Sneak Peek! Ann Taylor, Fall '09

Ann Taylor has really stepped it up these days. The retailer adopted a more trend-conscious aesthetic and it recently hired Heidi Klum to be its cashmere model! I'm quite impressed by its Fall collection. There is a look for every girl and the styling has been executed flawlessly. Casual denim, puffer jackets, coats, and wow-worthy red dresses and skirts are all must haves. I'm thinking this Wool Bow Coat ($295) needs to come home with me. Proceed to shop my favorite looks.

Could Natalia Vodianova Be the New Face of YSL?

Yves Saint Laurent has an impressive portfolio of ad campaigns. They star some of the world's best known models including Kate Moss, Claudia Schiffer, and Naomi Campbell. Next season they have recruited another well known face as rumour has it that Natalia Vodianova is to take the reigns.

The Russian beauty was reportedly shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin for the Spring/Summer 2010 campaign. She did attend the show earlier this month in a high waisted leather skirt.

I am already a big fan of Natalia and think it would be great to see more of her! Would you like to see her as the face of the French fashion house?

Banana Republic's Sporty Sleek Spring '10 Collection

Banana Republic is giving me something to look forward to come Spring. Honing in its love for polished sportswear, the retailer sent models down the runway in a fresh collection of denim, chambray shirts, silk tops, moto jackets, refined shorts, classic trenches, and slick chinos. "We’re still a work brand, but we want to have great weekend and going-out clothes, too," said Banana Republic's president, Jack Calhoun. And that they did providing us with neutral-tailored separates along with colorful, silky splashes. I especially love this seafoam silk tunic dress - so luxuriously simple.

While shorts and skirts dominated the runway, cropped pants also played a key role in the storyline. Clean-cut chinos and jeans were cut right above the ankle for a refreshing, chic look. On the accessories front, I adored the straw fedoras and leather-mule sandals. Affordable and amazing - just the way I like it.

2010 Spring Paris Fashion Week: Christian Dior

John Galliano started his Christian Dior Spring '10 show with a literal bang as gunshots and theatrical screaming laid out the framework for his film noir-inspired collection. Set against a gritty, warehouse scene, models with wavy tresses and red lips strutted down the runway in an array of sensual, lingerie-like silk gowns, camisoles, peek-a-boo lace dresses, silk shorts, and and beaded gowns. His ode to '40s Hollywood glamour continued with sharply tailored trench coats - a staple then, a staple today - tiered skirts, corsets, and I even spied a couple of ankle socks paired with sky-high sandals. So Fab.

To add a modern touch to his throwback collection, Galliano paired jackets with leather pants and leggings. Bows, beads, and vibrant sheer organza also injected an interesting flair while multicolor floral prints and gold lamé struck a chord for those in need of extra pizazz. It was all so dramatic. There's a reason I will never tire of Dior.

Trend Alert: Tangerine, Tangerine

How does the Zeppelin song go? "Measuring a summer's day, I only finds it slips away to gray, the hours, they bring me pain . . . " OK, actually kinda depressing. Miranda Kerr is anything but in her tangerine, tangerine. Like my most wanted tangerine Topshop beanie, Miranda's tangy blouse is uplifting. Times are still tough, let's help keep heads up by donning a happy color. Even in small doses, via a belt or bag, tangerine oozes tranquility. Tangerine, tangerine.

Fab Ad: Liz Claiborne, Fall '09

Liz Claiborne creative director Isaac Mizrahi has taken his girls back to the streets. For Spring it was Georgina Stojiljković in the city; for Fall it's Coco Rocha in the country. The Canadian model looks so royal, so mature in her long pleated plaid skirt and plaid shirt. I'm especially taken by the vibrant autumnal hues. And look: Coco's super-red hair sort of matches the roofs of the houses. Equally dazzling in color is the shot of Coco in a grocery store (below). What do you make of Liz Claiborne's Fall ads? If you fancy the plaid-happy clothes, shop them now.

London Fashion Week, Spring 2010: Luella

Luella is definitely a personal highlight of London Fashion Week. Last season was a slight disappointment, but it looks like all is back on track for Spring. The collection included tea dresses with cute Minnie Mouse style polka dots, cut out heart detailing and voluminous skirts. Similarly to Marc by Marc Jacobs, the models were styled with bows in their hair. Colour palette was kept relatively simple with monochrome shades and bright pillarbox red. I can't wait to hear your thoughts on this line.

2010 Spring New York Fashion Week: Derek Lam

Imagination. It's nice to see some imagination. Optimism. Fun. Stars. Derek Lam delivered a highly entertaining collection - you didn't know what to expect next. Carnival colors mixed with womanly separates, all with a '40s flair. Though lovely, this collection left me wondering one thing: where are the gowns? Lam chose to finish his runway lineup with several draped one-pieces. A few fun printed cocktail dresses graced the runway - it was all about legs, legs, legs. Americana-inspired, a star print stole the spotlight, as did as this gold hologram sequined blouse and skirt (looks like a dress, huh?). Teensy jackets, wrap skirts, and corseted dresses, in luxe suede and double crepe, will no doubt prove to be popular. Accessories were equally fun: star-shaped hoop Dean Harris earrings, wraparound belts (one model forgot hers), mini duffel bags, and safari sandals. Some may argue this collection was incoherent, I think that was the intention: unorganized glamour.

2010 Spring New York Fashion Week: Vena Cava

Vena Cava always does things a little differently. Both in show presentation and clothing inspiration; that's why they are a growing fashion force. Vena Cava was at Milk Studios - where numerous designers are showing this time around - and I arrived promptly on time because I heard rumblings the designers were doing a runway show in lieu of their usual presentation style. They did both. It started as a runway show, models perched themselves around and on ladders, then it turned into a presentation - the best of both worlds. The Fiery Furnaces performing live were an awesome accompaniment to the modern, exotic collection. From marbelized prints, to laser cuts, to hints of skin, Vena Cava loves to play. But in a very sophisticated manner. A dress may be baby doll, but it's far from goo-goo-gaa-gaa in a sexy black-rayon jersey and metal safety-pin camisole. The palette was moody - black, brown, grays - but a punchy orange saved it from somber. The orange cupra jersey asymmetrical dress made my heart skip. Lisa and Sophie, the hotshot design duo, continue to experiment with separates. Dresses are always unique, but skirts, jumpsuits, shorts, busters, leggings, and tees were thrown into the mix. Accessories weren't forgotten; stylist Kate Young completed looks with Persol shades, Robert Clergerie shoes, and Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. jewels. Vena Cava - where there's smoke, there's fire.
