Brad Pitt Might Face Off With RDJ in Sherlock Holmes Sequel

Warner Brothers is already developing a sequel to the not-yet-released Sherlock Holmes with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, and early gossip suggests that Brad Pitt has been in talks to join the cast as Moriarity, Holmes's rival.

Please let this be true! Not only would adding Pitt to the Downey-Law lineup help keep the Holmes franchise afloat, but Downey and Pitt in the same film is pretty much my dream - both guys have that wise-cracking persona, good looks, and it would be so much fun to see them spar.

The downside: Pitt's character Moriarity is supposedly only shown in shadow according to the script, making him impossible to actually see. Not a single shot of Pitt's face? Bummer.

No word yet if Pitt will be affecting a British accent or using his Inglorious Basterds hillbilly.

RDJ Googles Himself and Loves Making Blockbusters

Robert Downey Jr. and Guy Ritchie looked very chummy on the set of Sherlock Holmes in Brooklyn yesterday. It was a big day for RDJ getting an Oscar nomination for Tropic Thunder about which he said, "It just shows you how far everyone in entertainment and politics has come." Robert also recently sat down with some fellow nominees for Newsweek's annual roundtable discussion. RDJ was his usual charming self:

On googling himself: Oh, I love all that s--, personally. Sorry. I love just it. Because it's a hoot. Some people overstate their support, like they know you. Other people are busy doing something else and just want to go on this chat site and say some despicable character assassination, which I honestly think they kind of nailed it. I do have that shortcoming. It's really fun.
On his career recently: I grew up in a filmmaking family, and my dad was doing maverick underground independent stuff at the time of Cassavetes, so the Mike Leigh approach was nothing new to me. If your movie made money, you were eyed suspiciously by your peers. But then the counterpoint to that, it became so about the art, things got further and further out, there was no containment for it. That to me was the first death of independent moviemaking. I'll be on the sets, we're shooting "Iron Man" and we're in the desert, and I looked up and there's a sandstorm, and I just had the ah-ha moment. Gratitude would be the wrong word. But being able to do this is kind of inexplicable. It's the sense that I'm at my purpose. I'm not very popular about this, and the misses tells me to keep it on the QT, but lately for me, the biggest most commercial generic projects that I've done are the most creatively satisfying, and the ones that the audiences respond to. And I jump off and do an indie, and they can't hit their ass with both hands, it's 50 monkeys f---ing a football, and then you have to go and pump your kidneys dry in Sundance. What's next, f---king Shakespeare in the park for the pagans for three months?

Yesterday Robert also mentioned how glad he is to see comedies getting recognized by the Academy, which is something we're also excited about.

Sherlock Might Head Home For Golden Globes

Robert Downey Jr., Rachel McAdams, and Jude Law were all dressed up for another day on the set of Sherlock Holmes in Brooklyn yesterday. Robert and Rachel stayed warm and happy between takes while Jude wore a serious face to go with his fake blood. This weekend Robert will be up for a Golden Globe for his performance in Tropic Thunder, so hopefully he'll get to take a couple of days off to head to the west coast. He'll be competing against his costar Tom Cruise, but if you think you know who will take home the trophy, fill out your ballot for a chance to win an Apple TV!

Robert Downey Jr. Still Has a Lot To Smile About

Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan may not be the front-runners in your favorite Oscar couple poll, but the two smiled their whole way from the red carpet to the afterparties. On Tuesday they were all recovered from the festivities and enjoyed a day out in Santa Monica with his son, Indio. No one really expected RDJ to win the Best Supporting Actor award on Sunday, but it was fun to see him nominated for the over-the-top role. His comeback story made lots of headlines in 2008, and hopefully the ball will keep rolling in the right direction from here on out.

More Robert Downey Jr. Goodness in the Iron Man Game

I'm super stoked for this year's blockbuster, Iron Man to hit the big screen, not only 'cause Robert Downey Jr. is one of mine and Pop's fave leading men, but because the tech and gadget cameos are sure to put me in geek overload! If you haven't seen the preview, it's packed pretty tight with geeky goodness that I'm sure you'll enjoy, plus some pretty rockin' tunes that I wish they'd offer up on Rock Band!

Thankfully, the video game will be hitting the shelves on the same day as the movie release – May 2 – so you can go from theater straight to your home console without missing a beat. But the good news is Robert Downey Jr, Terrence Howard (Lt. Rhodes) and Shaun Taub (Yin-Sin) will be lending their voice talents to the game as well. Which consoles are getting in on the action? Rachel McAdams spent some quality time in hair and makeup before donning a spectacularly pink dress on the set of Sherlock Holmes in Brooklyn yesterday. While there is still another Sherlock Holmes movie in the works starring Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen, we've already gotten quite a taste for this more serious production. Though with comedic Oscar nominee Robert Downey Jr. on set, it can't be all work and no play for the cute cast.

Reese and Jake Let the Lakers Sweat For a Change

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal headed out to watch the Lakers play in LA last night. The home team had a celebrity front row as usual to beat the Portland Trailblazers. Long-time bball player Jake looks like he pointed a few things out to Reese during the game. Over the holidays the couple spent time with another famous duo, Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan, but this date night was only about these two. Most of the time Jake and Reese are the ones getting a workout and maybe Jake can join his girl for her recent favorite exercise technique in the new year.

Robert Downey Jr. Signs Up For A Lot of Action-Packed Years

Robert Downey Jr. was dressed to face the British weather as he left his Manchester hotel earlier today. He made his way over to the set of Sherlock Holmes, joining Guy Ritchie and Jude Law to film a scene that involved him jumping out of a window. Robert should get used to all the action - he's just signed on to do two more Iron Man movies as well as the superhero flick The Avengers. Sounds like a lot of work for one man, but RDJ seems up to the challenge.

Madonna and Guy Keep Their Divorce Civil For the Kids

Guy Ritchie brought Rocco and David to the set of Sherlock Holmes in Liverpool earlier today. Madonna and Guy's divorce will be made official tomorrow after a month of ugly accusations from both sides, and it seems like everything is working out for their kids. Apparently the two will share custody of Rocco and David as the boys split their time between New York and London. Supposedly Guy didn't ask for any of Madonna's money because his priorities were on his sons. The settlement will not be disclosed to the public so we won't know the details, but it looks like the couple is moving on without drawing out the ugliness.

Jason Bourne and Iron Man's Double Date

Who knew Matt Damon and Robert Downey Jr were friends? The twosome were out with their wives in Miami this weekend dining at Quattro Gastronomia. It seems like such an odd pairing, but maybe the boys are pairing up sometime soon on the big screen. Lucky Luciana looks thrilled as usual as she should be landing the Sexiest Man Alive this year who also is currently tied for first place as your favorite male star of the year! Matt clearly had a huge year, and we couldn't be happier, but we're also a longtime fan of Downey Jr.'s so hopefully with Iron Man in '08 we can expect big things from him as well.
