Last night London Leicester Square was full of Trekkies old and new as the premiere of JJ Abrams new Star Trek movie. Simon Pegg, Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Eric Bana and Zoey Saldana are just a few of the recognisable faces that are taking on the classic roles in this updated version for the noughties, and fans including Jonathan Ross, Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson, Rob Kazinsky and Edith Bowman all lined up to see the re-imagining from the Lost creator. Ben, Jada and Chris Escape To London

Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Chris Rock were out in force on a rainy red carpet last night in London's Leicester Square for the Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa premiere! The three big Hollywood stars mixed in with their animal characters' on the red carpet as well as a flurry of British celebs and their children including lovely Richard Hammond who arrived with his wife and children. Ben had this to say on the red carpet:

"It was fun. The first time around was sort of an exploration. Doing an animated movie for the first time was a bit of a process so this time around it was fun because we had seen the first movie, we could visualise what it was going to look like. It was really fun because Chris is so good and to see him improvise, it was very inspiring. A little bit intimidating because he comes up with funny lines. His ratio of funny lines he comes up with is much more than mine."

Sugar Bits - Jude Law Calls For Peace Day In Afghanistan

Jude Law has called for all parties in Afghanistan's conflict to observe a "Peace Day" on September 21 as part of a global campaign for ceasefires and non-violence. - AFP
Helen Mirren has been criticised for her comments about date rape, having said that not all such cases should be taken to court, with Home Office Minister Tony McNulty saying her comments were "profoundly disappointing" and "very unhelpful". - BBC

The Cartier International Polo Tournament attracted a whole range of famous faces to sunny Windsor yesterday, from Prince Charles and Best of Booker winner Salman Rushdie to newsreader Jennie Bond, who is reportedly in the running to replace Des O'Connor on Countdown. The crowd - which did not include polo-loving Jordan, who was told she wasn't welcome - were treated to tunes from Mark Ronson in the Chinawhite Tent and a moment of unexpected entertainment when three streakers took to the pitch. Harry Potter's Emma Watson - who made it in to Forbes' top ten "tween" earners - kept cool in white on the hottest day of the year so far, while Kelly Brook and Natalie Imbruglia matched the red accents in their outfits to the weather and Dita von Teese kept her lips red hot - do you love or hate her look?

Jordan and J. K. Roll on Down to the British Book Awards

Jordan and J. K. Rowling may not usually hang out together, but wordsmiths and celebrities rubbed shoulders last night at the Galaxy British Book Awards at London's Grosvenor House Hotel. The "Nibbies", hosted by Richard & Judy, saw a number of famous faces hand out the prizes, including Geri Halliwell and Richard Attenborough (love him!). While Jordan missed out on her category, J. K. Rowling received the Outstanding Achievement Award and a video message from Gordon Brown, which seems to be the Prime Minister's favourite method of communication at the moment. A number of nominated celebs missed out on the prizes, including Nigella Lawson, but Russell Brand (who was in LA) won the biography category. Siting!

And the Winners of the RTS Awards Are ...

The winners of the Royal Television Society Programme Awards were announced at London's Grosvenor House Hotel last night, with the BBC taking the most gongs. There are a few shows and presenters I would have preferred to see win, but at least we got to see a trio of Skins stars. In fact, quite a few of the losers were in great spirits, with Declan Donnelly larking about and the Loose Women ladies reportedly behaving badly! Holly Willoughby looked lovely but on the whole I wasn't wowed by the outfits at the ceremony, although I am strangely drawn to Noel Fielding's typically bizarre style! His show The Mighty Boosh scooped the Sitcom Award, and he said:

"It's taken about 10 years for people to get their heads around it, which we knew would happen, so it's a slow build.

"Its like building a watch, an elaborate sort of intricate watch, but we've done it now and they can tell the time".

Sir David Attenborough got the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Entertainment Award went to QI, which host for the evening Eamonn Holmes said was a "great British programme, incredibly old-fashioned but definitely part of the zeitgeist".
