I am all about multi-tasking these days. So why should I expect less from my food? Here's a spicy rub to use on salmon steaks to reap the benefits from both the hot spices and the omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon.

After pigging out on hot dogs, steak, and potato salad all weekend, tonight I'm in desperate need of something lighter like grilled fish.
This grilled salmon with spicy honey basil sauce sounds delicious! The fresh salsa is crunchy and cool and the salmon is moist and flaky.

As much as I love a delicious grilled steak and a juicy bbq chicken, sometimes I get a little tired of the classic standbys. A whole salmon screams summer and makes for a perfect dinner party dish. Serve with a side salad and grilled tomatoes for a scrumptious, healthy well balanced meal.

One of the ways my dad first introduced our family to fish was by serving it with a fresh fruit salsa. He would take a mild flaky fish, like mahi mahi or halibut, and top it with a mixture of pineapple, strawberries, and melon. This recipe applies the same technique to grilled salmon.

When thinking of food as medicine, we have gotten a little reductive. By trying to find the one active ingredient that makes a food healthy, we have forgotten about the food itself. Omega-3 fatty acids found in fish have been found to fight inflammation and reduce depression.

If you're looking to cut calories at lunchtime (or anytime really), ditch the fatty salad dressings and try topping your veggies with salsa instead. This south of the border condiment is incredibly low in calories; two tablespoons contains just eight calories. The tangy tomato concoction offers a spicy kick with plenty of flavor to go around, making salads anything but dull.

Black Cohosh Doesn’t Help Hot Flashes
- The herbal remedy black cohosh is no better than placebo for treating hot flashes and night sweats, according to a 2006 study in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
- Most complementary and alternative medicines are ineffective for relieving menopausal symptoms, according to a 2006 review in the Archives of Internal Medicine.
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)
- Short-term use of HRT remains an option for recently menopausal women who have a low risk for stroke, according to a 2007 statement from the North American Menopause Society (NAMS). However, NAMS recommends that women who are at risk for heart disease or breast cancer should consider other approaches for managing hot flashes.
- For women who want to discontinue HRT, gradually tapering off the medication or stopping it abruptly appears to make little difference in the recurrence of symptoms, suggests a 2006 study. A gradual approach may delay the reappearance of symptoms, but does not prevent them from returning.
HRT and Heart Disease: Timing Counts
Women who begin HRT within 10 years of menopause have a much lower risk for heart disease and heart attack than women who start HRT later on, indicates a 2007 study in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

Chili's is one of those chain restaurants that I'm sure we've all been to at least once. This bar and grill has just about everything from wings to soup, from fajitas to steak. With such a diverse menu, it's nice to see there are some healthier options to choose from like salmon, grilled chicken, and salads.

Spicy wasabi peas can kick up your party-food spread, and this popular snack can do the same for a thick piece of salmon. The sinus-clearing punch of horseradish mellows out when the peas are ground up and used as a coating on roasted fish. Zest of lime and shredded cabbage make for a pretty plate, while another pea — sugar snap — offers even more crunch with a touch of sweetness.
