Cynthia Rowley Surfs With Roxy

Suddenly, Cynthia Rowley seems that much cooler. An avid surfer, she is teaming up with Roxy for a collection named Cynthia Rowley for Roxy. The first collection will launch exclusively at Barneys New York and at Colette in Paris in March. But don't fret beach dwellers: it will also be available in Roxy stores and in Cynthia Rowley boutiques worldwide. The whole Rowley clan hits breaks: "My family and I surf a lot. Just about every weekend in the Summer, we go to Montauk, and in the winter we go to the Dominican Republic for long weekends. I love that we have this family activity that we all really enjoy.”

Partnering with an outside designer to create an apparel collection is a first for Roxy. But the masterminds behind the lifestyle brand know to keep up with the Jones, “Our mission at Roxy has always been to have one foot in the surf world and another foot in the fashion world,” said Randy Hild, executive vice president of marketing at Roxy. Down to the sandy details! Expect Rowley-inspired wetsuits, boards shorts, shorts, tees, dress, swimwear, and accessories. Neoprene headbands? Right on. And, keeping with the affordable Roxy price point, the collection will be priced from $18 wholesale for a printed scarf to $89 wholesale for a long-sleeve bodysuit. Shaka.

Summer Safety: Beware of Beach Sand

Whether you're building sandcastles or just burrowing your feet, getting sandy is an essential part of going to the beach. But if la playa plays into your vacation plans, be warned: beach sand can contain bacteria known to cause stomach bugs.

Though sand often looks and feels clean, remember that germs are everywhere. According to a new study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, young children who dug in the sand raised their risk of diarrhea by 44 percent. Furthermore:

Other studies that have examined the bacteria content of sand at a variety of beaches that were nowhere near a treatment plant have found high levels of E. coli and Enterococcus bacteria in the top eight inches. In fact, levels can be almost 40 times those found in the water at the same beaches.

This doesn't mean that you and your family need to steer clear of sand altogether. Just be sure to keep sand and sandy hands away from your mouth. According to Dr. Philip Kazlow, you won't develop a gastrointestinal illness unless you actually ingest the germs, so just wash your hands before eating or touching your mouth. If you've got little ones, bring along some hand sanitizer to prevent this Summer health risk.

Open House: What Do You Bring to the Beach?

Sometimes it seems as if getting ready to go to the beach takes up as much time as your beach excursion itself does. Whether you're spending time at a Summer beach house, or taking advantage of a sandy-beached lake, if you're going to be in the sun and surf all day, you don't want to forget anything essential. On the other hand, you also don't want to be too weighed down.

I know people who bring coolers, sports equipment, umbrellas, chairs, and more to the beach. Some of my audiophile friends always bring an iPod mini speaker system to the beach, but I prefer to listen to the sound of the waves. My essentials include a big, fluffy towel, sunscreen, a good book, lots of water, and a yummy lunch that won't wilt in the sun. Of course, since my dog is often tagging along, doggy snacks, plastic bags, and a water bowl are also needed. I tend not to bring chairs or umbrellas, since I'm in favor of traveling semi-light for a beach day. What do you need to bring to your beach day?

Ryan Reynolds Is Shirtless Perfection Manjoyment

Lucky. Us. Ryan Reynolds scored the cover of Entertainment Weekly's Summer Must List issue, and the photo shoot included some seriously smoking shirtless shots of the man. Ryan still might be most well known for his ab-tacular role of Van Wilder, but with his X-Men: Origins movie coming up and The Proposal out this weekend, we might just have to consider him an all-around leading man. An all-around leading man with a six pack we love to look at and a sense of humor that makes us swoon. Here are highlights from the article:

On being called a sex symbol: "If you take any of that seriously, you need to be euthanized, ASAP. There are moments when you can use that to your advantage. But it's really embarrassing. I think I fear more than anything just sounding like a complete a--hole when I have to answer that question."
On why he loves playing Deadpool: "At its core, this is a movie about a guy in a red spandex suit who's in the midst of a shame spiral. That cracks me up."
On working with Sandra "We had a kind of Abbott and Costello routine we'd been doing for years anyway . . . When I get someone like Sandy to work with - who's so good at hitting the gas - it's perfect for me."
On why he loves acting: "I've always just liked working. I like being a working actor. There's an old saying that you don't ever finish a movie, you abandon it, and I really believe that. I never walk away from a take and pat myself on the back. You always walk away going, 'Dammit, I should have tried this!' It's that possibility that keeps me coming back for more."

On the Market: The Polaroid Beach House

The celeb-ridden Polaroid Beach House, an infamous party spot frequented by scenesters like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan in Malibu, has just been put on the market for the whopping price of $32 million. The house was basically one big product placement, used by the owners, the Polaroid company, to throw parties for young Hollywood that'd be snapped by paparazzi, discreetly landing their products all over the tabloids. But apparently, that promotional scheme was nixed by "local (rich) neighbors who objected to the around-the-clock revelry in the summer of 2007." This Just In: You Too Can Live Like Goldie Hawn

According to Real Estalker, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have put their ocean-front Malibu hideaway up for rent for the summer at the whopping price of $95,000 per month, from June to September. The listing for the property, which they also rented out last year, reads:

Oceanfront master bedroom suite with awe inspiring views, 2 large guest suites, office, sexy media room, and open kitchen living area overlooking oceanfront patio with intimate fireplace/gathering area and bar b que. I suppose this means the couple doesn't dig the beach as much as their lovely daughter does . . . but then again, Goldie has been looking pretty tan lately. And you too can have that Goldie glow, if you're willing to drop $95k next month, that is.

The OC Better Get Smarter

Luckily Chrismakkah is coming up because last weeks episode was a let down after waiting an entire month. Let's hope this week is not an hour long Sidekick marketing tie-in episode. It was kind of cute at first with Summer and the SK, but then it got annoying.

Bottom line from last weeks episode - Ryan is back at school with Summer and Seth. The kids and Sandy tricked the mean Dean and Taylor into admitting their relationship and now Ryan is re-enrolled with the gang. Well actually Marissa is still at public school but Ryan makes nice with the bizarro group of Seth, Summer, and himself. Sorry but I have barely registered their names since I don't really see a need for the new group.

Something sketchy is going on with Julie Cooper and the gift of an apartment from Charlotte. Kristen is cooking. Things are a little backwards these days in The O.C.

And btw, I went to a school where teacher were totally hooking up with kids and they could have made that storyline so much hotter then a stupid kiss at the dance. Remember Life As We Know It - that show had a super hot student/teacher storyline and I really wanted the Dean and Taylor to get super busted - not lame Sidekicked by Sandy.

The OC is Back and Sweeps Begins

Thank God for November sweeps. After starting off the new season with a bang, a few of our favorite shows have had repeats or filler episodes. Now we can expect a few great weeks of TV with the return of The OC and guest stars on NBC.

Will and Grace has their usual guest stars during sweeps. This week look out for Alec Baldwin, Jason Biggs and my buddy Emil Beheshti! In the weeks to come NBC will have Ellen DeGeneres, Harry Connick Jr., and John Stamos. I love when they have fun new guests.

Kristen is back home and Sandy is happier than ever. Her sneaky friend Charlotte tries to scam her for money but Kirsten doesn't have any now that we found out Caleb was broke.

Caleb and Jimmy are gone which is causing some problems for Marissa and Julie Cooper. The repo guys come to clean out the house. All this happens as Marissa heads off to a new school. She is being stared at and people are calling her names. Not to worry - she soon meets new friends who are clearly the Summer, Seth and Ryan of that school. Sad Ryan drops her off and tries to go on without her but Marissa slowly seems as if she is pulling away.

Summer and Seth continue to feud with Taylor Townsend who for a short second tries to play nice with some sad, sob story, but we don't believe it for a second. The school dance takes place the same night Marissa's new school has a dance. After Ryan tries to hang with Marissa she lies and says she's just gonna chill at home, but then ends up going with her new buddies. Ryan sees this and is heartbroken, but understands. Sumer and Seth head off to their dance.

At the dance is when the real stuff went down. Just as we suspected - the no good mean dean is getting it on with Taylor Townsend. Summer catches them in a kiss and we so can't wait to see what she does next to reveal these two.

Marissa moves in with Summer while Julie Cooper heads to some sleazy motel. Expect a major breakdown from Julie Cooper.

As always the episode ends in love. An upset Ryan is comforted by Marissa as they share a dance in the pool house. How romantic.
