The Christmas season is a great time to clear out your wardrobe but which trend items of 2008 will you carry through to 2009? I asked you which on trend item was your favourite this year and you voted for the plaid shirt. Worn by the likes of Lauren Conrad and Kimberly Stewart the shirt looks great with jeans for a casual daytime look. Gladiator sandals were your second favourite trend item.

Coleen McLoughlin is currently busy presenting her own ITV2 show Real Women in which she attempts to get 'real women' in to modelling and advertising campaigns.

However, she still has plenty of time to keep the shops of Liverpool in business! Coleen was spotted today shopping in a funky pink and grey plaid shirt holding an oversized black Fendi bag. She also has a shopping bag from United Colours of Benetton. What do you think of her look?

Trend Alert: Plaid Shirts

Plaid shirts (aka tartan) are all the rage this Autumn/Winter. They're warm, comfortable and they look terrific with skinny jeans or cords. Celebrities such as Lauren Conrad from MTV's hit show The Hills has been spotted in three different plaid tops this season alone. There's the turquoise one, the red one and my personal fave, this blue and black cozy flannel. Below are a few tartan tops that I have been eyeing, look them over and let me know which ones you like best.

Hey Duuuuddde. Hey Dude was one of my favorite Nickelodeon shows in the early '90s. Melody, Brad, Ted, and Danny made rancher life look so cool. Their style was functional yet stylish - bandanas, plaid, polo shirts, denim - and I loved how Melody always wore cute jewelry and hair clips with her cowboy gear. Giddy up!

The reality starlet shopped on Melrose wearing an Elizabeth and James plaid shirt, black skinny jeans, and Louboutin pumps. Ray Ban Wayfarers shielded her from the paps, while her Alexander Wang bag stashed all her cash. Her look is a testament to the fact that simplicity can have a major impact.

Justin Stays in the Network Frame of Mind

Justin Timberlake held on tightly to his script yesterday as he arrived for another afternoon on the LA set of The Social Network. He came in a fedora and a plaid shirt, but it didn't take long before he was suited up to get into character as one of Facebook's founders. JT's stay in California has allowed him to have some quality time with Jessica Biel, even though she spent her Friday partying without him.

Penelope Finds Embraces All Around NYC

Penelope Cruz had a whirlwind weekend of promoting Broken Embraces in NYC. The Vogue cover girl stepped out in a black leather jacket on Friday and a striped shirt the next afternoon for errand-running, but by Saturday evening Penlope was decked out in a sparkly white gown to be honored at a dinner hosted by Paper magazine. Her late night didn't slow her down yesterday, when she did press in a plaid dress before switching into a gray gown for a premiere with director Pedro Almodovar. Her BFF Salma Hayek brought her husband Francois-Henri Pinault along to pose on the red carpet, though Penelope's own man Javier was off letting her shine in the spotlight solo as engagement rumors continue to circulate.

Liz Claiborne creative director Isaac Mizrahi has taken his girls back to the streets. For Spring it was Georgina Stojiljković in the city; for Fall it's Coco Rocha in the country. The Canadian model looks so royal, so mature in her long pleated plaid skirt and plaid shirt. I'm especially taken by the vibrant autumnal hues. And look: Coco's super-red hair sort of matches the roofs of the houses. Equally dazzling in color is the shot of Coco in a grocery store (below). What do you make of Liz Claiborne's Fall ads?
