Primer: Hang Wallpaper Like a Pro, Part I

Wallpaper is back in a big way, but the idea of hanging it is still pretty intimidating to most people. So, after reading some great tips in Blueprint and online at This Old House and Lowe's how-to section, I've decided to put together a Primer on how to hang wallpaper like a pro. Here's Part I on pre-hanging preparation, and tune in later today for Part II: installation.

The Preparation

First, you'll need to determine how much wallpaper to buy. Just enter your room's dimensions into this handy wallpaper calculator, and get an extra roll just to be safe.
Start the prep work a day in advance. Turn off the electrical source and remove the outlet covers and switchplates for the wall you want to paper.

Get rid of any old wallpaper, then spackle or sandpaper cracks and other flaws in the wall.
Clean the wall with a 1-to-4 mixture of ammonia and water, then coat the surface wallpaper primer. Allow 24 hours for drying.
Lay down a plastic painter's tarp to protect your floors.
Check to make sure that the lot numbers on all of the wallpaper rolls match, and save the packaging in case you need to buy more paper.

Nozin Nasal Swabs: Prepared or Paranoid?

I'll be the first to admit that I am a little freaked out by germs, especially when on an airplane. I don't know why; maybe I saw Outbreak one too many times. Point is that I tend to get a little excited about gadgets that aim to keep me germ free so my heart kind of went pitter patter when I learned about Nozin Nasal Sanitizing Swabs ($9.95 for a pack of 10).

Basically the swabs are Q-Tips preloaded with a germ killer made from a proprietary formula of pharmaceutical grade ethyl alcohol, natural ingredients and plant-based compounds known to have virucidal activity. Just a FYI, it's not an antibiotic so germs will not build resistance.

I am seriously considering investing in a pack for holidays, which is going to involve spending hours and hours on planes for me. What do you guys think-are nasal swabs a sign of being prepared or over paranoid?

Jude Prepares For Another Tell-All From the Women in His Life

Jude Law was smiling as he left a Midtown East office building with his assistant in New York yesterday, despite the news that his ex-wife Sadie Frost is reportedly planning a tell-all book. John Blake, the publisher, says: "You couldn't wish for more in an autobiography. We haven't discussed the finer detail, but we would expect it to contain pretty much everything. Sadie has a very good sense of humour and is very self-deprecating." Following Samantha Burke's revelations about her relationship with Jude in her interview with Hello, I would have thought Jude could do with a break, but as Sadie has publicly defended him recently it sounds like the former couple are on great terms. Change wet and soiled diapers right away. Clean the diaper area and allow to dry.
Clean minor wounds before applying this medicine.
This medicine is for use on the skin only. Do not get it in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Do not use it on skin areas that have cuts or scrapes. If it does get on these areas, rinse it off right away.
Apply a thin layer to the affected area. Rub it in gently. Do not rub in the medicine that came in a pad, swab, or spray. Allow the pad, swab, or spray medicine to dry before covering the treated skin area.
Apply this medicine as often as needed (for babies, with each diaper change), unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

How to Store and Dispose of This Medicine

Store this medicine at room temperature in a closed container, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.
Keep this and all medicine out of the reach of children.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

Warnings While Using This Medicine

For adult women, make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
