Yesterday I gave you the dos and don'ts of fighting and one of my suggestions was to fight in private. Not only is it important for the quarreling couple to be disturbance free, but fighting in public is sure to make everyone in the vicinity feel incredibly uncomfortable. Now I know that it's easy to let our emotions get the best of us, but tell me, have you ever gotten into a knockdown, drag-out fight with your significant other in a public place?

They can't possibly be real, but they are. Last week GiggleSugar posted a Headline of the Day on the masturbate-a-thon, and I almost couldn't believe my eyes. I did a little more research and found out that these strange events first began in San Francisco in 1998 as a way of breaking social taboos around masturbation and self-pleasure. In case you're wondering, it's exactly how it sounds: a group of people masturbating together for an extended length of time.

During the event they have contests, including titles for most orgasms and they provide entertainment by singers and sex educators. Promoters declare that it's important for sexual awareness and they make it very clear that masturbation is the safest way to have sexual satisfaction. Although they have a point, I don't think this is the way to go about making it! Do you think this is an innovative concept or just plain disgusting?

You Asked: How Can I Make him be More Affectionate?

Dear Sugar--

I have a great boyfriend, who I've been with for almost 1 year. He's a great guy, and we always have a great time together. There's just one thing that bothers me....he is not a passionate guy, or passionate enough to display affection in public. I like PDA, such as kissing in public, or caressing his back. However, he's pretty uptight about it. Once, while we were waiting in line in a clothing store, I put my hand on his butt, and just started to touch it casually, not in an erotic way. He immediately grabbed my hand and put it on his waist, apparently he didn't like my touching in public. I think PDA is a cute way to show your love to the world, while he think it's embarrassing and inappropriate. What should I do? Should I accept it as a fact, as his personality, or should I move on to find a guy who's more passionate and not afraid of showing love to others?

Many people have issues with public displays of affection. They think that everyone is staring at them and that any kind of touching or kissing is best saved for the bedroom. My question though is this: How is his level of passion behind closed doors? If he is all about getting it on and being affectionate when no one is watching, then you have to know that your man's uptightness about PDA is in no way a reflection of how he feels about you. It probably just makes him really uncomfortable to be showy.

That's not to say that him pushing your hand away and turning away from your kisses isn't frustrating. I suggest you tell him how you feel. Explain how important it is to express your love to him no matter where you are, and ask him if he could meet you half way. Since he is clearly uncomfortable, you have to respect his wishes as well and come to a fair compromise.

Maybe you two can come up with rules about your PDA, like holding his hand is okay, but touching his butt is out of the question. Maybe kissing on the cheek is acceptable, but lip-to-lip contact isn't. Once you two reach an agreement about this, I'm sure you'll both feel better.

Where Do You Stand? Public Displays of Affection

When you're in a relationship, some people like to express their love no matter where they are or what they are doing. They need to hug, kiss and touch their partner, and they don't care who sees them doing it.

Some people, on the other hand, feel like it's inappropriate to be touchy-feely in front of others. It makes them feel uncomfortable to kiss in public, and they feel like other people don't need (or want) to see it either. They save their love fests for the privacy of their own homes.

So where do you stand on public displays of affection? Are you into it, or do you feel like it's something you should do in private?

Are Video Proposals Online Cowardly or Cute?

Last night Tumblr users signed on to see "Marissa Nystrom, will you marry me?" bannered across their dashboards, whether or not they followed proposer Justin Johnson's blog. The link goes to this genuinely thoughtful, romantic, and well-edited video, but I presume his girlfriend follows his blog. So the only reason I can see to link the video to the world is to consummate its place in the controversial genre of public marriage proposals.

Public proposals seem unabashedly confident at first, but only the most heartless, unafraid-to-make-a-scene askee would say no. Put it on video and not only is he not asking her in person, but he's putting pressure on her to say yes in front of the largest stage of all. And when it's online, you can't leave your audience behind.

Public Marriage Proposal Rejected - What Would You Do?

There's always a risk involved in a marriage proposal - she (or he) could say no! But a person heightens that risk when he decides on a public proposal. Yesterday on Australian national television, a man surprised his girlfriend of three years and proposed to her on stage. Sweet huh? Not really, considering that she ran off stage crying! Maybe this is why men are as afraid of proposing marriage as they are of sharks.

This clip, if it wasn't staged, is so heartbreaking! What would you do if you were the girlfriend? Say yes and dump him later (and in private), or turn him down in front of everyone?

Johnny Joins Marion In London For Public Enemies Premiere

Back in May we took a look at the trailer for new movie Public Enemies, starring the gorgeous Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard and Christian Bale, and last night London played host to the European premiere of the movie. Directed by Michael Mann, it's a 1930s gangster flick based on a true story, and fans were out in force last night to get a glimpse at the star of it all, Johnny. Other celebs attending included New Moon's Jamie Campbell Bower, Amelle Berrabah, and The Feeling, but will you go and see it when it comes out on Friday?

I-Do Don'ts: Don't Turn Your Marriage Proposal Into a Musical

Oh, the magic. You want to propose to your girlfriend in public? Fine. Do it in a restaurant. Do it on top of the Empire State Building. Do it on the street in Disney World. But for Peter Pan's sake do not turn it into an improv musical and horrify your sweet bride-to-be into saying yes.

I have my doubts about how real this is, but it's still terrifying! A middle-aged woman in a wheelchair zips into center~~stage~~ street while pointing at the girl and singing. And, then, proposal man can't find the ring. Did he lose it? Did he give to you? Or you, or you, or you? No! It's all part of the act. In sweeps a street cleaner who chirps "I might have it!" Right here in this used cup.

Johnny Depp Is Who He Wants to Be

Johnny Depp and Marion Cotillard looked glamorous at the Public Enemies premiere in London earlier today. Over the weekend he was turning heads in NYC but now he's back to promoting his new film. Johnny recently spoke about why the movie is relevant in our current economy and also discussed staying true to himself. Here's more:

On his character robbing banks: "Back then the banks were the enemies. We're learning today that they've been the enemies yet again. So when it comes to Dillinger, isn't it somehow nice to see the underdog kind of take control, even if it was another time?"
On what's important to him: "My kiddies are getting bigger. My daughter's 10 and my boy's 7. The greatest thing is just the sort of beauty of watching my kids grow up and become little adults."
On his advice about growing up: "Remember that you make your own reality. You don't have to stay in a little shell that was hammered out for you from childhood. We're all conditioned to live the way our parents want us to live, and that turns people into serial killers sometimes. At a certain point you have to come out and live your life the way you want to live it. I had to fight to retain my individuality. I'd get agents who'd say, 'Well, what are you fighting against? Why are you going against the grain?' But I knew that if I continued on in the way that they wanted me to, it was death. It's just a question of standing straight and saying, 'No. I'm not going to be what you want me to be. I'm going to be what I want to be.'"
