How To: Cheryl Takes Pride in Her Beautiful British Hairstyle

The red carpet was filled with British beauties last night at the Pride of Britain Awards. Stars like Mel B. and Louise Redknapp showed up in colourful frocks, whilst Cheryl Cole arrived wearing a black corseted minidress and bold red lipstick (a trend we know still remains a fash pack fave). However, it was Cheryl's hair that had me doing a double take. Her curly, low ponytail was chic, sexy, voluminous and different than the other do's everyone else donned.

STEP 1: Begin by washing and conditioning hair with a curl enhancing product like Mark Hill Salon Sexy Curls Shampoo and Conditioner (£4.99 for each).
STEP 2: Next, dry hair with a diffuser. When hair is 85 percent dry, apply a generous amount of Umberto Giannini Shapely Curl Friends Mousse (£4.69) from the roots to ends. Then, part hair to the side and using a two-inch curling iron, curl small sections of hair right up to the roots leaving the tongs in place for at least ten seconds. Secure the section with clips.
STEP 3: Remove the clips and let the curls fall loosely. Take a pinch more mousse and apply it to the roots and mid-lengths of the side that you are going to pull off of your face. Brush it back (not all of the way through as you don't want your curls on the ends to frizz) and secure the section with criss-crossing bobby pins.
STEP 4: Finally, use a clear elastic to hold the ponytail together loosely towards the middle-ends. Lastly, style the front of your hair that isn't pulled back and let a few tendrils fall. Finish with a heavy mist of Andrew Collinge Weightless Volume Thickening Hairspray (£4.20) all over.

Last night in Los Angeles at the premiere of The Ugly Truth, Katherine Heigl wowed the red carpet with dark auburn hair. Depending on the light and the angle of the cameras, the shade varies between red and chestnut brown, but it's certainly is a drastic change from her usual platinum look. The only other time I've see Katherine head over to the dark side was for her role in 27 Dresses. Out of these three colours, which do you like the best?

How-To: Kristen Bell's Braided Updo

Kristen Bell's red carpet appearances are almost always practically flawless, and at last night's premiere of Couples Retreat in LA, the actress dazzled once again. This time, it was her loose and wavy braided updo that had heads turning. To copy the look at home, you'll need just a few basic items and a little creativity:

Part your hair to the side and section off the front of your hair from the back. A good guideline is to create a part from ear to ear.

Next, pull the back section into a loose ponytail. Braid, using the four-strand method. Secure with an elastic band and twist the braid up toward the occipital bone. Secure with bobby pins.

Twist small sections of hair from the front into the back of the updo. Weave some of the strands together for a wavy effect. To create a seamless look, hide the pins behind the braid.

To finish off the look, curl face-framing strands, and softly pull back away from the face. Spritz on a volumizing spray for lift, like Nexxus 360 Volume Volumizing Design and Finishing Mist ($11.50).

How-To: Ashlee Simpson's Laid-Back Asymmetric Updo

Have you noticed a hot trend emerging on the red carpet? These days, it's all about loose, casually tossed-back updos with pieces left out in the front. Renée Zellweger has been sporting different versions of the look over the past few days, from her tousled bangs she wore at the September Issue premiere to the soft and feminine look she wore earlier this week. At last night's InStyle Summer Soiree in LA, Ashlee Simpson presented her take, complete with asymmetric, twisty angles. Like the look? Get some tips for achieving the casual style when you read more.

Using a shine-enhancing, medium-hold gel like Kiehl's Clean-Hold Styling Gel ($15), blow dry the hair with a round brush for volume and soft curl.
Create a side part in the front, leaving all of the hair from the back of the ear to the front of the hairline out. Sweep the hair behind the lighter side of the part towards the opposite, heavier side. Secure the hair by creating a loose ponytail with an elastic band, using bobby pins to anchor where needed.
Tuck and pin some of the loose ends of the ponytail under the band. Then, twist and pin some of the other loose ends for a tousled effect.
Next, take a few chunky pieces from the front sections of the hair and twist them back into the ponytail. Secure with bobby pins. Finish off by loosely curling the remaining pieces in the front for a bohemian look.

Last night at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles the hottest young celebrities gathered on the red carpet to show off their fabulous outfits, hair and makeup. I was impressed with how age appropriate everyone looked. Makeup was fun, flirty and polished, but it was the dramatic hair changes that caught my attention. Twilight actress Nikki Reed, Audrina Patridge, Kim Kardashian and Rumer Willis all had major colour transformations for the big event. Vote on which hair colour you like best. Last night at the 2009 Elle Style Awards in London, rock-star daughter, model and socialite, Pixie Geldof arrived with a fun and flirty haircut, typical of how we've seen her in the past few years, however, she had no pigment whatsoever in her hair! One thing's for sure, having taken a long look at the different hair colours she donned over the past few years, Pixie has certainly earned her spot on this stylish red carpet. Whose Hair Looked Best at The MuchMusic Video Awards?

I've never heard much about the MuchMusic Awards, however, they celebrated their 20th anniversary last night in Ontario, Canada with tons of supportive singers and MTV reality show stars. Kim Kardashian rocked the red carpet with an intricate hocus pocus bob (meaning that her hair is just pinned up to appear shorter), Audrina Patridge looked blonder than ever, and Canadian singer-songwriter Lights sported a serious comb-over. All of the ladies donned smoky eyes and nude lips, however, who gets your vote for best looking hair of the night?

How To Get Drew Barrymore's Bardot-Inspired Hair

At last night's Los Angeles premiere of Grey Gardens, actress Drew Barrymore walked the red carpet with her hair styled in sexy, wild Brigitte Bardot-inspired waves. She had in a faux-piece to create volume and length, and wore winged eyeliner, retro pink lipstick and a St. Tropez-esque boho chic Alberta Ferreti dress to complete the siren of the 60's look.

STEP 1: Wash and condition hair and apply a palmful of styling mousse to the lengths of the hair. Next, spritz in a generous amount of volumizer (with hold) such as Lanza Volume Root to the roots, and blow dry straight. Once hair is dry, set hair in rollers to create even more volume.
STEP 2: After leaving the rollers in for about 20 minutes (this is a great time to start on your makeup), gently take them out. Then shake your head upside down to loosen the curls and flip hair back up. At this time, carefully clip the crown of your hair together and secure your hairpiece or your extensions.
STEP 3: Now the fun begins! Using a soft brush, or a comb, tease the crown of your hair. Also, since we're going for mega volume, include a few pieces from the sides too.
STEP 4: Once you've teased your heart out, hold hair up in sections, spray your newly teased roots and hold until the spray dries (just a few seconds). Repeat until you're finished. Lastly, take a brush, and ever so gently, smooth hair back. Finish by finger coming the curls and mist your entire head with hairspray.
