What's the Deal With: Pose Method of Running

We all know how to walk and we all know how to run, right? The answer according to Dr. Nicholas Romanov, developer of the Pose Running Technique, is a resounding "NO." Romanov feels that running is a skill that needs to be taught to create more efficient running, which leads to less injuries over time. Since running is a skill it can be refined over time using the Pose Method, which they say works for all types of runners since the technique is a series of movements that anyone and everyone can benefit from using.

Named the Pose method since it is based on the "Running Pose" - the shape the body assumes as it moves forward. Here's a description of the pose:

The Running Pose is a whole body pose, which vertically aligns shoulders, hips and ankles with the support leg, while standing on the ball of the foot. This creates an S-like shape of the body. The runner then changes the pose from one leg to the other by falling forward and allowing gravity to do the work. The support foot is pulled from the ground to allow the body to fall forward, while the other foot drops down freely, in a change of support.

Yep you run just primarily on the balls of the feet instead of the heel hitting the ground first.

The idea is to move forward with the least amount of energy, with a simple fall and pull while holding the runner's pose. The technique has been tested and proven to reduce the impact on the knee joint by 50 percent. I must say I am I am truly intrigued by this method and so are my knees.

Leaning the technique can take some time and many newcomers to the method suffer from sore calves. There are plenty of books on the subject available from the Pose Tech Store, and clinics in Austin, Texas as well as Switzerland and the U.K.

Rihanna Wakes Up Early For a Rated R Morning

Rihanna headed to NYC after her weekend appearance at the American Music Awards, where she wore an outrageous onstage outfit. She's touring the world to support her album Rated R, and she was at a Best Buy last night to autograph copies and even pose for photos with a few lucky fans. This morning was an early one for Rihanna, as she headed out to appear on Good Morning America. She first did a run-through in her black coat, before stripping down to her embellished white blazer to perform and chat with Robin Roberts - check out the video after the jump.

Stranger than Fiction: School Used Lap Dance Therapy

When you think of activities to help the emotional growth of teens with behavior troubles or special learning needs, lap dances would probably be the last thing you'd think of.

But that's exactly what the staff at Mount Bachelor Academy came up with, and they forced students to undergo lap dance therapy as a part of their "emotional growth" curriculum. The boarding school was shutdown after students accused the staff of employing this dubious therapy, and a seven-month state investigation has just confirmed the allegations.

According to the report, the school's "Lifesteps" seminars made students take on sexualized roles and perform in front of staff and students. One girl, who had been raped before going to the school, was forced to dress as a French maid and perform a lap dance. (Who thought this was a good idea?!)

Oregon's Department of Human Services says the school poses "a serious danger to child safety." Whenever I hear these horror stories about reform schools, I wonder: did anyone ever check to see if the people allowed to run them for so long needed some reform themselves?

Reality Check: Victoria Beckham Now Works Out Daily

When Victoria Beckham came out as a gym addict earlier this year, people were more than a bit incredulous. Well Posh's fitness routine is once again in the news. It seems she didn't feel her old regimen of running eight miles six times a week was enough to prepare her body for her recent Emporio Armani ads with hubby soccer-stud David, so she implemented daily workouts. The 35-year old said, "I wanted to look at those pictures in 20 years' time and say 'Wow, look - after three kids - I didn't look bad.'" Mrs. Beckham didn't want to rely on retouching either.

One would think posing in gorgeous undergarments would give a gal a boost of confidence, but friends close to the former Spice Girl revealed that their gal pal's "not the most confident of girls." Sources close to Victoria told Us Magazine that she has had three breast surgeries, two enhancements followed by a reduction done earlier this year. Considering her fame and hot hubbie, does her lack of self-confidence surprise you?

Stars From J Lo to Will Smith Honor MJ at This Is It LA Premiere

Michael Jackson's final masterpiece, This Is It hit theaters at midnight last night, with a star-studded LA premiere just a few hours earlier to celebrate. MJ's brothers Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Randy posed together to support the project while stars of stage and screen came together to honor the King of Pop. Will Smith doesn't do a ton of red carpets these days, but couldn't miss this one and NPH was dapper in black. Ashley Tisdale pulled her High School Musical costar Monique Coleman close while Adam Lambert and Katy Perry looked like two peas in a pod. Michael Jackson's last performance footage has done amazingly well in presales and he clearly has the love of all his celebrity fans and friends - including close pal Elizabeth Taylor - as it hits theaters for a special run.

Jennifer Lopez pouted for the camera after another weekend supporting the Dolphins in Miami. Paris Hilton went a little more risqué in her black ensemble while Tisdale paid homage to the man of the night with her vintage t-shirt. Paula Abdul was filled with emotion watching Michael up on the big screen. There will surely be a lot more reactions and praise as crowds flock to see MJ's famous moves in the peek at his preparations for his comeback concerts that never were able to be.

She struck a pose in black alongside fellow designer Eva Mendes, while Dita von Teese and Evan Rachel Wood apparently managed to avoid an awkward run-in. Gucci model James Franco took a break from his other Big Apple activities to smile for the cameras next to the house's designer, Frida Giannini, and Mary J. Blige. Mary and Frida were together earlier in the day to open the new Mary J. Blige Center For Women in Yonkers, and their charitable ways continued into the evening of celebrating the year's best fashionable good deeds.
