Beauty Byte: Pout Cosmetics is Closing Down

Pout Cosmetics will be closing its doors at the end of the year. The fun, feminine playful and pink-packaged cosmetics company was founded in 2001 by three women: Anna Singh, Chantal Laren and Emily Cohen. Pout was bought nine months ago by venture capital group Crysallis.

The company was doing well in the UK and Europe, but US sales have been very weak. Since they weren't as profitable as hoped, the color (cosmetics) portion of the business will stop production. However, the fragrance, bath and body products will continue to stick around in retail stores.

If you're a fan of these cosmetics, you'll be pleased to find out that big sales are rumored to take place so that stockists can liquidate the line. So keep your eyes out for the chance to buy Pout products at a reduced price - which is nothing to pout about!

Beauty Glossary: Trout Pout

With the recent news that Keira Knightley has been voted 'best pout' in a poll, beating Kylie Minogue and Victoria Beckham to the top spot, I've been thinking about the downside to plumped-up lips; cruelly dubbed the 'trout pout'.

The term was first used in reference to '90's TV actress Leslie Ash who had collagen lip implants in 2003. The procedure went horribly wrong, giving her an unmistakably swollen and misshapen mouth. The British tabloids termed it a 'trout pout' and the phrase caught on, especially as at this time Lesley was on the box regularly, starring in a series of adverts for Homebase with ex-Men Behaving Badly co-star Neil Morrissey.

Leslie told the BBC at the time that she opted to have the lip implants because she wanted "to maintain a certain image...I know I never really needed it doing in other people's eyes, and that's a great compliment." The actress has since undergone corrective surgery, but to little avail.

While collagen implants have certainly come a long way in the last five years, the risk of 'trout pout' or of any aspects of the procedure going wrong, such as having an unexpected allergic reaction, like Leslie did, are still off putting in many people's minds.

The term is now widely used by the media to refer to any star who has had noticeable implants to increase their pout, particularly when the upper lip is boosted out of proportion to the lower lip. Brittany Murphy and Saffron Burrows have both been accused of having trout pouts, while last month French actress Emmanuelle Beart appeared to have gone over the top in having her lips augmented.

How To: Get Angelina Jolie's Oscars Night Makeup Look

It's been quite the red carpet transformation for Angelina Jolie. Where she once wore jet black vampire-ess hair extensions and harsh, goth makeup, last night she looked like the high profile celebrity, movie star and beauty icon that we've deemed her to be. She wore a gorgeous Elie Saab gown that she paired with beautiful emerald earrings and her hair was coloured a rich brown with touches of golden highlights. Celebrity makeup artist Mary Burton used Lancôme and Shu Uemura cosmetics to create her signature cat-eyes and timeless beauty look.

EYES: To make Angelina's eyes stand out, Mary used Le Crayon Khôl in Noir to her upper and lower lash lines. Next, she added even more eyeliner to the outer corners, to enhance the shape of Angelina’s eyes. Lastly she applied a few coats of Ôscillation Mascara to her upper lashes only.

CHEEKS: Mary decided not to overdo Angelina's face with a ton of bronzer or illuminator. Instead, she chose to let her natural radiance shine through and she added a little bit of Shu Uemura's Matte Pink 31 (a soft pink) to her cheekbones for warmth.

LIPS: Lastly, for a shiny and nude pout, Mary applied a generous amount of Juicy Tubes Lip Gloss in Spring Fling to Angelina's famously lush lips.

Fergie Was A Too Faced Bride

How exciting, we've just gotten a glimpse of the very first photographs from Fergie and Josh Duhamel's wedding! The best part of all is that the folks over at Too Faced Cosmetics have confirmed that the bride's wedding day makeup for her and her bridesmaids came straight from them by request.

In the weeks building up to the big day, we've seen Fergie exercising and taking special care of her skin. Boy did it pay off, because her body was tight, toned and her face was absolutely luminous.

Maybe Baby: The New New Face

While I think it's important to keep an open mind about cosmetic surgery – as far as I'm concerned it's a personal decision that everyone has to make for themselves – I was however, both intrigued and somewhat concerned to hear about the latest trend in facial surgery. Apparently women don't want that taunt, stretched-out, shrink-wrapped look that was so in vogue ten years ago (think how Cher's face looks; super-tight skin, plumped lips and a skinny nose). Instead they want what surgeon Dr. Frederic Brandt has become the purveyor of: Welcome to The New New Face.

According to the Observer Woman magazine Dr. Brandt, who has a number of well-known celebrity clients, specialises in what's known as the Y lift where filler is injected into the area just below the cheekbones. Instead of creating that old-fashioned, vacuum-packed look, this encourages a plumped-up youthful effect. Now it's all about having a face as round and chubby as a baby's with apple-shaped cheeks and plump, dewy skin.

Celebrities like Madonna and Demi Moore (no accusations of surgery, of course) epitomise the New New Face. Note the wide, smooth forehead plus big, wide eyes with no lines, a straight (not upturned) nose and full, slightly turned up lips (instead of a puffy trout pout); as well as unbelievably dewy, plumped-up cheeks. Fillers and injectables, which can help create that plumped-up look, are on the increase according to reports. In the US alone there has been a 754 percent increase in the number of non-surgical procedures done since 1997 compared to a 114 per cent increase in surgery.

How-To: Lauren Conrad's Hills' Finale Party Makeup

Face: Begin by using a creamy concealer around the eyes and on top of any red areas or blemishes. Next, take a little bit of foundation and dab it on the forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks. Blend well (especially along the jawline) using a sponge. Dust a little bit of setting powder to the skin as a final touch.
Cheeks: Begin by dusting the forehead, nose, and all around the hairline with a matte bronzer. Next, apply a sheer-pink powder blush such as Bobbi Brown Blush in Nectar to the apples of the cheeks, blending upward along the cheekbone.
Eyes: Getting Lauren's icy-hot eyes is easier than you think. The first step is applying a neutral shadow all over the lid. Next, use a black, slightly-shimmery shadow like Shu Uemura Pressed Iridescent Eye Shadow in Black; blend it starting right above your lashes to just under your crease. Using a black-liquid eyeliner such as Flirt! Cosmetics Opening Line in Ebony Edge, carefully line your upper and lower lashes. Create a thicker line on the top lashes and extend it out just a little bit for a catlike-winged effect. Then, take more of the black shadow and apply it over the liner for a smokier and softer effect.
Apply two coats of black mascara and attach false eyelashes for additional drama. Lastly, take a silver cream shadow like Vincent Longo's Eye Souffle in Argeto and using a Q-tip,carefully dot and blend the shadow to the "V" along the inner corners of your eyes.
Lips: Lauren's lip look is all about a pop of sheer color. Try using a bright pink lip gloss such as Benefit Her Glossiness V.I.P. Lip Gloss in Who Are You Wearing and keep reapplying throughout the night!
