Do It Yourself: iBook Server With Special Bookcover

Most of us store our old, broken laptops on our desks, under our beds or as door stoppers - without spending much time considering more innovative, artistic or geeky ways of housing and using our once beloved machines. Not the case for the folks over at the Chaos 2.0 blog, who turned an old iBook with a faulty screen (as in not working at all) into a server.

While the handy folks from the Chaos 2.0 blog warn they take "absolutely no responsibility for any destroyed iBook," they are featuring a fun Do It Yourself guide on their site. I know that this long list looks scary, but trust me, once you get the hang of it, it'll be a snap the second time around.

First of all, join the Geeky Things I Love
Click "Create and Share!" on the left hand side
Choose "Blog"
Give your photo a Title
Leave the category as "general"
Change the channel to "technology and gadgets"
Add keyword(s) (for example mine for this post was "museum, Lego")
Click on the "Add Image" link below the "body" box
A popup window will happen - click on "Browse" to find your image on your computer
Once you have the image chosen, click "Submit"
The popup will show you your image, choose size: "normal" - if you want, you can give it a title (which will show up as a caption)
Click "Insert" and the popup will go away
Your "body" box will now have some text in it. Leave it as is. If you want to add some text before the picture telling me why you love the download, do it before the code that has appeared.
Click Submit

Since it's Cinco de Mayo, I plan on consuming a lot of my all-time favorite snack: chips and dip! Maybe it's because I'm from a very social family, but when I go to a restaurant I can't help but socialize with my waiters. Whether I'm asking their opinion on the wine list or wondering what their name is, I enjoy chatting with my servers. How about you?

Branch Salad Server: Love It Or Hate It?

In preparing for salad week, I came across these branch salad servers. The motif draws from an old-fashioned design, and yet manages to stay modern. Recently I told you I want to eat more salads. I asked you to help me find some new salad tongs to promote my New Year's resolution. You looked for eclectic tongs that would be wonderful on a dinner-party table. You saved your tongs in the Yum Market on TeamSugar with the keyword tag Salad Tongs.

Handbag and Shoe Dessert Set: Love It or Hate It?

I was looking through ShopStyle Living when I came across this two-piece dessert set ($45). The Neiman Marcus exclusive includes both a handbag and shoe server. They're silver plated and make serving desserts and cakes a little bit more fun. I can see where some folks would find them adorable, but they're just not me. How about you, would these little accessories find their way onto your serving tables?

Money Talk: If a Meal Is Comped Should You Still Tip?

This sticky tip etiquette question comes from Angelica, part of our Money Talk group.

I had brunch with a pal recently at a fairly upscale new restaurant and the entire experience was a bust. We had just worked out and were starving so we put in our order as soon as we sat down. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up over who our server was and we ended up waiting over an hour for our food. When we realized how long it had been and finally caught a waiter, my friend politely reminded her when we'd ordered and the waiter said our meal was next up. That was a lie because they served two tables ahead of us, and when our food did arrive (about 15 minutes later!), my friend's order was wrong. Ultimately, the manager came by the table to apologize and let us know our bill would be comped. When we were finished with our very long brunch, I wanted to leave a tip because I was impressed they were gracious about their mistake, but my friend didn't like the idea of rewarding them after the wait and messed up order. We settled on what was probably a 10 percent tip after agreeing it was kind of them to comp the meal. Do you think we should have left a tip for good measure, or do you think it was unnecessary considering the service?
