Let's Dish: What Is Your Signature Dish?

At some point in every reality TV cooking competition the contestants are asked to make their signature dish. The dish should define their culinary point of view, highlight their skills as a chef, and be incredibly delicious.

Summing all of these things up (on one plate!) seems like a difficult task. I find it hard to choose one dish that represents my entire cooking style. However, if I had to choose, it would probably be some form of nachos with a cocktail on the side. In my opinion, nachos are the ultimate party food!

Let's Dish: What's Your Signature Drink?

With so many cocktails, beers, and varieties of wine to choose from, it's good to have one standby drink you don't have to think about. Something that every restaurant stocks or every bartender knows how to make - your signature drink, if you will.

That way, if you're feeling undecided, you can just sidle up to the bar and shout your usual order. I tend to change my signature drink every so often, but my go-to beverages include gin and tonics, a Manhattan, or a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Of course, I always need fresh ideas, so tell me: what's your signature drink that you usually order at a bar?

Let's Dish: What's Your Favorite Restaurant With a View?

Recently, I took you with me to Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay, CA, a restaurant with a great view of the Pacific Ocean. I've always been a fan of restaurants that offer views of something other than the parking lot or the dry cleaners across the street - although, of course, it's also important that the establishment keeps it focus on the food, too.

In addition to Sam's, I also happen to love the sweeping bay windows that overlook Ocean Beach (and the Pacific) at The Beach Chalet. And in Chicago, nothing beats The Signature Room, especially at night. Tell me: What are your favorite scenic restaurants?

On Saturday night I was lucky enough to attend Food & Wine's Best New Chefs Dinner at the Aspen Classic. During the event, which was really a food-station mingler, nine of this year's Best New Chefs prepared delicious bites for us to try. Note: Chef Eric Warnstedt of Vermont's Hen of the Wood couldn't be there, but he is also one of this year's best new chefs.

Top Chef Masters: Episode 7

Signature dishes spoke volumes on last night's episode of Top Chef Masters. We kicked off the champions round as the previous episodes' winners - Art Smith, Suzanne Tracht, Rick Bayless, Anita Lo, Michael Chiarello, and Hubert Keller -each returned to make a play at the master title.

The stars of Showtime, the CW, and CBS came together at their TCA party in Pasadena last night. The Huntington Library was bursting with celebrities from all three networks who mixed and mingled at the gorgeous venue. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz looked perfectly petite in her sexy dress as she told us about how well-behaved Bronx is these days. Peter Facinelli and Jennie Garth both had shows to promote, though Peter was also happy to chat about feeling like Robert Pattinson at Twi-Con and heading back to work in Vancouver today!

Weeds hottie Hunter Parrish was happy to joke around about not having any sexy scenes this week though admitted that his comments about High School Musical were totally blown out of proportion: "You know what's funny? I talked about that three years ago when it was relevant and now that it's not relevant at all everyone's talking about it." AnnaLynne McCord is always a blast to chat with and she was so excited to dish on the new season and her desires for a Gossip Girl crossover. Peter Facinelli on Twi-Con: "It was phenomenal! It was probably the biggest event I've been to. 3000 fans from all over. I had a woman come in from Colombia. Another woman came in from Germany. It was pretty amazing. I don't know a lot of fans who would fly in from other countries for a weekend. At one point we were doing a Q & A and we were throwing paper airplanes into the audience that had the casts' signature on them. So I wanted to try and get one in the back [of the room], so I decided to run it to the back. It seemed like a good idea, but halfway through it got really scary. I don't know how I made it back. I thought to myself - now I know what Robert Pattinson feels like."
Ashlee on bringing Bronx to set: "He does [come to set a lot]. He's incredible. He's such a big boy. He's amazing! He's attempting to walk. I can hold him as he tries to walk - he's only eight months. He's learning fast. He's growing! He's such a big boy, it's good. He's nice and healthy and a happy baby, which you couldn't ask for more.
AnnaLynne on her dream Gossip Girl crossover: "I am still sticking to the Gossip Girl crossovers that need to happen. Naomi goes to New York. Beverly Hills girl falls in love with the bad boy - Chuck Bass and Naomi Clark. I very much adore Leighton Meester and that story line with Blair and Chuck but Naomi could come spice it up a little! Why not?
Kevin Williamson on keeping up with cast of Dawson's Creek: "Kerr Smith drove me here. I had lunch with James a couple of weeks ago and we vowed to stay in touch so we've been texting. The only one I haven't seen in a while is Michelle, who is in New York. I see Katie in LA."

Cat Cora Set to Open Disney World Restaurant

It's looking to be quite the year for celebrity chef Cat Cora. Not only does the female Iron Chef have a bun in the oven, but she's also announced she will open her first signature restaurant in Disney World.

The chef, whose Food Network bio says she's currently working on her signature restaurant will open Kouzzina by Cat Cora, a Mediterranean restaurant at Disney's Boardwalk Resort this Fall.

Cora, a native of Jackson, MS, recently opened CCQ, a quick-service barbecue restaurant in Costa Mesa, CA, but the descendant of Greek restaurateurs is famous for her Mediterranean cuisine. Cora says, the new restaurant will feature "time-honored recipes passed down from my ancestors, as well as my favorite Greek and Mediterranean dishes that my family loves."

I'm excited that the Iron Chef will finally have a chance to serve her signature dishes to the public. Are you curious to check out her restaurant?

Meet the Newest Dining Hotspot: The Ballpark

Masaharu Morimoto isn't the only celebrity chef to be serving stepped-up stadium food at future Yankees games. As part of the stadium's new Legends Culinary Series, at select games, famous New York chefs will serve up signature dishes at the stadium's Legends Suite Club.

In addition to Iron Chef Morimoto, the star-studded lineup of chefs will include Alex Guarnaschelli of The Cooking Loft and Butter restaurant, April Bloomfield of The Spotted Pig, and Sirio Maccioni of Le Cirque. Chocolatier Godiva will also be on hand to create signature chocolate desserts.
Food Network has announced that it, too, will be rolling out its first-ever food stands. The stands will feature "quality takes on classic" foods that incorporate "the ethnic cuisines of New York City, Food Network's hometown," according to a statement from the network. Hot dogs, burgers, and fries will be in the mix - but so will Puerto Rican pork sandwiches and Chinese cold noodles.

Since variety is the spice of life, and because dining options at sports events do seem to be trending toward the upscale, I suppose premium dining at the stadium makes business sense. PartySugar and I both agree, however, that canapés can never take the place of chili dogs at the ballpark. What do you think? Would you want to eat gourmet cuisine at a sporting event?
