What better way to celebrate the arrival of Spring shopping than with one of my favorite retailers: Saks Fifth Avenue. Yours truly and Saks kicked off Spring with an event appropriately titled "Worn to Be Wild." I chose some of my favorite trends of the season - Luxotica, Cropped Pants, Disheveled Chic, and Aggressive Shoe, to name a few - and Saks's stylists worked their fashion mojo. Fab hosted, bubbly flowed, people shopped. Everyone left happy. Take a lookie behind the seams . . .

Nothing excites me quite like festive window displays. After all, they combine my love of shopping and the holidays. The grander the designs the better. When it comes to over-the-top, Saks Fifth Avenue's Snowflake Spectacular delivers. For its fifth annual celebration, designers Zac Posen, Tory Burch, and thousands of New Yorkers gathered at the flagship store to unveil the window dressings as well as the vintage-inspired snowflakes displayed in the storefront. Behind the Seams: Opening of Helpers House of Couture

You've heard me mention Joy Bianchi (left) a couple times now. She's the ultimate San Francisco socialite, and someone I hope to be half as fabulous as when I'm her age. She's invited to every glamorous event and dressed to the nines in unique frocks - her designer of choice is Ralph Rucci - but Joy has a generous philanthropic side as well. She runs Helpers of the Mentally Retarded and owns a boutique whose proceeds benefit the organization.

Imagine my joy (pun!) when I was invited to the opening of Helpers House of Couture, an invite-only event that sold couture dresses, designer shoes, hats, and jewels galore - some Joy's, and most donated by upper-crust ladies. I felt like a kid let loose in a candy store, only this candy store had two floors and six rooms stuffed with fashion fabulousness. If money wasn't an object, I would have bought the house and everything under its roof. I did end up scoring two amazing necklaces that I think Kate Moss would be envious of.

Behind the Seams: Nordstrom Fall 2008 Designer Preview

Seeing runway photos is not nearly as enticing as seeing the clothes live, and Nordstrom's Designer Preview 2008 reiterated that fact. For example, Bill Blass's gray/black tulle-bodice strapless dress - you know, the one Anne Hathaway wore at the Get Smart premiere - literally came to life before my eyes on the catwalk. While I admired it on Anne, I fell madly in love with it that night because I saw the way the bottom half of the dress danced as the model pranced down the runway. Donna Karan, Stella McCartney, Derek Lam, Missoni, Valentino, Michael Kors, Peter Som, Burberry Prorsum, Vera Wang, and Versace also each showed about a dozen Fall looks.

The night was centered around the runway, but the pre- and postparty was also a blast. Clothes hanging on tall racks gave guests, including myself, the chance to get up close and personal with their catwalk faves, while champagne and hors d'oeuvres kept us satiated. Oh, and I got to meet the ultimate San Francisco socialite, Joy Bianchi!

Behind The Seams: Barneys Hosts The Launch Of Christian Louboutin's New Fall Collection

I must confess my envy of those Louboutin lovers who were lucky enough to meet the famed shoe designer at the launch of his new 2008 Fall collection at the Barneys-hosted event in Beverly Hills. I would seriously die for a pair of Louboutin's uncompromisingly gorgeous confections.

On top of being able to view his new creations, fans were able to meet Christian and even have their precious Loubs signed by the designer himself. Doesn't he look like a friendly guy? Lucky ducks!

Behind the Seams: Heidi Klum For Jordache Launch Dinner

First she modeled for them and now Heidi Klum has launched a women's clothing collection with denim brand, Jordache. The line of trendy tops and jeans just hit Bloomingdale's so let the shopping begin.

In celebration of the partnership, Heidi and her model friends Erin Wasson, Marissa Miller, and Mini Anden had a fabulous dinner party at the famous Chateau Marmont in LA. But this was no stuffy event, because where there's Heidi, there's fun!

Behind the Seams: A Night of a Thousand Lights

Marchesa, Marchesa, Marchesa. It was all about Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig's creations last night at A Night of a Thousand Lights. The party, which benefited St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in NYC, was attended by none other than fashionable, Marchesa-clad ladies. Diane Kruger, Iman, Michelle Monaghan (whose swirly accordian-pleated dress I want), Joy Bryant, and Mary Alice Stephenson all schmoozed, wined, and dined to the background of a Marchesa fashion show. Behind the Seams: Simon Doonan Barneys Book Signing

Totals. Totally. Totes. Funny words from fashion's funny man, and Barneys creative director, Simon Doonan. Fab was lucky enough to catch Mr. Doonan on a sunshiny day promoting his new book Eccentric Glamour at the Barneys store in San Francisco. As you can see, he practices what he preaches wearing a Moschino jacket yelling the words "Good Taste Doesn't Exist" and a tie that whispers "Fashion is full of chic!" As Simon puts it, "These are all Franco Moschino-isms. He was a genius and a very innovative guy. Not bad for English as a second language." Enough said.

Simon was very calm, friendly, and, of course, witty, and was happy to spill some beans for yours truly. I left the store feeling super inspired to wear my wackiest things and throw all regularity to the wind. I guess Simon has that effect on people.

What jump started this book?

I was horrified by these two trends. One was the slut trend and one was the gun-shy celebrity. So between the super-conservative celebs, who were just wearing prom gowns, and the super-slutty woman, the regular gal on the street wasn't getting any inspiration. The answer is eccentricity. Glamour and eccentricity. It's about looking inside and not looking like everyone else. It's against conformity. If everyone else has it, you don't want it. When people tend to look the same, the It bag, the fake hair, the fake tan - it can make everyone look very similar. It's about working on your own look.

Who are some designers you have your eye on?

I think Phillip Lim is incredibly talented. The Rodarte girls are great. They've gone from being very avant-garde to a place where they're making stuff people cannot just admire but wear. Alexander Wang, the usual suspects. I love Scott Sternberg who does Band of Outsiders - I wear a lot of his clothes myself.

My favorite book of yours is Wacky Chicks. If you were to do a sequel, are there any women you would add to your list?

I would love to do Wacky Chicks Two. That book is now over five years old and a lot of the women in it are median ages, in their 40s and 50s, so there's a whole new generation of wacksters. Amy Winehouse. I strongly disagree with her drug taking - I mean it's insane - but when I was that age I was a mess, too. I think she's triggering a whole movement of eccentricity where people don't want to look like everyone else. She says it's groovy to look completely different and insane; she pulled that beehive out of no where and has her own look. She should be applauded. Because everyone was getting the Kelly Clarkson makeover, everyone ended up looking like pop princesses. What's that about?

That wasn't what we were used to in music. We're used to Annie Lennox, Grace Jones, Siouxsie Sioux - provocative girls who all look different from each other.

Was there anyone on the Oscars red carpet that stood out to you?

Tilda Swinton - she's interviewed in my book. Tilda's genius. I think it's sad that people can't step back and be like: well, that isn't my cup of tea. That whole idea of the fashion police has affected everybody, people have become hypercritical, it's very high school. Everyone's in a tissy about it, it's ridiculous. Instead of just saying, why not?

She's So Unusual: Katy Perry's Outrageous Performance Outfits

Behind the Seams: Stella McCartney Turns on Christmas Lights

Last night, Stella McCartney hosted her annual Christmas lights event at her Bruton Street store. This year, Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt of the Mighty Boosh had the honour of turning them on as they put on their gladrags for the event! Stella received support at the party from her sister Mary, and celebrity pals Twiggy, Carly Lawson, Louise Redknapp and Jamie Redknapp. Stella wore a pair of lace side leggings (£750) with a satin jacket from her own collection, whilst Louise nearly stole the limelight in a see-through black jumpsuit.
