Just about everything else on the Web has a social aspect — tweets, comments, posts, @replies — why not shopping? Ecommerce is an important slice of the retail pie, and online shopping is fast, simple, and convenient. But, it doesn't beat a day out at the mall with your girlfriends.

Another day, another use for Twitter. The latest site to rely on posted tweets is ThingBuzz, a site tracking popular products on the web. It works by searching tweets for the most talked about objects available for sale and ranks them based on number of mentions, credibility, and the time frame over which the links were posted.

As far as buzzwords on the top of the list recently, "high definition" is a phrase I've been hearing nonstop. From product advertisements to television broadcasts and Internet phone calls, it seems like people are totally into living life in HD. And apparently online shopping is no exception.

How neat is this?! The Edocrab BlackBerry app lets you scan barcodes on products while shopping so you can compare prices of items, get product info, access video clips and photos, and even buy the item directly from your phone. All you have to do is take a photo of the barcode with your BB's camera and Edocrab (which is barcode spelled backwards) will work its magic.

Dell recently announced that in the last year, Twitter is responsible for $6.5 million of its sales. Dell attributes this to its ability to make personal connections with potential customers via social networking mediums. Which led me to realize that I'm dropping more cash than normal because of Twitter, too!

Retail reports after last week's Black Friday shopping day are mixed. While actual visits to stores were higher than last year, shoppers spent less money than they did in 2008. The good news for retailers: people spent more money online shopping on Black Friday than last year.
