Compare & Contrast: Red Dress, Leopard Belt, Black Pumps

Red dress, leopard belt, black pumps - a killer combination both Rihanna and Elizabeth Banks recently took on. Fashion coincidence? The items are similar but the styling is vastly different. Rihanna is dressy and chic, while Elizabeth is more casual and sassy. Let's break their looks down shall we?

Rihanna: The singer chose a tomato red Monique Lhuiller Resort '09 dress at the Spirit of Life Awards dinner in LA. Very fancy-dinner appropriate.

Dress: So as not to be the average lady in red, she sought funkiness and got it with the origami detail bodice. The taffeta fabric elevates the look to black tie status.

Belt: The slim leopard belt breaks up the look and adds a touch of casual. Without it, the look would be too mature for Rihanna.

Shoes: The black satin pointy pumps maintain sophistication without distracting.

Elizabeth Banks: The actress wore a bold red square-neck mini dress to the MTV TRL studios in NYC. MTV appearances require lightheartedness and this delivered.

Dress: This dress is not nearly as elaborate as Rihanna's; it's equally modern, fun, and flattering.

Belt: This overly wide leopard belt distracts from the dress. Plus, it does nothing for her figure besides hide it.

Shoes: The black patent round-toe pumps save the look. They provide some much-needed shine.

If ever you're having a bad day, throw on a bright red dress and see how your mood turns around. Jessica Simpson has nothing to be sad about, but she still donned a red dress while in NYC. A loud dress doesn't require much accessorizing, but Jess jazzed up her look with a rosary, a cross, and stacked bangles. On her feet, she wore Frye's buckle sandals, and on her eyes, cool aviators. I'm sure there will be some red dresses in Jessica's upcoming dress collection.

You were in good company today as The Heart Truth, whose goal is to make women more aware of the disease, had its fifth Red Dress Show at New York's Fashion Week. Top designers and celebrity women united (along with you if you wore red) on one runway to debut Red Dresses created for The Heart Truth. Red Dress Collection 2007 featured "Celebrated Women" of entertainment, sports, business and media fame such as Katharine McPhee, Kelly Ripa, Kim Cattrall, Angela Basset, Rachel Ray, Betsey Johnson and lots others.

Jennifer, Gwyneth and More Spend Thanksgiving in Morocco

While many of us were chowing down on Thanksgiving, some stars were all decked out for the re-opening of the hotel La Mamounia in Marrakech, Morocco yesterday. Jennifer Aniston led the way in her sexy black gown after arriving in town just in time for the party. Orlando Bloom had his glamorous girlfriend Miranda Kerr on his arm while Salma Hayek opted for a one-shouldered dress. Gwyneth Paltrow went with something lighter as she spent the American holiday away from her family. Adrien Brody recently wowed us with his hot shirtless abs in Hawaii, but he also looked pretty dapper all dressed up to hit the red carpet.

New York Fashion Week, Fall 2009: Heart Truth Red Dress Collection

Today was my first official full day of Fashion Week and I couldn't have kicked it off with a better show. The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection is a feel good show that benefits a good cause - heart disease in women. It was super fun because fearless celebrity females strutted their stuff in various red designer dresses. It was cool to see Vivica Fox sing down the runway in her super sparkly Jenny Packham gown, and gold medalist Nastia Liukin work it in a saucy BCBG LRD. These stars proved that you can make serious waves in a red dress. With a touching introduction by the beloved Tim Gunn, a parade of famous faces took the stage.Before I leave you, here are the four things you can do to prevent heart disease: eat right, be physically active, do not smoke, and keep your body weight low. Kate and Shakira Look Doe Eyed and Win at Bambi Awards

Kate Winslet and Shakira were among the winners at the Bambi Awards in Germany yesterday, which awards trophies for those in entertainment and sports. Kate was awarded the Best Actress award for her work in The Reader, and looked gorgeous in her long black dress as she posed on the red carpet. Shakira switched outfits from the blue and silver Versace number she wore as she arrived - do you love it or hate it? - to another short metallic dress, this time in black, for her performance. Shakira won the Best International Pop Star award at the ceremony - are you a fan?

Love it or Hate it: Shakira at 2009 Bambi Awards

Shakira attended the 2009 Bambi Awards in Germany last night showing off her figure in (another) Versace mini dress. The Columbian singer has become quite a fan of the classic design house as she wore one of their yellow frocks at the AMAs and a silver one to the MTV European Music Awards earlier this month. The floral trend has been blooming for some time now and this ABS by Allen Schwartz Charmeuse red dress, $300, is a fab favorite. It may look familiar, as it reminded us of Nicole Kidman's red Balenciaga Oscars gown - remember? Although compared to many frocks out there right now it's not that expensive, it is still pretty pricey for something you'll probably only wear once or twice. Let's face it: with something this red and eye-catching, you don't want to be caught wearing it at every soiree.
