My plastic trash can is smelling not-so-fresh these days. Although I originally scoffed at the price of this VIPP Kitchen Bin ($319), the odor-reducing quality of steel is seeming more and more valuable to me — especially considering how many pricey Diptyque candles I've bought to mask the smell of my garbage can. Then again, a good hose-down would do the trick, too.

Instead of melting into the landscape, the Bridge House, as it's been dubbed, holds its own, literally bridging the ravine it sits above.
This long, sleek home is built on 15 acres of Marin grassland in Northern California. Only 22 feet wide, the two-story, 5,500-square-foot two-level home's innovative design won it an Excellence in Architecture award from the San Francisco chapter of the American Institute of Architects last year.

The Profile Table ($4,500) from South African studio Gregor Jenkins Design combines the traditional, curvy look of turned wood with the striking edge of industrial steel. It's a sophisticated compromise for a couple with tastes on opposite ends of the classic/contemporary spectrum. I'd love to see it surrounded by classic café bentwood chairs to add some depth and a natural texture.

Stainless steel has magical deodorizing/odor neutralizing power that can wipe the pungent scents from things like garlic, onion, and fish away from your skin. There isn't a clear chemical explanation for this, but it's been hypothesized that sulfurous compounds are somehow catalyzed by the steel. So, some clever entrepreneur came up with a stainless steel "soap" product, essentially a block of metal in soap shape, to rid your skin of whatever stink ails you.

Danielle Steel has sold more than 550 million copies of books in 47 countries and 28 languages, but she's not just a best-selling author. She's also a mother of nine, a philanthropist and a perfumer. Danielle by Danielle Steel was released a few months ago, but somehow this scent flew under my radar.

Hugh Jackman is no stranger to a little heavy metal after spending so much time in Wolverine's claws, but he'll be all man in his next project. Jackman is in talks to star in Real Steel, an upcoming family film from Dreamworks set in the future. The movie follows a father and son duo who work to get a boxer back into fighting shape.

The Republican party broke new ground last week by electing an African American to head its national committee for the first time. In some of his first remarks as chairman, Michael Steele took the opportunity to oppose Obama's stimulus plan Saturday, saying: I know we're living in the era of bipartisanship. I thought it was very important to send a signal, and you sent it loudly, very clearly, that this party, the leadership of this caucus, would stand first and foremost with the American people.

Yesterday was the last semi-final of Britain's Got Talent, with the absolutely fantastic young dancer Aiden Davis deservedly getting the public vote, and nervous young singer Hollie Steele getting the judges' nod to go through to tonight's big final! Other acts that performed were cuddly dancers The Dreambears, singing family Good Evans, juggler Luke Clements, singer and guitarist Mark Matcham, dance troupe DCD Seniors and soprano Greg Pritchard. It was an emotional night as young Hollie's nerves got the better of her and she had to stop her song, but Simon stepped in and demanded that she should be given a second chance.

"The trap here for the GOP I think is enormous. I know that a lot of folks want to do the knee-jerk, you know, let’s start slammin’ and rammin’, but I think we really need to take a step back from this and deal with two things. One, the historic aspect of it, OK, acknowledge it but then move on to the substance of the conversation about what this woman believes and why she believes it."
