They come in three colors - pink, blue, and red- with different frosting styles. I think they would make a perfect party favor, especially when paired with a homemade cupcake. - Never Bashful With Butter

YumSugar Gift Guide: Goodies For Granny

If your list contains a grandma who loves spending time in the kitchen - which is a pretty clichéd visual, so I'm going to guess that it does - then you may want to consider some of these gift ideas. For starters, you could get a few pics of your little ones - or of you! - and create a personalized, custom apron. Alternatively, you could present her with this custom embosser and a set of recipe cards. Now when you ask her for the secret family recipes, she'll be able to emboss them with a Recipe From . . . seal. Or you could treat her to a box of wine-filled truffles; after all everyone loves a naughty treat! Scroll through the list for a few of our other options.

Flashback: 1974 Weight Watchers Recipe Cards

The idea behind these 1974 Weight Watchers recipe cards is quite simple. Create enigmatically named food that looks revolting, and dieters will totally lose their appetites. I mean, "Liver Paté en Masque" (shown above) looks like it's covered in gray glue. And then there's "Caucasian Shashlik," (don't ask), "Jellied Tomato Refresher" (yum!), and "Fluffy Mackerel Pudding" (fluffy!). Look below if you dare.

The idea behind these 1974 Weight Watchers recipe cards is quite simple. Create enigmatically named food that looks revolting, and dieters will totally lose their appetites. It's brilliant, really. I mean, "Liver Paté en Masque" (shown above) doesn't exactly make me drool, especially since it looks like it's covered in grey glue. Or maybe it's "en masque" because the food's too embarrassed to show its face? For a ghastly glance at "Caucasian Shashlik," (don't ask), "Jellied Tomato Refresher" (yum!), and "Fluffy Mackerel Pudding" (fluffy!), look below if you dare.

Tiny Prints and Rachael Ray Team Up For Tasty Cards

Embarking on a new frontier, the talented kitchen cook has teamed up with the omnipresent Tiny Prints to create a line of "yum-o" holiday and food inspired announcements.

Holidays mean spending time with family, friends and what else? Food! Snowflakes made out of spoons and forks adorn photo greeting cards and are accompanied with phrases like, "Peace. Love. Food." Or, forgo the photos for wreath and snowman adorned folded cards that have a special treat inside - a printed recipe! Tell your friends how much you care about them with a recipe for Ladybug Pizzas or Spinach and Artichoke Hummus Dip.

Feel good purchasing the "yum-o!" cards as a portion of the proceeds will support yum-o!'s mission to empower kids to develop healthy relationships with food and cooking.

* Free shipping on all orders over $99 with the code HOLIDAYSHIP!
Gorgeous Alphabet Sugar Cookies

Having a good, reliable sugar cookie recipe in your repertoire is a must for every home baker. Sugar cookies are incredibly diverse and can be turned into many different kinds of cookies. For a clever take on place settings think about making these sugar cookie stand outs. Part of the dough is dyed red and two cookie cutter shapes are used to make the letter and the backing. These make beautiful edible ornaments come holiday time. To take a look at the recipe, read more

Sugar Cookie Standouts
From Better, Homes, and Gardens magazine

2/3 cup butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
red (or any other color) food coloring
Edible glitter, sparkling sanding sugar, or granulated sugar (optional)

In a large mixing bowl beat butter on medium to high speed for 30 seconds. Add granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt. Beat until combined, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in egg, milk, and, vanilla until combined. Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer. Stir in any remaining flour.

Tint one-third of the dough red with 3/4 teaspoon liquid red food coloring before chilling. Cover and chill dough for 2 to 3 hours or until easy to handle.

On a lightly floured surface form a mound by dropping small amounts of each of the doughs close together in a random pattern. Gently shape the mound into a ball. Divide in half. Cover and chill until easy to handle.

On a lightly floured surface, roll half the dough at a time to 1/8 inch thickness. Using a 3-inch alphabet-shaped cutter, cut into desired shapes. Sprinkle with edible glitter, sparkling sanding sugar, or granulated sugar, if desired. Place 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake in a 375 degree oven for 7 to 8 minutes or until edges are firm and very lightly browned. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool.

Flash Card App Keeps the Kids Sharp All Year Round

When I was a kid, I remember getting out a stack of my mom's recipe cards and making my very own set of math flash cards. I'd like to think they helped me learn my times tables, but nonetheless, it was useful practicing in the Summer months because I'd be ahead of the game when school started.

Whether you've got children, young cousins, or brothers and sisters that are in the throws of learning arithmetic, this Math Flash Cards iPhone app is a great way to test them on all the basics. And because it stores times and scores for each exercise, there's some extra incentive to want to do better! This app only costs 99 cents.

Flavor Your Own Chips With Kettle's Create-a-Chip Kit

My whole life, I've been a sucker for trying the every possible packaged food novelty, from bacon-flavored mayonnaise to ice cream cupcakes. However, my favorite kind of food promotion is - hands down - the interactive kind. For example, some time ago, Kettle sent Party and I an assortment of new chips, and asked us to vote on the brand's next flavor. This year, the chipmakers took it to the next level with an even more hands-on promotion. For their Create-a-Chip Challenge, Kettle sent a kit with seven seasoning packets, four bags of unseasoned chips, three Kettle flavors for inspiration, and a card with recipe suggestions. To see what original flavors we came up with, read more.

We giddily toyed around with the seasoning blends, which included sweet chili, vinegar, sour cream and chive, lemon butter, caramelized onion, cheddar, and roasted tomato. Our first combination, curry ketchup, was a mix of roasted tomato, vinegar, sweet chili, and some garam masala we had lying around. We felt it was pleasantly distinctive, but we liked our second idea even better: fully loaded baked potato, made with sour cream and chives, lemon butter, and cheddar.

Both Party and I agreed Kettle's Create-a-Chip Kit ($14.99 or $24.99 for two) was one of the best work diversions ever. We've even uploaded our recipes to the company's online recipe gallery, and we've reserved two unflavored bags of chips to come up with even better flavors. What should we make with them? Please share your ideas!
