Gwen Stefani was back at LAX yesterday with her No Doubt bandmates and her two sons. She rocked the same tie-dyed pants we saw her wearing on stage a few weeks ago, but Kingston showed the most style with his new blond spiky 'do. Kingston has been a trendsetter since he was just a baby and it seems like he's already adopted his parents' rock and roll lifestyle. This bold, comic book yellow colour suits the creative lady who is most famous for her wild jumpsuits. This look is certainly courageous, and I promote Pam for using her hair to express her sense of style. What are your thoughts on her sunny strands?

Do More Guys Really Have Crazy Hair These Days?

There's a story in The New York Times about young men who're styling their hair in wild, wacky ways. The piece suggests that "Generation Y" guys, like Adam Lambert of American Idol fame, are more inclined to experiment with their hair and see it less as a mark of cultural affiliation (like "I'm a hippie" or "I'm a punk") than as a style statement. It also features several pictures of college guys and men in their mid-20s with funky hair. Looking at the photos, though, all I could think was that these guys are part of an established subculture: they're hipsters, and their "thing" is playing with kitsch from the past 40 years, so the hair makes perfect sense. Overall, few of the men I see actually seem to be trying any styles that might be called "extreme." But am I hanging out in the wrong places? Do you think more guys, on average, experiment with their hair nowadays?

What a difference a year makes. A year ago, relatively few people had heard of Kristen Stewart; now, she's one of the most famous starlets in Hollywood. After a weekend that included a potentially romantic rendezvous with Robert Pattinson, she strolled the TCA red carpet with a punk-lite style. Silvery eye shadow and almost bare lips complemented her dark hair - dyed for her role as Joan Jett, of course. Are you liking this rocker-girl look on her?

Trend Alert: Shaved and Shorn

Tough-girl style is on the rise, as evidenced by the small but growing number of women who are pounding their heads against a Wahl. Using clippers to shave half of their hair off, they're channeling a look that's equal parts Tank Girl, Vanilla Ice, and punk-rock scene queen Rihanna, who just lopped off half of her hair, leaving some volume up top. Before her, Cassie shaved some designs into her shorn hair. London model Alice Dellal arguably revived the half-and-half hair trend last year, and now that official Bella girl crush Kate Lanphear has cropped her coif, it's only a matter of time before others follow suit.

Fab Ad: Phi, Fall '09

For Fall '09, Phi created an amazing ad featuring top blondes Anna Selezneva, Sasha Pivovarova, and Natasha Poly. Seriously, when the models and clothes are this hot, photographer Steven Meisel saw no need to add color to this sexy, slick campaign. Check out the beauties wearing Phi's divinely dark moto zip jackets, knit dresses, leather leggings, and sassy miniskirts. It's all very biker-chic with a sophisticated touch. Also, take note of the majorly teased heavy-metal hair - a nod to the '80s theme but not overly so. I like to call it posh punk.

Janelle Monáe Talks Music, Style, Books, and Beauty

If you haven't heard of Janelle Monáe, you are missing out. Seriously. The Grammy-nominated singer has a smooth but strong voice like felted cashmere, feet like Fred Astaire, and style like nobody else. Fresh off supporting tour dates with Erykah Badu and No Doubt, she's sharing her high-energy show at the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans on July 4, followed by a performance July 6 at Afro-Punk in Brooklyn. Happy Birthday Bob! The the blunt-cut, bob haircut is turning 100 this year. The style, which was first invented in 1909 in Paris by Antoine de Paris (whose inspiration was Joan of Arc), has reinvented itself decade after decade proving that history always repeats itself, especially when it comes to hair. 2008, in particular was a banner year for the bob. We saw celebrities wearing a multitude of takes on the bob ranging from the pageboy bob to the choppy bob, the angled bob, Louise Brooks bob and the hocus-pocus bob.

Mark Coray, VP of the National Hairdressers' Federation of Great Britain, said, "The bob has rocked through the ages with the punks, the mods, new romantics and with pop and television stars. I have been cutting hair for 25 years and not one week has passed where a bobbed hairstyle has not left the salon."

I had a bob when I was eleven. It was just below my chin and was I totally obsessed with making sure it was always perfectly curled under. It looked great, but was too high maintenance for my adolescent lifestyle. Have you ever worn your hair in a bob?
