John Mayer showed off his eccentric sense of humor and a very sheer t-shirt on his way out of a medical office in Beverly Hills yesterday. In his typical jokey fashion, he wrote on the outside of his prescription bag, "experimental human growth hormone." Oh man, hilarious. Even when John seems a little, well, douchey, I still have much love for him (and it doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes). Plus, seeing him with Jennifer Aniston - and hearing that he makes her happy - always puts a smile on our faces.

Tabatha's Salon Takeover Is Back!

Looking for a dramatic, conflict-ridden show to add to your must-watch TV lineup? Might I recommend Tabatha's Salon Takeover? The reality program, which made its debut on Bravo last year, is set to make its second season premiere on Nov. 3. In case you're not familiar with the premise, Tabatha Coffey, a fan favorite on Bravo's other salon reality program, Sheer Genius, heads into ailing salons with the main goal of transforming them into successful businesses. Of course, there are lots of f-bombs and tears along the way, and it looks like this season, which centers around salons located in LA, Chicago, and Miami, will deliver the same level of no-nonsense action. Will you tune in to see Coffey cracking her whip?

Six Lipstick Tips From Jillian Dempsey

You'll know from my So I Married a Makeup Artist quiz that Grey's Anatomy's Patrick Dempsey is married to none other than celebrity makeup artist and Avon Global Creative Director Jillian Dempsey. And yesterday, I sat in on a call featuring the talented lady, who has worked with Kate Winslet on her cherry-lipped Golden Globes look, along with her shimmery-eyed Oscars style, too.

Over the next few months, Avon will be coming out with a few new lip products (more on those later), but first, I've got some tips from Jillian for making your lips stand out. Find out what they are when you read more.

The "it" color: For Spring and Summer, you can't go wrong with a coral shade, or variations of coral, like pink and orange tones. Of course, nudes and naturals are always excellent choices, too.
Follow the line: One of the biggest mistakes women make is creating a hard line with their lip products. "For best results, blend your lip liner with a touch of lip gloss so there are no hard edges showing under your gloss," she says.
Consider the shape: If you have thinner lips, a dark berry tone will only make them look smaller. Go with a neutral tone for fuller looking lips à la Angelina Jolie.
Play up the pout: When applying a lip plumping product, like Avon's new Utra Color Rich Extra Plump Lipstick ($6), "To complement the look, go for wide eyes with lots of black mascara and keep cheeks neutral so lips stand out," advises Jillian.
Sheer genius: Create a sheer effect by using your fingers to dab on your lipstick.
Choosing a shade: When selecting a shade to wear, Jillian looks at both eye color and what the person is wearing as her guide. She also mentions that it's important to wear what makes you feel comfortable, and that most women easily gravitate toward what colors naturally work for them. Call it women's intuition, if you will.

How-To: Seven Ways to Lay Off the Foundation

With warm weather just around the corner, perhaps you're thinking about laying off the foundation to let your skin shine through. So, how can you make your complexion look nice and even - without a cakey effect - while allowing your natural skin to peep through? It's all about formulation and technique, my friend. Find out my tips on achieving a sheer finish when you read more.

Sheer genius: It might seem obvious, but try a sheer finish foundation. If you're in the market for a new one, try Jemma Kidd Light-as-Air Liquid Foundation ($40) or Mark C-Thru-U Beautifying Sheer Tint ($8).
Brush it on: In a technique straight from Kristen Stewart's makeup artist, apply foundation with a brush for a softer effect. Monika Blunder, who did Kristen's Twilight premiere makeup, used Dior Airflash Spray Makeup ($60) with a brush.
Thin it out: Do the old standby trick of diluting your foundation by mixing it with moisturizer to create your own sheer, tinted moisturizer.
Water it down: Spritz a makeup applicator wedge (the sponge kind) with water or toner, then use it to apply your foundation. This gives a lighter application, and refreshes the face, too.
Make a mist: Apply makeup as you normally would. Next, spritz a makeup applicator wedge with water or a toner, and lightly dab all over the face. This helps soften the appearance of your makeup, and is great for fixing mistakes.
Apply only where needed: Simply use concealer or foundation only where needed, as opposed to all over the face.
Tinted primer: For minimal coverage with a natural, smooth looking finish, you can always go with a tinted primer, such as Laura Geller Spackle Tinted Under Makeup Primer ($23).

2009 Fall New York Fashion Week: Thakoon

There's nothing I like more than a smart, sexy, and sassy collection. Thakoon Panichgul’s collection was all that - and more. For Fall, the designer showed us his wearable yet unique take on feminine dressing with an assortment of pretty silk prints, nude organza, and furry textiles. For cuts, he diversified his offerings to include an array of tailored separates and equally engaging frocks.

I'm smitten over his genius placement of embellishments; check out the awesome sheer slices on this cobalt blue dress. Also, take note of Thakoon's cool prints and occasional pops of bright color. From start to finish, he created a line flowing with distinctive, divine ready-to-wear clothes.

Bella Interview: Shane Paish, Dior Global Makeup Advisor

When Charlize Theron travels the world for red-carpet events, Shane Paish is not far away. As the global makeup advisor for Dior, he comes up with beautiful makeup looks - often while preparing Charlize for the camera.

In between creating these varied makeup looks for her Hancock premieres, he had time for a quick e-mail interview. Along with letting us know that Charlize is "addicted" to L'Or de Vie skin care, he's revealed his inspiration for these looks.

The cities provided inspiration for the Hancock makeup looks. What particularly inspired you? Was it the architecture, the people, its history...?
A mixture of everything, actually. For Russia, the obvious inspiration is the color red and also this very bold, no-holds-barred attitude the women there have towards makeup. Russian women like to be noticed and they love their makeup! So I had a lot of fun with that look; it was very sophisticated and glamorous. Charlize was also wearing this gorgeous red dress so the lips just kind of went along with that. Parisian women, on the other hand, are a bit more sophisticated and subtle. There is an air of sensuality in everything they do, but it's a bit more under-the-radar. Charlize's look for Paris had that cool, avant garde feel-and everyone likes a sexy, smoky eye.

Charlize has fair skin and blonde hair. Which makeup colors flatter this
combination most?
There are two looks that I tend to lean towards when it comes to Charlize. One is the dark, smoky eye and pale lip (she looks amazing in this!) and the other is a softer, more bronzy look: still a smoky eye, but using golds and browns, with pink or peachy lips. I think most people look good in a sheer pink gloss, and a little blush or bronzer never hurt anyone. I'm also a huge fan in general of the smoky eye-it adds instant sex appeal!

After you apply Charlize’s makeup, what happens if she needs a touchup? Are you usually nearby, or is she like the rest of us with a lipstick tucked in her clutch?
Charlize carries Dior blotting papers (genius!) and a lipstick or gloss in her clutch to keep fresh. Pretty simple!

Within the beauty/makeup world, what feels fresh to you right now?
Peachy, coral-y lip colors, and smoky eyes using unexpected shades like bronze and gold. Also, metallics are my absolute favorite right now. They aren't the glittery metallics of years past but more of a sheer glimmer, a glow.

Warning - Tabatha's Salon Takeover is rather addictive. The premise of the show is as follows: Tabatha, a former contestant on Bravo's Sheer Genius, goes into salons, ruffles some feathers, and leaves knowing that she did her best to turn ailing salons into thriving businesses.

Psychologists often say that it's human nature to be compelled to watch disasters, and we've seen quite a few already on this show: A salon owner who licks his clients, a styling chair bolstered into place by cement bricks, and a salon staff member who loses it after too much "friendly" advice from the master stylist, Tabatha herself. So, tell me about your own viewing habits. If you've been watching, what do you think?

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Christian Siriano

While this season's winner is still to be determined, Project Runway alumnus Christian Siriano has since moved on to show his debut collection at New York Fashion Week. Simply put, Siriano did not disappoint. The boy genius pulled out all the stops turning his gift of ruffling, tufting, and ruching into a romantically hip collection.White cotton blouses were embellished with ornate sleeves while neon colors splashed off hues of gray. Thanks to Siriano's ornate folding technique, stiff organza magically turned into elaborate dresses and structured sheer blouses. I especially fancied the ankle skimming pants and liquid silk tops. In the words of Heidi Klum, “Not too many from the show actually pull off a Fashion Week show, and he did.”
