I went to work like this and thought I would share. Nothing spectacular but I wanted to show you guys my favorite red lipstick. If you want a bold red lipstick that screams LOOK AT ME, definitely try this on. You instantly feel sexy and made up even if you have little makeup on.

This is a true retro red. Be forewarned that this is a very, very matte lipstick. I love that about Ruby Woo, although I am sure some of you guys don't like mattes. There are some benefits of it being so matte: absolutely no feathering and it lasts forever! I can literally eat and I will only need a light touchup. Some might find it a touch drying, so keep your balm nearby or you can apply a balm underneath. Of course you can add a gloss, but I just love the matte finish. If you are ready for a true blue red that'll have heads turning, run to a MAC counter now!

The Look For Less: Violette's Colorful Safety Pins

When I first learned about the existence of colorful safety pins, I jumped for joy so high that had I been holding a safety pin in my hand, I would have poked my eye out. No, but seriously, besides it being pretty, it's also really useful. What I didn't jump for joy over is the price ($14 for 36 pins). Why pay more when you can pay less?

I was perusing the aisles of Walgreens when I discovered these Singer Metallic-Coated Safety Pins ($3 for $35). Imagine my excitement. I know it's limited to red, green, blue, and purple, and it doesn't have the fancy schmancy pin-up girl container, but considering the low price, that's A-OK.

Here's yet another time when I say to myself: Why didn't I think of that? Regular silver or gold safety pins are useful, but what about those times when you're not wearing silver or gold? Violette's Pin-Up's Safety Pins ($14 for 36 pins) have answered my question. There are black pins for LBDs, white for brides, ivory for those in ivory, and colored for a gal who's not afraid to wear brights. No offense to silver and gold safety pins, but these are way cooler.

Think you need to strip to your lacy underthings to be a pin-up girl? Think again. At Carolina Herrera and Donna Karan, hair pins transformed basic hairstyles into something fresh and innovative. And best of all, trying this runway look doesn't cost much money - just a couple of bucks for hair pins, and you're good to go. Arrange them in angular groups as Orlando Pita did at Carolina Herrera, or space them out to create the illusion of movement as seen at Donna Karan. Finally, when it comes to "business in the front, party in the back," we no longer need to think of mullets.

RIP, Pinup Queen, Bettie Page

Alas, another legend has passed. If you're a Dita von Teese fan, make sure to pay homage to the original pinup queen, Bettie Page. She lived to be 85 and passed away yesterday in LA. She broke the rules in the '50s. She had a hand in the exploration of female sexuality, creating a liberated character in risque lingerie and skimpy bikinis - not too mention taboo toys like whips and eye masks. Here's to you, Miss Bettie.

Sounds like a cheesy good time, no? I rounded up some friends to check it out, and asked you to dress me up according to the groovy theme. At last night's amfAR fund-raising event in Milan, stars showed up to help stir up cash for AIDS research. And while everyone was no doubt looking forward to a HIV-free future, two women looked to the past for their retro style. Dita Von Teese dazzled in her trademark '50s-style pinup glamour, whereas Linda Evangelista looked like a sophisticated '30s film star. As Dita tweeted, the event raised $1.1 million dollars - a huge success. Of these two vintage-styled beauties, whose look do you prefer?
