In the seemingly endless parade of my junior-high sartorial choices coming back zombie-style, the scrunchie has made its triumphant return. American Apparel is selling scrunchies in bright colors ($3.50), a move that brings back uncomfortable memories of at-home spiral perms and prepubescent awkwardness. Personally, I'm running from this trend faster than you can say "Chris, Mark, Red, Dave, Ro."

With all the barrettes, scrunchies, banana, and butterfly clips we could gather, my BFF and I took turns seeing who could create the craziest hairstyle as kids. Although it's rare I slow down enough to smell the Salon Selectives these days (ha), there's still something refreshing about playing at-home beauty shop.
I know I'm not the only one who spent childhood afternoons this way and, I'm not embarrassed to admit, it can still be a fun way to pass the time while watching movies with my mom or sister when I'm home for vacation.
