London Fashion Week, Spring 2010: Twenty8Twelve

There has been a lot of hype surrounding the Twenty8Twelve catwalk shows since they began last season. Spring 2010 was no exception with an impressive front row boasting Anna Wintour, Alexa Chung (maybe she scored herself a future Vogue cover?), Pixie and Peaches Geldof and Leigh Lezark. Much like Topshop Unique, the soundtrack to this show was early '90s grunge and this was definitely reflected on the catwalk. The official inspiration list was pretty vast from modern artists like Willem de Kooning, to African street style photographs to the deep South. There were short shorts and crop tops revealing bare midriffs. Faded denim and scarves through the hair added to the all American vibe. Sienna literally jetted off after the show to make it to Broadway on time – what a commute!

Joe Cole and Carly Zucker Share Wedding Secrets and Photos

Joe Cole and Carly Zucker shared their wedding pictures and stories from the big day with Hello! magazine. The couple got married at Royal Hospital Chelsea at the weekend in front of family, friends and Joe's fellow footballers John Terry, Michael Carrick and Wayne Bridge. Carly shook off her Australian jungle style in favour of an Oscar de la Renta dress, and told Hello! how she influenced Joe's choice of a longer hairstyle! Here are the highlights:

Joe on his hair for the wedding: "I like it really short myself, so after the wedding I will be having my head shaved."
Joe on the location of the ceremony: "I play for Chelsea, we live in Chelsea – so it made sense to get married here."
Joe on what's important to him: "Marriage is important, children and family they are the main things in life. All I am interested in is being a good husband, a good son, a good friend and a good father one day."
Carly on being a WAG: "I am offered projects all the time, but I don’t feel I need to prove anything, or that I need a career to feel good about myself. I tried it before with the personal training as well as running the house, and it just made me stressed and unhappy. It wasn’t good for me and it wasn’t good for Joe and his football. I am lucky enough to be in a position where I don’t have to work."

Joe on Carly: "I have always said Carly is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, but even I was surprised by how unbelievably stunning she looked. She was more beautiful than I have ever seen her."
Carly on giggling during the ceremony: "I am not a very serious person and it all felt a bit out of character."
Joe on his wedding ring: "I don’t generally wear jewellery so I wanted a ring that would mean something, so I have had my Nan’s plain gold wedding band altered to fit my finger. My Nan Pat died about four years ago of cancer. I was incredibly close to her and she lived with us after my granddad died. She loved football and was a great motivation to me – as was all my family. She saw me play for England but I wish she had been around for the last five years when I have been at the top of my game. It will mean a lot to have her wedding ring on my finger when I am getting married."

Kristen Stewart Shares A Smile And Settles In To Her New Style

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning have been working hard over the weekend at a Hollywood studio on their new movie The Runaways. Kristen's undergone quite a hair makeover for her role as Joan Jett, first hiding the new mullet style under her hood, before looking rather unhappy while out and about. This weekend, however, she seemed to feel a little more comfortable with it, offering a smile and a wave to photographers as she left the studio, her costar Dakota following behind shortly afterwards. It's great to see her in such high spirits, and with rumours still flying that she and Robert Pattinson's romance may be as present off screen as in the Twilight movies, she could have a lot to smile about!

Love It or Hate It: Lily Allen's Round Bob

Last night in London, Lily Allen performed a concert at the Shepherds Bush Empire, with a brand-new, cropped and rounded bob. Her fringe is heavy in the front and the sides are layered to frame her face. Lily's been super adventurous with her hair lately, and in the past year alone we've seen her go from long and pink to shorter and choppier, to ultralong extensions and then back to short and layered again. This cut however, is quite mature and styled. What are your thoughts about this look on Lily?

Beauty Glossary: 20's Slicked-back Hair

While girls wore their hair in cute bobs or wavy flapper girl style, mens hair in the 1920's was super simple. Hair was slicked back with gel for a formal look that was thought to be both masculine and also elegant. Think of The Great Gatsby or the new Brideshead Revisited film and you get the picture.

Using an early form of gel, called brilliantine, hair was generally slicked straight back and kept short on the sides. The top layers were left longer, but they were combed back and greased with tonic to provide a sophisticated look. Alternatively, the hair had a slightly off-side parting and was slicked back and to the side for a distinguished appearance that is probably what springs to mind when most people think of the roaring 20's.

This masculine look inspired the most fashionable women's styles of the times too. Compared to the poufy big hair dos of the 1900's the 20's was all about slick bobs and boyish hair. If the catwalks are anything to go by, then this masculine 20's style hair is going to be big news for next spring for both the girls and the boys. Think of the slicked back hair at the Jean Paul Gaultier and Karl Lagerfeld shows this week in Paris, while London Fashion Week gave us the quintessential 20s hair look at Temperley. Seems like we're looking back to the future for next season.

Bella Interview: Kristin Ess, Part II

I recently had the chance to talk with Kristin Ess, a stylist at Warren-Tricomi salon in Los Angeles. (That's her in black, with models whose hair she styled.) Yesterday, I posted the first part of the interview, in which she talks about how she got started. Today, find out what she thinks about the lifespan of the bob, working on top fashion shows, and how she'd make over Britney's hair.

I know bobs have been big, but is there any hairstyle that you think is fresh - something that regular women can wear?
Some people think the Posh bob is fabulous, but a lot of people are growing it out right now. So it's a matter of customizing that cut to each person. Two people, even if they look completely different, can look great with that bob, but the grow-out period is very different. We're doing a lot of customizing with the grow-out process right now. Some people are styling it wavy, some people want to keep it short. That is definitely the haircut of the moment right now. There are still people coming in to get it.

Really? That surprises me.
They were too scared to do it in the beginning. This is definitely one of those "Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama" haircuts that's going to stick around for two years. We haven't had anything that exciting for a while. Everything has just been long hair, really pretty hair - which is exciting in its own way. But this is the first in a while to be a haircut phenomenon. That's definitely one that sticks out to me right now.

Do you have a favorite way of doing hair - runway, editorial, red carpet, or every day?
I just like styling hair! [Laughs.] I get a total rush when we're backstage and there are 30 models, and I have 10 hairdressers with me, and we have two hours. It's go, go, go!, and there's hair flying everywhere. It's crazy, but it's so much fun. It's equally as fun to be on a shoot - you're sitting there and everything looks great, but then you see the actual photo on screen, and it's like magic. Red carpet is also great. Like when you see your client in Us Weekly voted for best beauty that week, it's a great feeling. They're equally good feelings, just very different. I can't pick a favorite, really.

I know you've worked with a lot of celebrities. Theoretically, if Britney came in with her extensions, what would you suggest doing with her hair?
You know, honestly, every time I see a picture of her, I don't understand why they keep putting in these extensions. I really thought from the day after she cut her hair, she'd be the cutest thing ever if she had a short, little haircut.

I totally agree.
A little Mia Farrow kind of haircut. And look how how short hair is right now! She's got some serious issues even without the extensions, but she's got that cute, little round face. There's no reason she couldn't pull off short hair. It would be amazing.

Is there any other celebrity you'd jump at the chance to work with?
Dita. It's so funny because there have been so many situations where they're like, her publicist called and they want to work with you. But there's always been something in the way. I'm so waiting for it to happen. She's the one that I haven't worked with that I really want to work with. She's amazing.

A Few Fab Words With Emmanuelle Chriqui

Soon, we'll see her on the silver screen with Beyonce in Cadillac Records. And, Sugar had a chat with her this week! What's she like? Sweet, friendly, very at ease - and totally adorable. Everyone loved it. So I have to ask you, you look so confident on the red carpet, what is your secret?

Really? That’s so nice! What is my secret? Getting ready for the red carpet is all smoke and mirrors. You’ve got your stylist, your hair person, your makeup person, and a team of people that are going to make you look the best that they know how to make you. I think when you feel good it makes you more confident, but I used to really dread the whole press part of this business because I think it is really intense and sometimes it's just really scary.

People are so judgmental and often times publications will be like “What’s your secret to staying fit?” and you just kind of want to get it out there that you don’t obsess about these things. I think it is important for young people to not obsess about these things and realize that I have help; it's not like you wake up fabulous, come on, that just doesn’t happen. But I think for me, as far as your red carpet day (because it really tugs on your energy) I’m always just super zen when I am getting ready. Candles are lit, music is on, I create a really peaceful atmosphere and sort of prep myself to go out into the craziness. I don’t like to be rushed, I am very clear about what I want the look to be, and it's just really being focused. I think it's just also part of who I am as an actress, I like to be prepared, if I am going to go out and present myself, I just want to be prepared. So if that comes off as confidence, that is a wonderful thing, but for me if I don’t get prepared I am a wreck.

What was your last big shopping splurge?

I think it was shoes. One of my closest friends is the designer Lotta Stensson on Melrose and I’ll just go into her shop and have fun. I bought an amazing bikini, a couple dresses and jewelry and just fun stuff.

Cool, and what were the shoes?

Did you see pictures from the Iron Man premiere? In the white dress I had these amazing silver shoes. I swear, I made the best discovery on the entire planet, it's this shoe store called Xtc on Melrose. I like super high heels because I’m short, number one, and my least favorite part of me are my legs so the higher the heels the nicer your legs look. They make these super high heels and have built them with padding in the front. They are so comfortable I cannot explain, whenever I need a shoe now I just go there. Unless someone lends me some, like for the New York premiere I wore Jimmy Choos, which were fabulous, but if I am going to buy a pair of shoes I’m going to go for fabulous comfort. They are amazing, you really have to check it out.

Good! It’s a great little shoe store and I have been super lucky every time I go.

I was wondering, whose style do you admire?

Kate Hudson has amazing style. When she goes on the red carpet she always wears something unique and colorful and kind of bohemian in a way. I feel like she always does something different, which I really really like. But you know I’m not a very conservative person, sometimes there is that look to look really covered up and it doesn’t really suit me. If it is for a character that is one thing, but if I am going to go on the red carpet that is not my cup of tea, so I really love how she looks. You know who else has amazing style? Joy Bryant, I mean she is gorgeous and her body is retarded, she’s like tall and long, it always looks effortless and I love that.

What do you like or don’t like about Sloan's style on Entourage? Is it similar to your style at all?

It definitely can be, it is similar to my style if I am going to get really ready, yes, but she is really ready all the time. You never see Sloan just hanging out in jeans and a T-shirt, it just doesn’t seem to be her thing, whereas I am a jeans, boots, T-shirt girl. When I get dressed up yeah, I think we have similar style.

How has your personal style evolved?

I think it has evolved because it is the nature of the business. I am not a designer whore, I don’t care who I am wearing, if it fits well then I am happy. My personal style has evolved because I am much more familiar with designers now, and I can actually say oh I really like this brand because I know how they make it and I know how it fits me. It's just kind of opened up a lot more, but it is still kind of the same, I really don’t care who I am wearing as long as it looks exactly how I want it to look.

Who are your go-to designers right now?

Yigal Azrouel - I love the material, love it.

He just showed his Resort collection and it is gorgeous.

I don’t doubt it! I went and got a bunch of stuff when I was in New York that I swear I lived in. I just love the material, it is so yummy. It’s funny because I am still learning a lot. I am working with this stylist right now that I worked with for the LA and New York premieres, and she is amazing. She completely gets me. Her name is Brit Bardo, and she actually styled Kate Hudson which was so random, and she came to us. I looked at her website and was like “get out!” I can’t believe this is the stylist! I was always looking at these people and pointing that out and that’s the stylist! So she just really gets me. Through her I am being introduced to so many new designers, like I never knew who Amanda Wakeley was, but that dress from the LA premiere was sick! I loved it. I am also a huge Ingwa:Melero fan. I still wear them all the time. It’s one of those things where I know that it fits my body, it's easy and not a hassle. And the bigger designer stuff, but again it just depends on the event, but I really like Badgley Mischka? I'd love a gown of theirs.

Love It or Hate It? Lily's Sleek Chic

Lily Allen looked super chic at the Groucho nightclub last night in London. The singer wore thick dark black hair extensions to give her mane a full, sexy look. It's a far cry from the short quirky style we saw her sporting recently. Lily straightened her fringe too for a sleek effect that is certainly very feminine.

I like how Lily has complemented her newly sophisticated hair style with dark liquid eyeliner and glowing skin. Her nude lip gloss is on-trend for this season too. How about you, what's your opinion of her look?
