Crumpler SLR Camera Bag Holds Lenses, Too

A lot of you really liked last week's stylish DSLR bag, the Acme SLR Bowler Camera Bag, but some voiced concern about there needing to be room for lenses as well.

I couldn't agree more, so I found one that accommodates it all and still looks pretty cute: The Crumpler 4 Million Dollar SLR Bag.

Despite the name, the bag is just $59, and while it's a bit sportier than I prefer, it's still inconspicuous as a camera bag, so it won't point thieves right to your expensive cargo.

Finally! A Chic SLR Bag, Courtesy of Acme

I think if you read this site, then you know that plain black sporty-looking nylon just will not do to tote around my gadgets. I've found chic cases for my cell phones, my laptop, and my iPod, but I have had a heck of a time trying to find a bag for my DSLR.

It's over now - Acme Made has introduced their $40 SLR Bowler Camera Bag, which is cute in its own right, but I seriously love that it's not obviously a camera bag. That makes me feel safer traveling on public transportation with it, but at the same time, check it out - it fits in there perfectly and even has side pockets for your memory cards. Consider my Christmas list started.

I snapped this pretty picture of the Golden Gate Bridge and bay with my Nikon Coolpix S200. I love the camera because it takes good pictures and is light and fits in my bag, but I'm ready to graduate to an SLR for more advanced options. I don't really have any special technique. I just love taking pictures and capturing moments that make me feel something.

My hunt for the perfect accessories for my DSLR continues. The Crumpler bag is cute and sporty, and the ACME Made bag is fun, but they both lack a place for big lenses.

The Shootsac ($180) picks up the slack by providing a safe and attractive place to store your lenses (not to mention memory cards and your cell phone).

Banana Republic Debuts Its Leather Camera Bag

As far as I know, Banana Republic hasn't really been in the gadget accessory game, but all the same, I'm happy to see its (maybe) first: the new Leather Camera Bag.

At 11 inches by 13 inches by 4 inches, the size is big enough for your SLR, and it's nice, simple, but luxe looks nab it a spot in my roster of stylish SLR camera bags.

But it is also $148 - pretty pricey. Such is beauty, I suppose.

Geek Out: Do You Use Your Cell Camera More Than the Real One?

These days everyone is a street photographer. I usually carry my camera in my gigantic bag 'o gadgets, but on the rare occasion I don't have it with me I am quick to whip out my cell phone and capture the sunset or my best friend's baby. That's just what Twitpic was made for, right?

Most of you admit you put great care into selecting a phone with a quality camera because you expected to use that bad boy. Do you find yourself snapping scenes with your cell camera more often than you whip out your digital camera or SLR?

Hands On With the Canon T1i (Now With More Photo Tips!)

I finally got some time over the weekend to play around with the Canon T1i and the verdict stands: it's amazing! Not only are the pictures crisp and clear, but overall, the camera is a joy to use. I bought an inexpensive camera bag from Best Buy last week to protect it while en route to various places in the city, and quickly realized how light the T1i really is - a few times I panicked because I wasn't sure the camera was actually in the bag! Needless to say, my heart got a few good workouts in.

I even tagged along with PetSugar to the Ugliest Dog Contest to put the T1i through some trials, and I'd have to say the pictures turned out really well, even if the dogs were really ugly! While out and about over the weekend, I also remembered a few tips that I forgot since getting my first DSLR. Read the manual: Although I'm familiar with SLR settings, it's always good to really get to know your camera from the inside out. That way, you'll never miss an opportunity to use a cool feature.
Pick up a UV filter: You're going to be spending a lot of money on your camera, and even more when you start buying extra lenses. Pick up a UV filter to protect your lens from sun damage. Think of it as sunscreen for your expensive camera parts!
Brace yourself: This rule doesn't only apply to SLR photography - use your arms and brace them up against your body for steadier shots. Don't point your elbows out to the sides (as demonstrated in this photo), as this may create movement and thus blurry photos if you aren't super steady on your own.
Assume the position: When you're done snapping your photo and are carrying your camera over your shoulder, make sure you always point your lens inward and toward your body. This protects the lens from bumping into any objects and saves you tons of money in repairs or replacement lenses.

Photo Tip: Use a Compact Mirror to Add and Diffuse Light

In my favorite simple SLR tips, I recommended that you either replace your onboard flash with a separate flash that can be angled to diffuse light or to use a diffuser for the best results when you're shooting indoors. My next tip is another way to diffuse light - but this tool is something you probably have in your makeup bag right now.

A compact mirror can bounce the light from your flash just like a diffuser you buy does. With your camera pointed at your subject, hold a compact open and angled in front of the onboard flash. When you shoot, the flash bounces and adds light to dark areas around the subject and gives a nice, natural light on to your subject (which would have otherwise been harshly washed out with a flash alone).

That said, after testing this trick myself, I will say that my separate flash I paid extra for diffuses light a bit better, but the mirror trick works great in a pinch.
