The Lovely Bones — See It or Skip It?
The Lovely Bones is a new movie based on the popular and acclaimed novel by Alice Sebold about Susie Salmon (played by Saoirse Ronan), a teenager who's murdered and the narrates the tale of her family trying to deal with the consequences and search for justice. Rachel Weisz and Mark Wahlberg star as her parents, with Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci also appearing in the film. Peter Jackson directs, and the film is due to be released in January 2010, so check out the trailer and let me know — will you see it or skip it?

Abigail Breslin was inducted into the Girl Scouts earlier this week and it was great to see one of the world's most famous 11-year-olds involved with such a "normal" childhood activity.

First Look: Atonement
I was just saying how super cute I think James McAvoy is and here we are with a new full-length trailer for his WW II period movie Atonement, based on the novel by Ian McEwan and also starring Keira Knightley. Another reason I'm intrigued by this movie: Saoirse Ronan, the young Irish actress who was recently cast to play Susie in Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Lovely Bones plays a key role.
From what I can tell in the trailer, McAvoy's character Robbie and Knightley's character Cecilia are having an illicit love affair when Ronan's character Briony accuses Robbie of something and he's sent away.

Well, it looks like someone in Hollywood agrees with all of you who commented in the casting news about Rachel Weisz and Ryan Gosling joining The Lovely Bones: the girl at the center of the story will not be played by a Fanning, nor is she a mainstream name — yet. Young Irish actress Saoirse Ronan will play the difficult role of Susie, a 14-year-old girl who is raped and killed, and who narrates the story from heaven. Weisz and Gosling will play Susie's parents in Peter Jackson's adaptation of the bestselling novel.
