Domino's Pizza claims to have taken the pie in a blind taste test against competitors Papa John's and Pizza Hut. According to the fast food chain, an independent, blind taste test of 1,800 consumers in eight different markets conducted by Lieberman Research Worldwide showed that Domino's pizzas were preferred to other pizza chains "by a wide margin." The study indicates that eaters prefer Domino's extra cheese, pepperoni, and sausage pizzas all by at least 58 percent over Pizza Hut and Papa John's.

Last night's CBS Evening News profiled Laura Martinez, a culinary student at Le Cordon Bleu Chicago who is completely blind. The visually impaired chef expressed concern about about landing a job in a true restaurant kitchen; as a surprise, CBS arranged for the young chef to meet Chicago haute cuisine king Charlie Trotter. But no one was prepared for the real shocker: an invitation from Trotter for Martinez to work the line at his flagship restaurant.

New year, new food. That's the philosophy at Chili's, which announced yesterday that it has completed the rollout of a brand-new, smaller menu. The national chain's 1,504 restaurants now serve street tacos made with mini corn tortillas, pulled pork sandwiches, and cocktails with premium spirits.

A recent blog post by a San Francisco restaurant critic raised some lively debate over whether or not it's OK to put your cell phone on the table next to you at a restaurant. Many find the practice rude, or at the very least, obtrusive when servers are unable to place plates on the table because of too many gadgets. And while most Yum readers called the practice a "don't," I'm curious what you think.

Yesterday on his blog, Michael Bauer, the restaurant critic for the San Francisco Chronicle, discussed the usage of cell phones in restaurants. It seems more people are leaving their cell phones on the table while dining. This can be problematic when there is a large group, and the waiter is looking for a place to set food.

Domino's Pizza ended the year with a big bang! The pizza delivery chain acknowledged that its current recipe for pizza was less than ideal and announced it had given its core product a complete overhaul. Execs promised the new pie would have a sweeter sauce with a red pepper kick; shredded, rather than diced, mozzarella with a hint of provolone; and a butter, garlic, and parsley crust.
