Which Hair Colour Do You Like Most on Rachel McAdams?

Within the past month, Canadian actress Rachel McAdams has dabbled in three different hair colour dyes. Back in August at the New York premiere of The Time Traveler's Wife, her hair was a shiny and rich shade of brunette. Me thinks it was a semi-permanent job because weeks later it looks faded, like some of her old blonde highlights came through. Then yesterday, she attended the Proenza Schouler fashion show with brand-new blonde hair. Out of these three colours, which do you find the most flattering on Rachel McAdams?

I want to know Rachel McAdams's secrets for coolness. Not only does she convey a modern vintage style in her look, but she seems to have an approachable, down-to-earth personality. Plus, I love that she isn't afraid to try new things, like this old-school teased coiffure, and some seriously punky pink hair.

This morning while filming scenes for her upcoming movie, Morning Glory, the actress wore her hair in loose waves with casual twists on the sides, showing off those multidimensional gold-toned locks. It's a perfect substitute for your typical braid-on-the-side style.

Rachel McAdams on Hair Colour (and Changing It!)

Rachel McAdams is a great example of how your hair colour can completely change your look. She is most familiar to me for her role as Regina George in 'Mean Girls' but I almost don't recognise her when she has dark hair. She has starred in many films since Mean Girls (of course) and is now out to promote The Lucky Ones.

She spoke to the New York Times about her ever changing hair colour:

It’s a compulsion: I’m always changing parts of me. Even when I was young, I wanted to change my hair color. I was so determined that I dyed my hair with Kool-Aid. You dunk your head in a bowl of red Kool-Aid for four hours, and it comes out apricot. Not that pretty, but it is still transforming. Even my handwriting changes regularly. [She laughs.] They say that only happens with sociopaths, so maybe I’m crazy.

I too am a big fan of changing my hair colour. You wouldn't wear the same outfit every day so why stick with the same hair colour! Do you like to change your hair colour?

How Do You Prefer Rachel McAdams' Hair?

In my opinion, Rachel McAdams has some of the best skin in Hollywood. Because of her milky white, flawless complexion, she can really play around with hair and makeup colors. I've always loved her as a blonde, but as a brunette, her eyes have extreme depth.

Most recently, she's been taking a walk on the wild side with her funky, chunky pink highlights which I happen to like too; I guess I am altogether undecided! Which hair color do you think is the most flattering on her?

How-To: Teasing Your Hair

Big hair is back! And since the glossary post about hair teasing turned out to be so popular, I thought I'd create a little do-it-yourself guide so you can see just how easy it is to create some volume at your crown.

Step 1: Using a soft bristled hair brush, give your head a thorough brushing until all tangles and knots are gone.
Step 2: Next, take a metal comb or teasing brush and divide hair into two-inch sections. Set the section you are about to tease aside, and clip the rest so it stays out of the way.
Step 3: In one hand, hold the section of hair you are going to work with by the ends. Make sure the hair is straight up in the air so that you can access the area underneath. Using your free hand, take the comb and back-comb your hair in short strokes in the opposite direction from which it grows.
Step 4: Pick up the next section of hair and repeat the process until all of the desired sections of hair have been teased. When you are done, gently smooth hair over with the comb and generously spray your hair with a firm hold hairspray to ensure longer lasting volume.

Whose Punky Pink Hair Do You Like The Best?

It is totally acceptable to dye your hair blonde, brunette and even red, so how come when celebrities decide on an unnatural hair color like pink, they catch so much heat? The look is personally too punk for me, but I'm not a rock star or a celeb. Who do you think looks best in pink hair?

All About Lauren Conrad's Extensions With Stylist Kristin Ess

Kristin Ess of Warren-Tricomi Salon in LA has styled everyone from Rachel McAdams to the runway models at Marc Jacobs, but she's also known for her work on The Hills, and for Lauren Conrad's styles in particular. So when I found out that Lauren's perfectly natural-looking hair was actually Kristin's perfect extensions, I really wanted to speak with her to get the scoop about them. You created LC's extensions and her look. How did you start out using them on her?

The thing about extensions is that you have to have the exact right kind for your hair. When I started working with Lauren, she had a thicker kind of extension, and because she went to so many events, we were styling her hair a lot. Because of the texture of her hair, though, we kept having to hide the extension if she wanted to put it into a ponytail. We always had to leave a little bit of a poof and couldn’t do a tight ponytail, either, because the extension would pop out sometimes, or you would just see a lump. We were working around the extensions, basically, instead of the hair working around us. I told her, "Listen, I really want to put my thinner extensions in your hair." She had never heard of them, but she said "OK, I trust you. Let’s do it." So, we took the thick extensions out, we put the thinner ones in, and she's never taken them out since.

I had no idea they were extensions until recently.

You know what's so funny? I do a lot of interviews about Lauren’s hair, and sometimes people are like, "What do you mean she has extensions? Oh, I thought that was her hair." Meanwhile, people don’t realize that her hair is actually about to her collarbone.

How do you keep the extensions seamless and blend in the ends when her actual length is that drastically different? That’s hard to do!

Particularly with the extensions - first and foremost is color matching. I pride myself on that, because I can color match your hair exactly. You can always see extensions when they aren't perfectly color matched. So that's one, and the other is the placement. There's a certain way that you have to place the hair, and a pattern that you put them in. To have extensions look natural, you have to leave a little bit more room in certain places and put a few closer together. The reason that the ones I use are so great is that they're in two and half inch panels, and I can basically place them wherever I want.

Yesterday at the New York Premiere of The Time Traveler's Wife, Candadian actress Rachel McAdams wore a head-turning, plunging white body-con dress. Paired with black pointy pumps and sophisticated brown curly hair, she pulled out all the stops to give off a glamorous old Hollywood appearance. The next day she continued her press tour with a stop at a morning talk show looking reserved and prim in a high-waisted electric blue pencil skirt and sheer organza blouse. Rachel McAdams Is Seriously Pink For Sherlock Holmes

Rachel McAdams spent some quality time in hair and makeup before donning a spectacularly pink dress on the set of Sherlock Holmes in Brooklyn yesterday. While there is still another Sherlock Holmes movie in the works starring Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen, we've already gotten quite a taste for this more serious production. Though with comedic Oscar nominee Robert Downey Jr. on set, it can't be all work and no play for the cute cast.
