Jennifer Lopez Shocked by Posh's Chop

Jennifer Lopez has been really busy recently, what with the launch of her new perfume for men and partying at Milan Fashion Week. She's also revealed that she was stunned when she first saw her friend Victoria Beckham's new hair cut.

According to rumours, Jennifer has been saying she had no idea Posh was going to go for such a drastic change. According to Marie Claire, J-Lo admitted "I was so shocked. I arranged to meet up with her the day she had it done." It seems Posh had kept her hair plans a secret. J-Lo revealed "She didn't tell me what she was doing, so I turned up and there she was with this incredibly short black hair. I was knocked out!"

Jennifer, who isn't known for making drastic style changes, particularly in terms of her hair cut and colour was obviously impressed by Victoria's daring pixie cut. She added "I told her she looked like Audrey Hepburn. I think she's such a great girl."

Victoria Beckham's new gamine crop gives her a younger, sassier look that wowed the crowds at the Marc Jacobs show. Victoria loves to experiment with her hair and this spiky style looks gorgeous on her, partly because it was tailor-made to suit her face shape and body.

Victoria's new cut is the work of celebrity hairstylist Garren who apparently chopped Audrey Hepburn's iconic crop, as well as creating short looks for the likes of Linda Evangelista and Mia Farrow.

Jacqui Weaver, Creative Director at Fish salon in Soho, London advises "The crop best suits people with good strong cheekbones and small pixie-like features. Posh pulls this cut off as she has lovely high cheekbones and it enhances her swan-like neck."

Work with product to really show off the texture. A messed-up, dishevelled do generally looks younger and sexier.

Go Inside the Secret World of Hair Extensions

We see them on the heads of celebrities. We may even have them ourselves. But, when it comes down to it, do we really know where that hair comes from?

The March issue of Allure offers a story behind some of the most prized extensions, and it's not a pretty picture. More than 500 tons - yes, tons - of human hair come from Tirumala, a temple of the Vaishnava sect of Hinduism in southern India. Women grow their hair to their waists, then have their heads shaven as a symbol of religious devotion. After processing, that hair becomes extensions sold in posh salons in the United States.

Why do they have the hair? Since the ninth century, devout Hindus have visited the temple to pay respects to the resident deity through a procedure called tonsuring. This ritual head shaving is a gesture of devotion. By giving up their hair, they believe the god will then grant them any wish. Quite often, this is the first time that the hair, which has never been treated with anything harsher than coconut oil and herbal Ayurvedic soap, has been cut.

Where does the money go? After being cleaned and processed, the hair is sold at auction and the temple funds schools and medical centers with their portion of the profits . . after part of the proceeds go to the various parties involved from the extension makers to the distributors. This makes Tirumala one of the richest religious pilgrimage sites in the world, earning about $20.6 million annually. Their chief accounts officer says, "Our deity is now the richest deity in the world."

Do the women know? When asked by the reporter, many of the women did not know what happened to their sacrifice at Tirumala, and they certainly did not know of the high price their locks can fetch. (After all, $3,000 is more than triple the average yearly per capita income in India.) While most of the profits do go to the temple, it doesn't sit right with me that the devotees are kept in the dark about this multimillion-dollar industry.

It's never a dull moment when it comes to Victoria Beckham's style, and this morning she surprised us yet again with her daring hair accessory out and about in Milan. This time she mixed up her color coordination with a splash of red in her hair. It's only been six months since Posh debuted her pixie cut, but it looks like she might be on her way to growing it out again - she never sticks with one 'do for too long. While two of her designer friends, Armani and Dolce & Gabbana, are fighting over quilted pants, it doesn't seem like the Beckhams are caught too much in the crossfire, modeling for one and dining all over Milan with the others.

Nine Easy Tips to Recession-Proof Your Hair

It probably comes as no surprise that colorists are seeing their clients with longer stretches of time between appointments. Could it have a direct correlation with the sagging economy? Um, yeah! Fortunately, colorist Debi Dumas of Jim Wayne Salon in Beverly Hills shared a few ways to make your professional hair color last longer - and save a few bucks along the way.

Dumas, who has worked with the likes of Ali Landry, Robin Wright Penn, and Mischa Barton, says these days it's chic to save money. Even in posh Beverly Hills, she says, "people are looking at ways to cut back." For her tips on giving your color a boost without breaking the bank, read more.

Time is money. The more time booked out for your stylist, the more you'll pay for his or her time and products used. "Honesty is the first key," Debi says. Let your stylist know what you are able to pay and how often you'll be able to come in for color services.
Color only areas that show. Unless your hair is short or you're pulling it back in a way that would reveal roots, there is no reason to color the inside back of your hair. If you're going from a darker color to a lighter color (brown to blond), think about a getting a root touch-up only around your part and around the hairline. This "secret" could save you upwards of 50 percent!
Go multitonal. If you are getting highlights with one shade, ask your colorist to put several tones in. "It grows out more gently," Debi says. Creating more dimension in the hair will allow you to stretch out your time in between salon visits.
Get washed. If your roots aren't showing, but your color is looking dull (especially for redheads), get a color wash. It takes only about 15 minutes and runs about half of the cost. Your color will be brighter and refreshed.
Deep condition. "Moisture penetrates into your hair," Debi says. "That helps keep color from slipping out." To elongate time in between services, wrap a warm damp towel around your hair and let the conditioner work its magic.
Don't go too wild. "Stick with a color closest to your natural hair," Debi says. It might seem obvious, but it works.
Wash hair less often. The more you shampoo, the more chance you are allowing artificial pigments to lift out. Avoid chlorine and cheap shampoos and conditioners, which are too detergent-like and harsh.
Buy more, get more. Invest in larger sizes of professional products. "You'll save a tremendous amount if you buy the bigger ones," Debi says. Plus, most of the products are stabilized and are manufactured to last.
Get boxed in. If you cannot afford salon products, think about purchasing over-the-counter products from the same company. L'Oreal, for instance, has its professional line plus a drugstore variety.

Bella Interview: Kristin Ess, Part II

I recently had the chance to talk with Kristin Ess, a stylist at Warren-Tricomi salon in Los Angeles. (That's her in black, with models whose hair she styled.) Yesterday, I posted the first part of the interview, in which she talks about how she got started. Today, find out what she thinks about the lifespan of the bob, working on top fashion shows, and how she'd make over Britney's hair.

I know bobs have been big, but is there any hairstyle that you think is fresh - something that regular women can wear?
Some people think the Posh bob is fabulous, but a lot of people are growing it out right now. So it's a matter of customizing that cut to each person. Two people, even if they look completely different, can look great with that bob, but the grow-out period is very different. We're doing a lot of customizing with the grow-out process right now. Some people are styling it wavy, some people want to keep it short. That is definitely the haircut of the moment right now. There are still people coming in to get it.

Really? That surprises me.
They were too scared to do it in the beginning. This is definitely one of those "Reese Witherspoon in Sweet Home Alabama" haircuts that's going to stick around for two years. We haven't had anything that exciting for a while. Everything has just been long hair, really pretty hair - which is exciting in its own way. But this is the first in a while to be a haircut phenomenon. That's definitely one that sticks out to me right now.

Do you have a favorite way of doing hair - runway, editorial, red carpet, or every day?
I just like styling hair! [Laughs.] I get a total rush when we're backstage and there are 30 models, and I have 10 hairdressers with me, and we have two hours. It's go, go, go!, and there's hair flying everywhere. It's crazy, but it's so much fun. It's equally as fun to be on a shoot - you're sitting there and everything looks great, but then you see the actual photo on screen, and it's like magic. Red carpet is also great. Like when you see your client in Us Weekly voted for best beauty that week, it's a great feeling. They're equally good feelings, just very different. I can't pick a favorite, really.

I know you've worked with a lot of celebrities. Theoretically, if Britney came in with her extensions, what would you suggest doing with her hair?
You know, honestly, every time I see a picture of her, I don't understand why they keep putting in these extensions. I really thought from the day after she cut her hair, she'd be the cutest thing ever if she had a short, little haircut.

I totally agree.
A little Mia Farrow kind of haircut. And look how how short hair is right now! She's got some serious issues even without the extensions, but she's got that cute, little round face. There's no reason she couldn't pull off short hair. It would be amazing.

Is there any other celebrity you'd jump at the chance to work with?
Dita. It's so funny because there have been so many situations where they're like, her publicist called and they want to work with you. But there's always been something in the way. I'm so waiting for it to happen. She's the one that I haven't worked with that I really want to work with. She's amazing.

Posh Celebrates Jennifer Hudson and Talks Haircuts

After showing the love for Marc Jacobs at his Fashion Week show, Victoria Beckham cozied up to her designer friend at a party celebrating Jennifer Hudson's upcoming album last night. You're all loving her new super-short hair, and Posh is enjoying her new look too. She said, "I wanted to pull my hair back from my face and have always loved the idea of having a gamine crop. I spent a long time looking at the great fashion haircuts of the 90's and went to Garren, the master of those cuts, to create our modern interpretation of this look. I love it!" Product Review: Arezoo Ingrown Hair Cream

Arezoo Kaviani worked at posh Mayfair salon in London for years, where she had a constant client waiting list. After much success she decided to venture out on her own. She now owns a private salon kitty-corner to the world-famous Harrods department store. Her specialties are extremely gentle waxing and facials, but she is so talented that her one-stop shop also offers a gamut of alluring body treatments.

While in London, I had the pleasure of meeting Azeroo for a bikini wax - not an easy feat, considering her schedule is jam-packed with clients that include Gwyneth Paltrow, Claudia Schiffer, Daniel Craig, Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon. I was dying to ask her if Jake comes in for a manly parts waxing or just an eyebrow shaping, but I resisted - I didn't want to put her in a compromising position or anything.

The one product she used that smelled great and cut the pain of a wax by at least half was her tea tree oil wax. She also handed me an ice cube before she began to help numb the area -it's kinda fun, actually! When we were finished, she recommended a terrific anti-ingrown hair product that I want to share with you.

Arezoo Ingrown Hair Cream contains no alcohol, but it does have tons of tea tree oil. That acts as an antiseptic and drying agent, so those nasty, itchy bumps don't form on your nether regions. It smells better than most products in its genre, and it won't thin your skin like other alcohol-based ingrown hair products do.

The cream works wonders for anywhere on the body suffering from cuts, scrapes, burns, or blemishes. Plus, men can use it as an aftershave. It costs £15, but since Arezoo has so many international clients, she's willing to ship any orders for a minimum charge of $5.

Victoria is Confused

Now you see it, now you don't. Victoria Beckham just can't leave her hairdresser. She chopped her hair for what we thought was a reason to take a break from the extensions. Then she adds them back and now they are gone again. I guess it's better to change her hair as opposed to her men but who would give up Beckham? The couple are actually trying to get pregnant again. The petite Posh is supposedly planning to fatten up a bit since her tiny 23" waist needs to be a bit healthier. Maybe she cut her hair so she could figure out how much she weighs without all the fake extensions.
