What's Your Favorite Steakhouse Side?

Few things can top a quality steak dinner as one of my all-time favorite meals - although I must admit that half the reason I look forward to going to a steakhouse is for the classic sides. The one side I'll always order is creamed spinach, especially the version from the House of Prime Rib. What's your favorite side? Specify in the comments below!

Halle Has a Sweet Day of Spas and Steak

Halle Berry showed off her stylish bangs yesterday in LA as she visited a spa and met up with girlfriends for dinner at BOA Steakhouse. She told Jay Leno last week that she isn't pregnant, so Halle went right ahead and enjoyed wine with her meal. Even though Halle has been all about covering her tummy and rocking flowy shirts, it looks like for the meantime adorable Nahla will continue to be the sole apple of her parents' eyes.

Fast & Easy Dinner: Steak and Potato Salad

Tonight serve your loved ones a meal inspired by the classic steakhouse dinner of meat, potatoes, and wedge salad. The potatoes are roasted in the oven, while the ribeye steaks are seared on the grill. A quick but wildly flavorful salsa verde (a mixture of chives, capers, oregano, thyme, and garlic) coats the cooked and crispy potatoes. Serving the potatoes and steak on a bed of crunchy romaine lettuce makes this a balanced meal that's sure to be enjoyed by all.

Steak and Potato Salad
From Better Homes and Gardens

Ingredients

2 lbs. small new Yukon Gold potatoes, halved or quartered
2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
1-1/2 to 2 lb. ribeye steaks, cut 1-inch thick
2 heads romaine lettuce
1/2 cup chopped Italian (flat-leaf) parsley
1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
3 tablespoons chopped chives
3 tablespoons drained capers
2 teaspoons chopped oregano
1 teaspoon chopped thyme
2 cloves minced garlic
5 green onions, thinly sliced

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place potatoes in a 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon of the olive oil; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Toss to combine. Roast, uncovered, 50 to 60 minutes or until tender. Cool slightly.
Meanwhile, brush remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil on steaks. Season with salt and pepper. For charcoal grill, grill steaks on rack of uncovered grill directly over medium coals, 10 to 12 minutes (145 degrees F for medium-rare), turning once. (For gas grill, preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place steaks on rack over heat. Cover; grill as above.)
Slice romaine into six 2-inch-thick slices, reserving tops for another use.
In bowl combine parsley, 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil, chives, capers, oregano, thyme, and minced garlic. Season with salt and pepper.
Place slice of romaine on each serving plate; drizzle; with 1/2 of the salsa.
Toss warm potatoes with remaining sauce and green onions. Spoon onto romaine. Thinly slice steak and place on top of potatoes.

Serves 6.

Suspended David Beckham Unwinds With Victoria and Cruz

The Beckhams went to dinner at Mastro's Steakhouse in LA last night, with Victoria back from her trip to Boston. She's been temporarily taking Paula's spot, and now more guest judges have signed on as Miss Abdul hints she has something new in the works. Now that Posh is home, she'll have more time to spend with Becks since he won't be playing in tomorrow's game due to his red card suspension. That may be so, but he's still going strong beating Shia LaBeouf in our Hottest Shirtless Guy contest. Don't forget to submit your votes before the third round ends tonight!

Momofuku's David Chang Talks Sabbaticals and San Francisco

We've always been huge fans of New York chef and restaurateur David Chang: He was Sugar's pick for Best Restaurant Chef of 2008. By fusing innovative flavor combinations and haute kitchen techniques with casual dining, the Momofuku overlord revolutionized the restaurant scene in America.

What's most refreshing about Chang, however, are his irreverent demeanor and unapologetic opinions. Even though I'd interviewed him before, when I heard Chang and his co-author, New York Times writer Peter Meehan, were in town promoting their new bible, the Momofuku Cookbook, I couldn't resist chatting with them. His two cents on culinary trends, TV, and Top Chef Masters, after the jump.

Steak n' Legs or How Maxim Is Opening Several Steakhouses

Now that Joe Francis is in jail, the plans for the Girls Gone Wild restaurant are probably on hold. If this leaves you worrying where you'll go for your steak n' legs dinner then fear no more, Maxim Prime is opening in late March. Restauranteur Jeffrey Chodorow - you may remember him from NBC's The Restaurant - has announced plans to open Maxim Prime, a joint venture with Maxim magazine. The restaurant will be located in New York's Gansevoort Hotel and has a scheduled late March opening. Another branch will be located in Atlanta's Glenn Hotel and 13 other locations will open over five years. Chodorow has said that he does not want it to be like Hooters. Instead he has said it will be, "sexy but sophisticated." Unlike traditional steakhouses, the portions will also be smaller and lighter. Chodorow said:

The people who leave here are going to go someplace else - maybe dancing. They're not going to go home and go to bed.

So if you live in the Atlanta or New York areas, be sure to check it out and report back. I want to know what "sexy but sophisticated" is like. I mean they never said it wasn't going to be "sleazy."

Robert Pattinson and His Twilight Boys Stay Social in Vancouver

Robert Pattinson looked like he had a fun Saturday night out on the town in Vancouver as he headed home with his shirt buttoned up all kinds of messy. It was a deserved break after a long week of work which included filming with Kristen Stewart and Billy Burke. Burke headed back to LAX Saturday after shooting the scenes with his onscreen daughter. Xavier Samuel was also strolling around Vancouver yesterday afternoon and last night Kellan Lutz, Bryce Dallas Howard and a few cast members got together at Gotham's steakhouse for one of their famous group dinners.

KFC Being Sued Over Kentucky Grilled Chicken

KFC's Kentucky Grilled Chicken made quite the headlines when it first hit the market - and the media attention doesn't look like it's about to stop. Yesterday vegetarian advocacy group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, or PCRM, announced its plans to sue KFC, alleging the chain failed to warn customers that its grilled chicken contains a carcinogen.The cancer-causing compound in question? PhIP, an amino that can be found in grilled meat. PCRM says it submitted samples to an independent lab that confirmed the presence of the carcinogenic compound in all pieces.

The suit follows a similar 2008 PCRM case against McDonald's, Burger King, Chick fil-A, Chili's, Applebee's, Outback Steakhouse, and TGI Friday's. Burger King, the only chain that wound up settling with the advocacy group, now posts signs inside its California locations warning against the possible presence of PhIP.

Burning Question: Why Does Spinach Make Your Teeth Gritty?

Not too long ago, I enjoyed my favorite steakhouse side, creamed spinach, with a reliable hunk of aged meat at the House of Prime Rib. I hadn't had the dish in a while, and when I took my first bite I instantly remembered what it felt like to have "spinach teeth" - a gritty, uncomfortable sensation that one experiences after eating spinach. Why, I wondered, does spinach leave your teeth feeling rough?For starters, spinach grows best in sandy soil, so the grittiness may very well come from actual sand if it's not been thoroughly washed. But on top of this, the plant's leaves contain a high amount of oxalic acid crystals, which spread onto the teeth during the chewing process, resulting in a chalky sensation in the mouth. Spinach teeth may be enhanced when the vegetable is eaten with iron-rich substances like milk, which explains why the phenomenon is so detectable with creamed spinach.

Gwen Gets Lingerie and Steak For Lunch

Gwen Stefani was back in LA yesterday after her family's recent trip to Hawaii for the last show on her tour with No Doubt. She met up with friends at BOA Steakhouse, but the first thing on her agenda was a stop by the lingerie store Agent Provocateur. Gwen manages to spice up her looks on stage or on the street with colorful undergarments, and it looks like she picked something new up to add to her personal collection or give to a pal.
