Stella McCartney Does It Again With Sheer Stella

Apples and lemons and flowers, oh my! Sheer Stella, $52, is the newest limited edition fragrance by Stella McCartney that will be released in just two short weeks - and let me tell you, it's worth getting giddy about!

This might be the most delicate and refreshing scent that I have ever encountered. It reminds me of her original fragrance, Stella, yet it is more floral and not nearly as heavy. This summer scent is made from hearty roses, green apples, peony, lemon zest and amber.

The bottle is also equally grand. It's something that you'd be proud to display on a shelf. Would you really expect anything less from such a fab designer?

The bottle is a bit retro and was inspired by nature. It has a chic angular shape, with pink tinted perfume inside the clear bottle with metallic silver flowers layered throughout. Not only does this fragrance smell luxurious, but it looks it too! It is available in a 3.3 oz Eau de Toilette only. You excited yet?

Let's talk pantyhose for a sec. I wore black sheer hose quite a bit last Winter - sometimes opaque tights felt too conservative. I know it's very Working Girl, but it's a sexier alternative to tights. Case in point: Liya Kebede in a satin Stella McCartney Resort dress and sheer hose. The whisper light hosiery allows her glowing skin to shine, and they look adorable with her dainty sandals. Holiday dressing lesson learned. Click through for more style lessons!

Is it me, or is it getting chicer in here? Maybe it's the changing of the season, but I had a lot of favorites this week. Let Kerry Washington and Naomi Watts be an example of the style splendor I speak of. If these two powerful women were walking toward me, I'd move out of the way, but ask them where they got their fine duds first. Kerry was a modern lady in her sheer Malandrino blouse and black pencil skirt. Naomi looked darn cute in her cropped Stella McCartney suit and cool aviators. Paris Fashion Week, A/W 2009: Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney is famous for her tailoring and her laid-back cool approach to fashion. This season was no exception as she presented her Autumn line in Paris yesterday to a star-studded front row. One of the best thing about Stella's designs is that they're wearable, sexy but yet still comfortable which was shown through slinky bubble mini dresses. For this partywear she combined silk and sheer fabric for a fun thigh skimming look.

There are never any animal products in her collection so she added texture with loopstitch wool coats that looked cosy enough to snuggle up in and a non leather sheen cupro biker jacket.

Tailoring came in the shape of her signature boyfriend jackets with long lapels teamed with leggings or ankle grazer trousers. Accessories included thigh-high knitted silk or perforated faux-leather boots, skin tight ankle boots and elbow length gloves.

Spring Peek: Metallica

Metallics are nothing new. But blinding beading, luxe fabrics, sheer sheen, Lurex lovin', and sequin overload, were runway dominant. Think of it as an evolution; this season's offerings are far from shy, they are as heavy hitting as Metallica. In-your-face, it's time to shine shine shine.

Can you refuse Versace's gold and silver beaded mini dress? I didn't think so. Yves Saint Laurent's forest green sequin jumper may be overboard for some, but I wouldn't kick it out of my bed. Lastly, I die for Karl Lagerfeld's silver liquid gown. Metal heads, are you with me?

Beauty Masterclass: Super Natural Trend

So it may be the middle of summer, but smart beauty junkies are already practicising a natural, yet polished, look that's straight off the 2008 Autumn/Winter catwalks. Dubbed the 'super natural' look by makeup artists, Calvin Klein, Valentino and Stella McCartney all showcased glowing skin, with a natural-looking flush and minimum fuss.

It's all about enhancing your natural beauty, and not wearing makeup as a mask. Think clean, clear skin and illuminated features, such as sheer, nude lips, lightly mascara'd eyes and subtle creamy blush. Here's how to do it:

FACE Make sure you look after your skin with a regular routine of cleansing, toning and moisturising, so you'll need a minimal base. Next use an illuminating mineral primer, such as Becca's, (£33). Then add a light but even layer of foundation. Try Max Factor Miracle Touch Foundation, (£11.95). Then dust with a layer of translucent powder.
EYES Copy the Prada show where eyes were left almost bare. Just coat lashes once with brown or black mascara. If you want to add more glow, a few dots of Benefit's HighBeam, (£15.50) just below the brows will open up the eyes.

CHEEKS At the Valentino shows, models had a healthy flush. Use a berry-coloured cream blusher like Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge, (£16).
LIPS This look is all about a youthful insouciance. So keep lips nude with just a touch of sheer gloss. I like Max Factor Lipfinity, (£8.99), in shimmering pink and gleaming coral. The double-ended gloss colours can be layered for an ultra pretty effect.

Fashion Metamorphosis: Chloé

If we're going to talk about fashion metamorphoses, we can't overlook Chloé. That would be like talking about chocolate and not mentioning Godiva. Like many fashion houses, Chloé has changed hands several times, but what makes it stand out is its desirable roster (Karl Lagerfeld in the late '60s, Stella McCartney in late '90s, and Phoebe Philo from 2001-2006). Many fashion insiders, including myself, were shocked by the recent announcement that creative director Paulo Melim Andersson was being replaced by former assistant director to Valentino, Hannah MacGibbon. The reason behind the split is unknown, though some attribute it to a difference of opinion over where the brand should be headed.

Naturally, with the change of hands at fashion houses, the designs will vary slightly or drastically. In Chloé's case, I'd say it's been more subtle than drastic. Founder and French designer Gaby Aghion, who invented Ready-to-Wear as a rejection of the stiff formality of the '50s fashion, set the tone with soft, body-conscious clothes. Karl brought in romance with gauzy blouses and long skirts. Stella (left) threw in a streetwise mix of vintage lingerie to the romance, while Phoebe (center) injected sexy daywear and fluid lines. Though short-lived, Paulo (right) took Chloé to a more artsy place. One similarity to note between all Chloé designers is the innovative use of sheerness. We have yet to see what Hannah will do for the brand, but there's a good chance she'll reenact the Phoebe Philo years since she worked closely with the designer, originally as a part of the design team and later as chief designer. I'll take that and I'm sure Chloé-fan Kate Bosworth will agree!

Love it or Hate it: Madonna's Birthday Style

The Queen of Pop Madonna celebrated her 50th Birthday this weekend in London. Her and husband Guy Richie headed off to Volstead in the West End for plenty of dancing ahead of Madonna's tour. Her tour costume has been created by the top names in the fashion industry including Ricardo Tisci for Givenchy. Hardly surprising then that she opted for a Givenchy outfit to party in! Madonna wore a sheer black and gold dress with thigh-high Stella McCartney boots and a heap of gold Givenchy jewellery featuring gothic Christian crosses. Her hair was loose and wavy. Trend Alert: Lace

It is a well known fact of fashion, that where Miuccia Prada leads, the rest of us follow.

It was she who revitalised the trend for heavy, boiled wool, paired stilettos with socks, and has such an open distaste for what she perceives as constrictions in fashion, you could almost credit her with kick starting the current love affair with mixing it up – think vintage garments worn with ultra-modern pieces, as well as a clashing of colours and textures.

So when Mrs Prada showed elegantly grown-up lace in her autumn/winter 2008 collection, the fashion world took note. Think layers of dark, Italian Bordello-style lace, worn over simple blue shirts, or layered with stern black jackets, for an erotically charged, silhouette. The shapes themselves were understated and ladylike. Not-too-tight pencil skirts hit the knee, and tops were long sleeved and high-necked. Shoes – the main story this season, as they have been at Prada for the past few years, were chunky creations in bronze, black and brown, with fluted leather fans coming out the back of the heel.

This look ties in to the Dark Romantic trend – more black lace at Chanel, leather at Givenchy, sheer black at Lanvin and Chloe, and crochet black dresses at Stella McCartney. The vibe is Film Noir – undercover sensuality, wrapped up in a sophisticated and dramatic guise.

Wear with killer shoes and va va vamp lips. What could be more desirable?

A Beauty of Roses

Call me old-fashioned but the classic, distinct scent of the rose is one of my favorites. The rose flower is also one of my all time favorites to receive. As well, Guns n' Roses is one of my favorite bands. OK, you get the point. Luckily, this scent is no longer reserved for Glam-Ma (no offense) and there are fresh, modern rose scented beauty products available today. Known for its tonic and deodorant properties, it also has skin soothing, and aroma therapeutic, i.e relaxing, benefits. Rose extract also aids in exfoliating. Here are some of my favorites:

Jaqua Rose in Bloom Body Beauty Butter, $24. Super rich for moisturizing winter skin, this wonderful garden rose beauty butter contains Rose Hip Extract, Cocoa Butter and Mango Butter.

Avon Floral Prints Sheer Rose Shower Gel, on sale for $4.99. There is nothing like being showered with roses.

Stella McCartney Stella, $60.50 for 1.6 oz Eau de Parfum Spray. Stelllllaaaaaa! This fragrance is based on the contrast between the freshness and softness of the rose, and the dark sensuality of amber; Stella is a sophisticated scent focused on an intense sense of femininity.

Could a candle be any more lovely?

Kiehl's Rosewater Facial Freshener-Toner, $14 for 18 fl. oz bottle. A gentle soothing freshener formulated with Rose Extract to be used after cleansing or any time as a mild astringent and facial stimulant for normal to oily skin types. I just adore the rose petals floating around in the bottle.

Smith's Rosebud Salve, $6. You know you love it.
