Buzz In: Which Reality Stars Deserve a Spinoff?

This isn't exactly breaking news, but Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt started the rumor mill up again when they mentioned that they're shopping around their own spinoff from The Hills. The show would focus more on their everyday lives and acknowledge their "fame", which apparently has risen to such levels that they've gone and written a book about it.

I'm kind of over The Hills in general, and I think there are plenty of former (or current) reality stars out there who are more deserving of his/her own show. How about Taylor from The Rachel Zoe Project or Santino from Project Runway? Who do you think deserves his or her own reality show?

Is Cell-Phone Snooping Ever OK?

Is going through someone's text messages OK if you suspect he's up to no good? That was the question on The Hills this week: Heidi goes through Spencer's text messages, finds a text from a bartender he'd been flirting with, and promptly deletes it. In therapy, all Spencer can talk about is how Heidi shouldn't have gone through his phone. I hate to agree with Spencer, but I'd be annoyed too.

After getting into a tiff with Audrina at Heidi’s 23rd birthday party on last night's episode of The Hills, Kristin discovers that Justin and Audrina had a secret meeting. That burns. As a result, Kristin declares she is both done with Miss Patridge, along with good old Justin Bobby. In the meantime, Heidi gets two puppies from Spencer as a birthday gift, in hopes that his wife might be distracted from all that baby talk. Buzz Battle: Kristin Cavallari as the New Face of The Hills

The editors here at BuzzSugar stand united in our undying love for all things pop culture, but we don't always see eye-to-eye on every topic. After checking out the premiere of The Hills, this morning's water cooler discussion quickly evolved into a debate about whether or not the show can survive with Kristin in Lauren's place.

In corner number one we've got editor B, who is ready to cancel her season pass to the show after last night's episode. In corner number two, we've got editor S, who couldn't be more thrilled to welcome Kristin to the show. We've both compiled our strongest arguments, so check out both sides of the story and weigh in for yourself when you read more.

Editor B: Let me start by saying that I am not a Cavallari hater. I thought she was adorable and entertaining on Laguna Beach. The problem is that her sassy, bad-girl attitude doesn't make her unique anymore. Now she just seems like one of those girls that peaked in high school and never got over it. LC may not have been the most dramatic character on the show, but I appreciated that she kept it real instead of blatantly starting fights five minutes after walking into a party.
Editor S Rebuttal: By replacing LC with Kristin, The Hills just flipped the script. Within ten minutes of this week's premiere, there's a screaming match (Audrina had to be held back!). The show hasn't seen action like this since Lauren hollered that Heidi knew what she did outside of a nightclub ladies room in season three. Last night, no one stared at each other with emotive eyes and pregnant pauses. They talked, they flirted, they yelled. Thanks to Kristin, The Hills is fun again!
Editor B: Her valley girl voice is annoying me more than ever.
Editor S Rebuttal: Have you ever heard Spencer's voice? Hasn't stopped me from watching yet.
Editor B: It's hard to root for a protagonist that you repeatedly want to kick in the shins. I used to think Stephanie and Audrina were whiny, but now I can't blame them for leaving the show.
Editor S Rebuttal: After four seasons of feeling sympathy for LC (someone's being mean to Lauren, someone's lying about Lauren, someone's hooking up with Lauren's maybe boyfriend), it's refreshing to root for a live wire. Kristin's not sympathetic and she doesn't need your sympathy. There's only so many female friendship dilemmas you can go through, and The Hills has gone through them - really, is it a big deal if Lauren hangs out with Lo more than Audrina?! I'm sick of smeared mascara and tearful conversations; I'm ready for stilettos and scheming.
Editor B's closing argument: I'll give her a few more episodes, but I have a feeling that this show is a sinking ship and KCav is the captain. With LC gone, it's like back-to-back obnoxious scenes featuring Kristin and Spencer. There's only so much a person can take!
Editor S's closing argument: Did you see the previews for the coming season? Kristin will get put in her place by Jayde and the catfights are only starting. If the rest of the season is as juicy and action-packed as this week's episode, then I have my new Tuesday night destination for guilty, mean girl pleasure.

In the meantime, Heidi drops hints about wanting to have a baby and volunteers to babysit the neighbor's nephew, but Spencer is having none of it. The Hills: A Surprisingly Chaste Discussion of Chastity

Even if I didn't save myself for marriage, I have friends who did, often for religious reasons, and it was sweet to imagine them having a real "wedding night" on their wedding night. On last night's episode of The Hills, Heidi's Southern-Baptist high-school boyfriend, Colby, and his girlfriend come to visit; the couple doesn't drink and sleeps in separate hotel rooms. They're very open about the fact that they're waiting to do "it" until saying "I do."

If the other option is turning out like Spencer Pratt, maybe saving yourself for marriage isn't a bad idea. And as I recently learned, there doesn't necessarily have to be a separation of church and sex. How do you feel about the idea? Did you wait until marriage to do the deed? Did you have friends who did?

The Hills and The City Are Back Tonight - Which Are You More Excited About?

Forsaking the old Monday night time slot, The Hills and The City have both moved to Tuesday nights, beginning with tonight's premieres. A new night is not the only thing that's different about MTV's cornerstone reality shows: over on The Hills, Lauren Conrad is gone, replaced by her old Laguna Beach nemesis/all-around bad girl Kristin Cavallari.

The City has also had a few cast shakeups; buddy Erin and feuding couple Allie and Adam are all out, and new roommate Roxy and Elle PR villainess Erin are in. We already got to see some of the changes on camera in last week's sneak peek clips, and I have to say, I'm a little more excited about The City than The Hills. It looks to be more intriguing than last season, where the story revolved around Whitney's relationship with Jay.

But back in L.A., with Lauren gone, I worry there won't be a stabilizing force - leaving nothing but all-out antics from Heidi, Spencer, Audrina, Justin Bobby, and Kristin. Or maybe it'll just be a super big time extra guilty pleasure. So which one are you looking forward to tonight?

Could You Get Rich Playing Therapist to Your Friends?

The Hills returned last night with many heart-to-heart talks - some of them surprising, others predictable. In the second episode of the new season, Stephanie and her brother Spencer have it out over how he treats Heidi. In the clip below, Stephanie points out that he's not exactly treating Heidi well and claims, "If I was a therapist, I'd be a millionaire with how many conversations I have with Heidi."

I can definitely identify with that one; some of my friends would owe me serious cash if I started charging for my services, but I don't mind. How about you: Do you have a friend whose therapy needs could make you millions?

Sneak Peek Clips From The Hills and The City Premieres!

I don't know what I'm going to do when the double-header of The Hills and The City premieres next Tuesday. The shows are airing in the standard 10/10:30 p.m. slots, which means that I'll probably be watching them right after 90210 and Melrose Place - if my brain doesn't explode from all that salaciousness first.

We already saw one preview clip from The Hills, so we know that the show is going through a major overhaul - Lauren's out, Kristin's in - that's sure to create more cat-clawing drama than ever. But now we have three new MTV clips, and judging by the video from The City that's below, it looks like the frosty Olivia may have finally met her match, too. Will you be watching?
