cedarwood, and magnolia for an unusually heavy scent that isn't for the faint of heart. Check out more info at Six-Scents.com.

Trend Alert: Modern Navy

I've never been a huge fan of navy, but Ciara has me thinking twice. At the Originals by Originals Adidas launch in LA, the singer donned a modern navy cutout dress that exudes sleek style. Sizzle. You don't have to show skin - though I would - to exude this contemporary attitude, just focus on streamlined cuts, funky embellishments, and an avant-garde aesthetic. Hmmm, crisp cobalt also made a recent comeback. Could it be the return of blue? I think so . . .

I have a lot of female role models in my life. Of course, there's my mom, Carine Roitfeld, Michelle Obama, etc. Like tres tres chic, I also look up to famous aviator Amelia Earhart. Her tribute to the aviatrix includes a mix of sporty yet luxe vintage-inspired flight gear. I love all of the fur embellishments - pilots need to keep warm – and leather. I'm sure Amelia would appreciate that sumptuous Phillip Lim flight jacket, I sure do.

2010 Spring New York Fashion Week: Phillip Lim

When the runway is red and the invite has a threaded red stripe through it, does that promise a red-hot collection? When it's Phillip Lim it does. As expected, Lim's first couple looks were red - a lipstick-red double-breasted shirt jacket and roll-down waist pants, a slick red rain trench, red crystal sunglasses (have to have those). But Lim knows you can have too much of a good thing and quickly switched to cool gray knits and his favorite tomboyish shorts, cardis, and button downs.

Unordinary details like "illusion" bow fasteners, embellished belts, and collaged textures separated Lim from the rest. And then came the sparkle. Bronze and silver sequin panels on accordion pleat dresses and a straight-up silver sequin shirt dress surely sent front rowers Lauren Conrad and Leighton Meester's hearts aflutter. And the finale dress, on death-staring Karlie Kloss: ivory lace tiered "compilation" dress with abstract cubist sculptural organza appliqué. The mirrors at the entrance of the runway made Karlie appear to be strutting through the looking glass . . .

Trend Alert: Gorge(ous) Gloves

Gloves have a certain mystique. Then there's the upped glam factor when you slip into gorge(ous) gloves. Remember how screen sirens of yore seduced with their Hollywood waves and sexy satin gloves? It may be early Fall, but Lily Allen mixes things up in her black ruched gloves; with her dark shades she looks very incognito chic. The best part, depending on where you dwell: gloves are functional. Cold coziers start scoping out leather and cashmere; sun worshippers feast on lace and fingerless.

Check it, the reason I'm smitten with jewel embellished tees is that they're simultaneously fancy and kick-back. Yes, we talked about bejeweled necklines before, but putting statement baubles on comfy tees is totally fresh. The way I see it, you can spend the big bucks and buy one, or you can DIY. All you need is a simple tee, some gems from the local bead shop, and a little imagination. Done and done.

Trend Alert: Cool Cropped Khakis

Leave it to Rihanna to wear a sleek pair of cool cropped khakis to a business meeting in NYC - Rihanna does power dressing like no other. OK, so she's wearing a white crop top under, which could be considered unprofessional, but this is Rihanna we're talking about. This ensemb even contains a nautical nod. Sigh.These pants aren't overly trendy, and can be carried into cooler months with smart layers and cozy knits. Heels are a must for a more professional presentation, while exotic sandals take it to foreign territory. I know I've convinced myself to get a pair, have I convinced you?

The blond actress attended the Melrose Place premiere party wearing a sparking navy one-sleeved mastepiece. It's glitzy, but not overly so. Sienna and Anna Present The September Issue Together

Anna Wintour and Sienna Miller hit the red carpet together at the premiere of The September Issue at the MoMA in NYC last night. The Vogue editor and the movie's featured cover model shared a few laughs as Anna hosted the designer-studded event. Diddy, Marc Jacobs and Renee Zellweger were among the big names who came out to support the movie, which centers around the making of the September 2007 Vogue featuring Sienna. The magazine world has changed a lot since then, but the mood seemed cheery as Anna becomes a big screen star and prepares for ad libbing her appearance on Letterman next Monday.
