Move over studs, there's a new embellishment in town: safety pins. These pins have broken out of their sewing kits and into our wardrobe via sparkly earrings, printed tops, bracelets, and slick blazers. America Ferrera feels me.

A safety pin isn't the first thing I would think to wear around my neck, but I instantly became smitten with the concept when a co-worker wore this Giles & Brother Tiny Safety Pin Necklace ($75) to work recently. Darling, right?
It's the perfect everyday necklace because it's subtle and non-distracting.

Here's yet another time when I say to myself: Why didn't I think of that? Regular silver or gold safety pins are useful, but what about those times when you're not wearing silver or gold? Violette's Pin-Up's Safety Pins ($14 for 36 pins) have answered my question.

Safety pins aren't traditionally meant to be worn as necklaces, but I say why not have a little bit of fashion fun? These life size Azumi & David Safety Pin Necklaces (call for price info) are super cheeky. They're definitely for someone with a fashion sense of humor.

When I first learned about the existence of colorful safety pins, I jumped for joy so high that had I been holding a safety pin in my hand, I would have poked my eye out. No, but seriously, besides it being pretty, it's also really useful. What I didn't jump for joy over is the price ($14 for 36 pins).

I consider myself "a creative," but it simply baffles me how inventive Danny Seo is. He seems to just ooze creativity, always devising original ways to decorate his digs in style without paying a price tag for it. His latest is achievement is a pillow he decorated with safety pins, of all things.

China Fashion Week Spring '10 is underway in Beijing, and so far, crazy headpieces rule. They were made of any and all of the following: safety pins, flowers, studs, tulle, feathers, and leather. Would you wear this severe safety-pin arrangement on your head?!
