Philanthropy Runs in the Family For Salma and Francois-Henri

Salma Hayek and Francois-Henri Pinault were together in Rennes, France on Saturday for an event with one of their favorite soccer teams. The couple, who are known to enthusiastically enjoy taking in matches together, linked up with the Leukodystrophy Association to kick off a campaign that raises money for degenerative brain diseases. Salma and Francois-Henri brought along Valentina for the afternoon, and their daughter even modeled one of the charity's t-shirts for children. It's great to see the Pinaults getting involved in a good cause this holiday season, encouraging philanthropy when some families need it the most.

Salma Hayek was in Paris last night to see a soccer game with her husband Francois-Henri Pinault. The duo seemed to be riding a roller-coaster of emotion throughout the match, as they cheered, hug, and bit their nails. Salma is hanging out in France taking care of Valentina and her family, but she's due back on the big screen in the coming months. Her latest film Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant didn't make a big impression at the box office, but hopes are higher for Grown Ups - check out that film's new trailer.

Salma Towers in Sky-High Heels and Works With Pro Valentina

Salma Hayek wore sexy stilettos on her way into the Jimmy Kimmel show on Friday in LA. Her new movie The Vampire's Assistant is out on October 23 and Salma recently opened up about returning to work after giving birth to Valentina. She said, "I was supposed to do a movie right after Valentina [was born] and it was the first time in my career that I backed out of something because I just couldn’t. I couldn’t. [Valentina] did great [on the set]. She’s a pro. This movie, it was great. It was in New Orleans, it was with people that I love, some friends and some people that I didn’t know but that I’ve always wanted to work with. It was the perfect movie too. It’s a family movie in a way, and it’s about youth and it’s about love and family." Meanwhile, Salma's BFF Penelope has been fielding lots of pregnancy rumors recently, but the latest is that she's engaged to Javier Bardem! Considering how secretive Salma was able to keep her wedding, maybe she could share some tips with her equally private friend.

Cirque du Freak: An Unnecessary Addition to Vampire Entertainment

With Halloween just around the corner, October is the perfect time for movie studios to unleash their creepiest films, since we're all in the mood for a good scare. Combine with that the insatiable desire for vampire entertainment, and you've got Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant; a tween fantasy movie that plays out like R.L. Stein's Goosebumps novels on the big screen - but not nearly as scary.

Based on the book series by Darren Shan, Cirque du Freak is the story of Darren (Chris Massoglia), your typical 16-year-old boy trying to quell his high school boredom. Dubbed "Mr. Perfect" by his mischievous best friend Steve, Darren follows the rules, has plenty of friends, and does whatever his parents tell him to do - that is, unless Steve can convince him otherwise. The boys pick up a flyer for the Cirque du Freak and decide to check it out.

Things go awry when Darren finds himself tangled up in the world behind the Cirque, particularly that of Larten Crepsley, a crotchety vampire who couldn't be bothered with a teenager. When Darren gets himself into a sticky situation, the only way he can bail himself out is by selling his soul to Crepsley, becoming his half-vampire assistant.

If you thought sorting out all the vampire lore in Twilight and True Blood was confusing, get ready for the most convoluted yet. In this story, a war is brewing between two breeds: the Vampanese represent the blood-suckers that are all for killing their prey, while the run-of-the mill vamps prefer to sedate, feed, and then letting their victims return to regular life. As a half-vampire who's reluctant to lose what little human qualities he has left, Darren obviously joins Larten Crepsley's team, while his best friend Steve joins the evil Vampanese.

As for the actual Cirque du Freak, the group of misfits and outcasts are more X-Men and less Carnivale. The crew includes unusual children who were abandoned by their parents (like "Snake Boy" and "Monkey Girl"), along with a few other vaudeville acts like the Bearded Lady (Salma Hayek) and a woman who can regenerate her limbs (Jane Krakowski). Some are friendly, others are surly, but the cirque in itself is more campy than scary; little hideout is basically an island of misfit toys.

The film isn't boring, but it's not exactly packed with pizazz either. Director Paul Weitz was sure to stay on the safer side of the movie's PG-13 rating, rarely pushing the envelope on what could have been a much creepier film. John C. Reilly is always reliable for a good performance, and he has some great comedic timing as the voice of brutal honesty to Darren's naivete. Massoglia gives decent performance for a newbie, and even reminded me of a young Emile Hirsch at times. That said, the movie is also packed with confusing subplots and some truly corny dialogue that evoked collective groans from the audience.

If you're looking for a fun movie to get you into the Halloween spirit, this might do the trick. Just make sure you're in a tween state of mind.

Penelope Finds Embraces All Around NYC

Penelope Cruz had a whirlwind weekend of promoting Broken Embraces in NYC. The Vogue cover girl stepped out in a black leather jacket on Friday and a striped shirt the next afternoon for errand-running, but by Saturday evening Penlope was decked out in a sparkly white gown to be honored at a dinner hosted by Paper magazine. Her late night didn't slow her down yesterday, when she did press in a plaid dress before switching into a gray gown for a premiere with director Pedro Almodovar. Her BFF Salma Hayek brought her husband Francois-Henri Pinault along to pose on the red carpet, though Penelope's own man Javier was off letting her shine in the spotlight solo as engagement rumors continue to circulate.

Salma Is Bringing Out Her Vampire Just in Time For Halloween

The newly two-year-old was casual in pink while mom managed to look ready for Halloween in her sharp orange and black without going over the top. This time she skipped the teetering high heels to navigate the city streets with her daughter. Her new movie Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant comes out in two weeks, right in the midst of the undead craze, which earned it a place in our PopSugar Rush Vampire special. Salma herself also got a shout out for her classic and sexy turn as a bloodsucker in From Dusk Til Dawn.

Eva, Salma and Selena Are ALMA Awards Beauties

Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria and Selena Gomez were three of the gorgeous women dressed in their best for the 2009 ALMA Awards in LA last night. Eva Longoria showed off tons of costume changes as she played host for the third year in a row and this time was joined by George Lopez. Selena Gomez took home a statue for Television Comedy Actress and twittered about her fun night. Salma Hayek, who totally looked like a blast from her past in the headband and short sexy dress, was honored with the Anthony Quinn Award for General Excellence. Salma's BFF Penelope actually won as well but wasn't in the house to accept. The show airs tonight featuring performances from David Archuleta, Nelly Furtado and more.

Salma and Francois-Henri's daughter Valentina got to join in the festivities, carried into the awaiting gondolas in the arms of her smiling father. What an amazing way to welcome guests to their wedding - hopefully the bride and groom can focus on the party because the official ceremony part was all the way back on Valentine's Day.
