&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Flight attendants&lt;/b&gt;: Corporate flight attendants will earn the most. The top 10 percent of flight attendants earn $102,660 a year, the average annual salary is $62,880, and the median annual salary is $61,120. Florida is the top-paying state for this occupation.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Farm, ranch and other agricultural managers&lt;/b&gt;: The top 10 percent earn $103,660 a year, the average annual salary is $61,030, and the median annual salary is $53,720. Florida is the top-paying state for this occupation.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Loan officers&lt;/b&gt;: This one surprised me not because of the six-figure salary, but because of the top-paying state. The top 10 percent earn $106,130, the average annual salary is $62,610, and the median annual salary is $53,000. Alaska is the top-paying state for this occupation, followed by Massachusetts.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Gaming managers&lt;/b&gt;: The top 10 percent earn $106,220 a year, the average annual salary is $69,600, and the median annual salary is $64,410. Nevada is the top-paying state for this occupation.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;Jobnob.com&lt;/b&gt; The site has about a quarter of the information compared to the other sites since it just launched in February, but all of the information can be accessed for free. The company&#039;s co-founder says &quot;jobs are being added rapidly,&quot; so it&#039;s a site to keep in mind going forward.&lt;/li&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Is it totally inappropriate to ask about the salary range of a job up front (before the interview)? I&#039;ve applied for a job that sounds right up my alley, but that I think might be entry level (I&#039;ve been in the field for several years). Before I waste my time and the company&#039;s time, can I ask what the salary is?&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;A: If you haven&#039;t been asked to interview yet, you can ask the human resources representative for a salary range when she initially invites you to interview. It&#039;s inappropriate and tacky to ask about salary before the company contacts you - they&#039;ll think you&#039;re just focused on the money and your chances of getting the opportunity to interview would be slim. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Depending on the company&#039;s size and organizational structure, someone other than a human resources rep may initially contact you.  If that&#039;s the case, it would be inappropriate to ask that person about salary. Do some research online to figure out the general salary for the position, and since you&#039;re already working in the field you should already have some insight.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;There are instances where different companies will pay drastically different salaries to do the same job (so frustrating, but true).  If you&#039;re over qualified and the company where you&#039;ve applied could use your extra experience, they may even tweak the job description to better suit what you can bring to the table.  You never know, so don&#039;t blow an opportunity by inappropriately asking about salary.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;As a final, related note: Money shouldn&#039;t be discussed during the interview unless the interviewer brings it up. It&#039;s usually on her agenda and she&#039;ll get to it if she thinks it&#039;s worth discussing with you.    &lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;There aren&#039;t any statistics showing how much less workers are making now that unemployment has been on the upswing for some time, but it&#039;s clear that workers are making less in general. Some experts have even advised that an employee &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.savvysugar.com/1965132/&quot; &gt;should take a voluntary pay cut&lt;/a&gt; if she&#039;s about to be given an official pink slip. The logic behind that idea is that the job market is so tough you&#039;ll have to take a pay cut anyway, and once things turn around you&#039;ll be a prime candidate for a raise.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Young workers are being hit by the downturn because more experienced out-of-work candidates are taking the jobs normally filled by young job hunters. Because most companies are running with leaner workforces, meaning less jobs are available, and the candidate pool is overflowing, taking a pay cut from your old paycheck might be necessary to be competitive. &lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Your answer to employers asking for salary requirements should be similar to what you would have said in a stronger economy. As &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.savvysugar.com/1745457/&quot; &gt;I&#039;ve mentioned before&lt;/a&gt;, there are a couple of ways to approach the salary question. You could respond by saying something along the lines of, &quot;my salary is negotiable considering other benefits and what your firm thinks is a reasonable start,&quot; or mention a salary range that leaves plenty of room for negotiation. Know what you are worth going in to the conversation, but keep in mind that a little flexibility will get you a long way in this economy. &lt;/p&gt;
